The real rarity is in that the car isn't completely rusted out. One hell of a nice car being restored there, the 440 is a great, smooth and torquey engine. Mated to a manual it'll be a blast to drive.

I'm in awe. I love that rare model. I owned a 70 convertible road rm27 383 4-speed car( 1 of 157 ) that was upgraded to 440+6, air grabber & dana 60. I sold it in 1993 in montreal's auto hebdo for 7 grand running & driving. It makes me sick how overpriced my favorite cars are now.

That block is clean. My mother had a '67 Belvedere II station wagon with a 318. After 20 years of short trips, the man in the engine wanted out. I pulled the valve covers and they were packed with a weird fibrous gunk. Ditto the oil pan, which had a little clear area around the pickup. When I scraped the gunk off, the steel was rusted. There was rust on the main caps as well!

In the very early 1960s at a small service station in Texas where I was visiting a friend , a man stopped to fill up with gas . He was driving a new Dodge with a 440 engine , 4 spd. He said it wasn’t real quick but it was real fast and then he was gone.

I read a story some years ago of a guy that found a '70 Coronet R/T convertible setting in a junk yard in Canada that was an original Hemi car. He bought it for what seemed a ridiculous $1500. It didn't have an engine or trans. He restored it. I remember the car because it had power windows and disc brakes. Stuff that was rare on any Coronet back in '70 much less a Hemi car. I think that was in the early '90's but I'm not positive. It would be worth way more now.

I own a '57 Imperial and it has factory electric power windows that are so powerful and fast that Chrysler gave them a rubber joint connecting them to the regulator so they wouldn't kill or maim anyone!! I said electric because I know GM was using oil pressure as earl y as '50 or '51 to power hydraulic cylinders to power windows and seats. Other manufacturers may have been as well but Cadillac and Buick are the only ones I have personal experience with.

AWESOME. I'm glad this old girl is being saved. Too often people without the means intend to restore a valuable car but never have enough money. A guy on my road swears he has a super bee convertible that had a factory Hemi engine. I saw a coronet body convertible on the property but can't be certain if it is coronet or super bee. he says the hemi is in a garage wrapped plastic. The car has a 440 in it. I tried three times to convince him to advertise it but he just will not let it go.

My first car was a 71 Coronet Superbee with a 440. I believe I was 16 years old in 1976. I wish I still owned it. If I did it would be in mint condition today that's for sure. My was jet black and it was a hard top, Standard of course. It was a four barrel and what I recall the most it that it drank fuel like you would not believe, that was why I got rid of it, but she sure was fun, I know that much!! for the year that I owned her.

Hello Nick sorry I don't No your last name. First of all I finally found out who Nick' garage is I live in Florida and I have seen your stickers on Old Mopar. I am a master technician for Chrysler, Dodge For the last 35 years. Relax they run fine I happen to overhauling transmission the first time I seen your sticker and the second time. All Canadian cars tell me buddy is that where Mopar's go to Die And you brought them back. lol I have worked on just about every engine that the US makes Mopar is my second favorite. lol happened to be A FORD man. Yes I have a tag of the front of my hot rod that says Mopar eater. lol 830 In the quarter Small block well Cleveland also have a Windsor that's just bad to the bone I put the Cleveland in because it was a flat ass HEMI killer. You are doing a great job. I decided to sending you this note to say I respect you for bringing my dodge and Chrysler Back to live. Well done. Be well my friend.

dwight fry - mmm I don’t know about that! I’ve owned several. The 6 pak rods HAD to have a dedicated damper with an offset weight. I happen to have a set of rods and a damper in my parts room. Often special duty 440’s came with the 6 pak rods and damper just to use up parts. This is particularly true of post ‘72 motor home engines. Yes. I have one of them too.

I'd like to say something about "rare cars". Once upon a time you could order a car from the dealer. If you knew the codes you could pretty much get whatever you wanted. 50 years later it's a classic, a unicorn, a very special car. Well that may be amongst the car purists but in real life it's different. My fathers car is a great example. He liked big Chrysler's, 1957 thru 1973. 300s, Imperials, Newports. The "BIG" cars. In 1976 my Dad got himself a 1973 imperial. But he wanted it to be a bit different. A 2 door Imperial, with 300 hood and trunk lid. It was a difficult job, but I ended up building 3 of them. Black and gold, gold anodized Center line wheels and 440/472 V8s and reworked suspension. This could be considered a classic. My wife 1962 Thunderbird, a classic, but with a 427 sideoiler engine and a modern C6 heavy duty tranny. Re worked suspension, I would not allow my wife to drive a car that was lacking. But it is a classic. You can tell were I'm going with this If you like it drive it I for one wouldn't judge. The way of the muscle car will never die. T.
