Hey ToMo, I was at Berklee with you:) I remember you from back then I graduated 90. I was a performance Major. I bet you remember Mark French and many others. So cool that you became a teacher there! It is a refreshing reminder about ear training listening to your video. Thank you for posting. I always liked the way you played and I’m grateful to still be able to keep in touch. Keep on rocking!

As a musician I I've ran into people that had different methods of ear training. One person could give the name of the note on the piano without a key reference while another needed needed a key reference to give you the distance in numbers and didn't need it in A440. I learned through association. Example: 5-3mj-1-3-5-1 As the beginning of the Star spangled banner and the basics of a maj. Cord. But had to use numbers because I couldn't associate letters with the distance. I need to hear the distance off the key note.

I like that right after you say push to the next level it was right back to some funk chords!. Those heavy gauge strings sound great on that guitar. I found that I only make progress on ear training exercises if I do them daily for short periods (5-15 minutes). Doing it a few times per day helped a bit too but longer sessions were not that helpful.

Lol, I'm not the only one who skips important steps, lol. Good idea while im learning to sight read even when i just memorizing I'll sing it outloud too. My voice is like nails on a chalk board. I find when I'm working out a song in my head singing the song helps me find the chords but it's so hard to get above a whisper.

Thank you Tomo. This is actually 2 very dense lessons wrapped up in one. The ear training lesson is super, thank you. This is something that I need to work on, but your explanation and method makes perfect sense. The auditory rhythm training is, for me, more challenging to track. I followed your process, but this section demands for me to break the lesson down into smaller parts… and it feels a bit rushed. For me it would me more helpful to vocalize each rhythmic exercise by counting out the phrases. Is there a lesson of yours that focuses just on the rhythmic training you introduce in this ear training lesson. Thank you, much respect🌹
