That's exactly what I thought. I am so jealous and broke lol. That's why I was here, to find out how to hand carve a bed frame so I don't have to buy one for $180-$200.

Also, I was just thinking, the people that own these tools can afford to quickly purchase a $200 bed frame from IKEA or Wayfair. Which I cannot. I thought maybe to get some wood from the forest, wash it and seal it with healthy (and non toxic) wood sealant, paint it with healthy wood stain from Ecos brand maybe? Idk... and then find a way to get a hand sander (wearing gloves, mask, and eye goggles) and just carve and sand the wood into a twin bed by hand without power tools. And instead of making the cuts with power tools, sand the grooves so the wood slides in. Maybe I'll have to use my Dad's circle saw or drill to fasten the joints with screws nails or whatever. I don't want to buy the frame from IKEA that is wooden that everyone says falls apart. I also want the wood to last, be sturdy and have that polished European antique ancient old style look to it.

You begin your video with professional level carpentry tools and precise instructions. That's excellent for guys in the industry but hardly diy.

"Diy" pertains mostly to skill(or lack thereof), not equipment. As far as "professional level carpentry tools" go, most of those tools are made to make things faster and easier. That means you can achieve the same goals with less. It just takes a little more work! For example; Instead of planer to smooth wood, you can use a sander. No sander? Well, you can sand by hand. They also sell sanded planks at most big box stores. Instead of the tablesaw, you can use a circular saw, handsaw, jigsaw, or hell, even a sawzall if you're brave enough. Lol Pocket holes aren't exactly necessary. They just hide the screws/bolts and look nicer. So,you shouldn't need a fancy "jig". BUT if you really wanted to, pocket hole jigs are fairly simple to make yourself. Tdlr; Improvising things from less makes diy more fun! 😁
@PBunyanOx
@PBunyanOx Жыл бұрын
@@leezy7787 equipment has everything to do with presentation. Diy normies are looking for easy instructions and a simple list of tools and materials. Using professional tools and industry jargon might cause one to shy away from a project. Improvising can be extremely frustrating to some. TL;dr This video is mislabeled bc it's not "super simple".

@@PBunyanOx As a beginner in Woodworking. You are totally correct. I'm somewhat familiar with these tools and even less with the terminology. Thanks Tony! No plans for a headboard. This was actually for my brother, and he wanted the simplest/cheapest frame I could come up with. That being said, a headboard would attach the exact same way, so if you just made the legs and rail taller in the back, you could turn it into a headboard.

Hi, thanks for the video. I was just thinking... Because of the design of joints where the inner corner of the leg reaches some 1 1/2 inches inward, there has to be significant gap between the side frame and the mattress revealing the grid boards and really taking away from otherwise really nice and clean looking bed frame

Yes, there are some big tools in this video, but all of this is attainable with a few basic tools such as a skillsaw, some homemade guides, a little creativity, and some thought. Have done it myself with a homemade table saw, skillsaw, and a router ... because I had a router and wanted to use it. The long-term plan would be to get some better tools and make better stuff of course. 👍

@GunflintDesigns 😅🤣 Isn't that one of the best things about wood working though? Just figuring out how to do stuff, make jigs, problem solve, and have a go. Use some scrap and try something out, try another approach if it doesn't work, work the problem, and a solution will present itself. Other than sometimes having a diagram or plan, there is no absolute right way to do something....well, maybe a few things like safety and keeping your digits, but anything else. Have a crack at it, learn as you go.
