It's easy to make a submarine to fly in space as long as there are thrusters because submarines are by virtue airtight, just also being able to resist much much stronger water pressure. Space ships (if they exist) however cannot be said the same.

@@周生生-f1f While a submarine is airtight, there are a lot of other problems that a spaceship has to deal with that a submarine can't handle, like dealing with waste heat. A Submarine can just use the water for cooling, a spaceship on the other hand needs to get rid of all waste heat through radiation, which is a much less efficient process. A nuclear submarine in space would be airtight, sure, but it would also brew up the crew since it doesn't have any way to get rid of enough heat without cold water to use.

Low output reactors like most space stations and since the Danaan doesn't use particularly energy-heavy stuff, and probably filling the now-useless buoyant with liquid CO2/N2/gases heat shouldn't be a massive issue at least in the Tuatha de Danaan. Anyway the idea of having such large battleships fly is pretty much not quite realistic from the start. At least submarines can handle more pressure and leaks better for its much stronger hull.

Tessa is a Whispered. So is Kaname. So, they have lots of technology knowledge that others don't have. Changing the submarine to fly in space must be easy for them.

This game also stars the Yamato. Compared to that, it's much easier to refit a submarine into a spaceship. The hull is already pressurized and durable; the only issue is, seagoing vessels are heavy as hell. Then again, the Yamato had the wave motion engine and thus enough thrust for atmospheric flight, while the Tuatha had to touch down into water for planetary missions. Also, redesigning torpedoes and air-breathing cruise missiles for space involves completely replacing everything except warheads.

Technically speaking, I think that with modern technology would be quite possible make a submarine aircraft carrier. 🤔 The most problematic thing is make the landing deck and the relative cover for it in order to transform it into an hangar when submerged. Pressure in lower waters would be probably too much to handle and every minor weak point would probably cause a fail into the same hull of the ship. It's also possible produce that kind of propulsion if needed, that's not a problem. I doubt there will be space to fit vertical launchers for rockets and missiles. But probably, enlarging the hull it will be possible ti fit between 6 to 9 launchers for medium range rockets. Definitely not anything like ICBMs like shown in the anime. Impossible to launch a mech into a rocket in that way. All those fins also will probably enlarge the trace left by the submarine, basically, it will increase the noise so, I don't think it's a good idea. That aerodynamic shape instead could actually be a good idea. But the hull itself must be covered by rugged plates of materials like rubber. It will produce that same effect given by the sharks skin. It reduces the noise and the hydrodynamic resistance. It basically makes the sub more stealthy and fast, even if not too much since we talking of something of the dimensions of a real aircraft carrier. A nuclear reactor would be necessary to move that thing. In other case, the amount of space to take in order to fit the tanks of fuel for diesel engines will be too big, if you want to give it a sufficient range of operation. Not exactly an easy project but still inside the range of our possibilities. 🤔 Probably. After all, the mix between a carrier and a sub will give to carriers and subs that advantages that lacks to the main categories. An hybrid ship. More than that, one of the main issues will be balancing its chambers for water. If not well balanced, the sub carrier will never sail straight. 😑 It rill continuously roll from a side to another. Even submerged. That's starts to be too complex.

Submarines with hydroplane hangars have been a thing in WWII. This concept is very much technically feasible, just impractical; larger submersible vessels with full air wings are even more so. That being said, as the line between aircraft and missile becomes increasingly blurred thanks to drones, we're likely to see some fairly complicated UAVs capable of performing missions autonomously being launched off submarines, maybe even from standard missile tubes.

I've studied things like this for a period and by being a mechanical and chemical technician that is also interested in naval engineering, that's something that I've always tried to comprehend better. Maybe I should ask to some of our national naval engineers to gain some more in deep knowledge... But I feel that I can figure out something. Never challenge an italian in this kind of things, we will always surprise the world. 🤣🤣🤣

Didn't know Tuatha de Danaan and Venoms can operate in space. Would have loved it if they made Tessa the strategic leader of the team in stead of Sumeragi since we'll be able to see more of her that way. Don't care about Sumeragi in the slightest.
