Is Paris still the world's luxury capital? Competition with London, Dubai and New York is fierce. Leading jewellers, Michelin-starred chefs and couture stars are all vying to attract the world's richest customers. But how do they do it? Ophélie Meunier reveals the secret world of Parisian excellence. Mathieu Pacaud is one of the capital's most Michelin-starred young chefs. He has welcomed Barack Obama and many other celebrities to his table. Boucheron, one of Place Vendôme's leading jewelers, uses precious stones worth up to 3 million euros to create the world's finest jewels.

I would hope that the U.S. Ambassador & her key American staff would highlight the excessive stress & extraordinarily LONG HOURS the Head Butler & their staff are REQUIRED to work for their Events! Yes, these Events are important, but everyone there should also understand that the ordinary people, here in the U.S. & in France, also want & need their time off to rest, sleep, & spent time with their families/friends & do the things they enjoy doing with their free time! I don’t think it’s their passion to be overworked & sleep deprived on a regular basis!!!! They are been taken advantage of - and just because the Ambassador says she appreciates the staff, that doesn’t mean their Labor Laws should be ignored!!!

You completely overlooked the fact that our U.S. tax dollars are funding their war and paying the salaries of tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of their workers, along with paying to keep shop owner’s shops open so they can make money. WE are supporting this while this woman is off shopping and paying over $31k for 3 dresses. We barely make enough money to get by yet we’re funding this and other wars. It’s the oligarchs that are getting richer off of us. Who knows where our money is really going and to whom. This is disgusting.

I guess that documentary was made when Natalia still had a proper country to go back to. Well, money definitely doesn’t buy you happiness but I’m sure, with the amount of money she obviously had, she can choose where to live. I suppose her plastic surgery empire in Ukraine isn’t doing so well these days, though. I wonder if she’s offering her services to disfigured soldiers for free now, although I doubt it.

A number of years ago I was lucky enough to see an art exhibition called "Artistic Luxury" and featuring the works of Tiffany, Lalique, and Faberge. Most works were shown at the Paris Exhibition of 1900 and the focus was on the idea that, to the three firms, the design and artistry were more important than the materials and carat count. While not calling out direct comparison, there were examples of comparable works from other jewelers. For example, there were two examples of cigarette cases in the Louis XVI style. The Cartier version, while probably of higher carat weight, was not even in the same league as the Faberge. Some of the jewels and clothes were wearing the person, rather than the other way around.

@@lilylittlemonster5 Let's not be too quick to bash rich people. Although low to middle income class are the biggest consumers, the rich are the biggest producers of goods and jobs, as well as services. Let's take Bernard Arnold as one example. Now the richest man in the world, his contributions to the French economy are very significant. In France, one job created directly by LVMH generates four for the French economy1. This is equivalent to around 160,000 people working indirectly for the Group1. THAT is significant! Infrastructure: LVMH has more than 500 stores and 110 manufacturing facilities and workshops located across France1. The group opens several manufacturing facilities each year in France, notably for Louis Vuitton. Arnold, along with Bettencourt (richest woman in the world) promote France around the world as being leaders of fashion and luxury goods that one cannot put a price on, as it brings back tens of billions or euros back into the economy. Just imagine this.... what if all the billionaires of France moved out of the country and relocated their headquarters outside of France. How would that make your standard of living better? It would be a disaster for the country with higher unemployment, loss of CAC40 value, higher inflation, and a dramatic increase in poverty. Start looking at things positively -- it's what Americans do and they're very successful. Look at the glass half full and be thankful the French economy produces some of the richest people in the world... because THEY create jobs.

To put a live animal into a pot of boiling water, without humanely killing it prior (if there's such a thing) can be no more than inconsiderate self righteous and cruel (has this chef is seen here doing here). And before all those likewise beings as the chef get on a defensive 'rant'. Ask yourself - if you would be prepared to be dropped into a boiling vessel of water still alive. No I thought not. Has for telling the world what jewellery you own and where you are going to be and at what time etc, is that 'stupidity'...or just shear vulgarity in flaunting your richness....probably the both! There is a wide divide between 'Rich' and 'The Wealthy'. And those 'wealthy and clever' enough unlike most, chose to keep a very low profile. An example of this would be someone like Amancio Ortega, net worth - 99.5 'Billion', and in his 87 years very rarely photographed and never does interviews or talks to the media. Now that is humble, intelligence...and 'real wealth'. Unlike many, he knows when someone is blowing Hot Air up his Arse!

For a restaurateur who is 7MM Euros in debt, the Divellec owner has to get his act together: deciding on table settings the day before opening his new restaurant is laughable. He shows up a day before the opening and behaves like an angry teenager, complaining about things that "should have been done four months ago." So where was he four months ago? Laissez-faire project management landed the restaurant in a real mess. On opening night, we find out that he didn't even have a training & test run with the kitchen staff - which leads some of his guest to say they think the restaurant is "still getting the hang of it." In terms of attitude, this is not Michelin star territory, so he should count himself as fortunate to have gotten the one star which Divellec was awarded.

1.The video is from 2017, 5 yrs before ruzzian full-scale invasion of Ukraine. 2. This is not Ukraine's war, but could very easily become everyone's war is ruzzia is not stopped. 3. Your tax dollars are not going to Natalia's or any other Ukrainian's pockets. 4. Natalia is in no way representative of an average Ukrainian citizen currently fighting for their lives, the future of their children and that of a civilized world. Thank you.

Yup yup yup yup... I can't believe how they can smile, after spending that kind of money. When Ukraine is at war, and the united States is supporting the war. Those women buying 30,000.could give that kind of money to help out all many refgues that had to flee, Ukraine. Also, 30,000.could feed ALOT of other's who desperately need help. Amen. The world makes me depreessed and sick

Seeing the Ukrainian mother and daughter buying three dresses and having read about Mrs Verlesky shopping in Paris I am personally offended because hard workers in the USA who have little to no safety net and mothers of newborns go back to work after 6/8 weeks of giving birth makes me very angry that their tax dollars in the billions are sent to Big Israel=Ukraine!!!!! As to Paris, the people have no memory or intelligence or they would not desire to be the luxury capital considering the guillotine I think it will roll out again..

These are all NOUVEAU RICHE, they don’t come from wealth. People of old money are much more conservative in appearance they don’t flaunt it, most of them who are true to heritage have impeccable taste. But I hope you’re all aware that commercial luxury brands are actually sustained by the upper middle class, and not the 1%. These big house haute couture brands that present these over the top fashion shows only have a small select amount of customers who buy. The shows are just marketing for them, they actually rely on us middle class people to dream and strive to want to be apart of this fantasy world they are presenting. So we’ll buy their perfume, cosmetics, accessories, or save up for their ready-to-wear and treat ourselves to the odd bag and pair of shoes.. These items that we upper middle class individuals buy are what sustain these high end luxury fashion brands.

In every major city, affluent-looking tourists are marked for robbery by well-organized theft rings, or solo operators. Still, nouveau riche Chinese are alarmed that they're the target of robberies, when it's a known fact that they've come to Europe on a high-end shopping expedition. Just ask the Swiss, which nationality descends on their cities by the bus load and snaps up their expensive watches and chocolates? 🤔
