My two favorite breeds of dog are now the Doberman Pinscher and the Golden Retriever, based on the fact that the two greatest dogs I've had were a female Dobie and my current best friend, a male Golden. Yes, they are very different breeds in some ways. Dobermans are very protective; Goldens are everybody's friend. Dobermans love hot weather; Goldens love cold weather. But the similarities are that they are both exceptionally smart, easily trained, and incredibly loyal dogs. Both great breeds.

I have to say that out of all of the dobermans that I have seen, champions or not, these two are by far the best looking. They have a good proportions, between upper and lower body. Overall they have a well balanced structure. Whoever bred them good job.

@mrDoveRock they were not mutilated, they were improved, much like people go to the dentist and get their teeth fixed. These are improvements on Dobermans that help them. Also this procedure is done when they are very young and by a professional veterinarian that takes good care of them. They did not cry at all, and were playing right after the procedure.

They are both adorable. It seems the Red Dobies do grow a bit larger than the Black/Tan. I hae aBlack Tan Dobergirl who weighs in at about 64 lbs. The Vet said she is the perfect weight for her size.

I have a red rust Doberman also they're beautiful anyway the red ones always seem to be a little bit bigger than the black ones -4 years old he's about 95 lb he's a great dog very happy with him

The advantage of cropped ears is the decreased frequecy of yeast-type ear infections. The only ones I've ever had that issue with were my two with natural ears, the other four... no worries. And before anyone gets their panties in a twist, all six were rescue dogs, that I did nothing to, other than feed, shelter and love as family members.

@Blitzbok Actually removing the dewclaws prevents a common and much more painful injury when the nail catches on everything and rips away from the leg. I have had rescued dobes in my care who have had tail injuries to the point of needing them removed. Not so sure if there is any advantage to the ear dock other than cosmetic (my dobe has them docked)

They are super easy to tame and very affectionate. Try buying from a good breeder, you will have less problems in the end. Dobermans sometimes get a bad rap, saying they go crazy and are aggressive dogs. Not true at all, it's all from the movies. Dobermans are extremely affectionate, and super smart dogs, they were bred to be this way.

The tail I've heard Dobermans are notorious for developing joint disorders in the hips, and as for the ears it helps prevent major infections.

Semantic games. I've had dobermans the past 13 years, and I've done my research. When I said "I think," I was indicating the evidence shows there may have been an individual doberman named Warlock, not that I was guessing at random. The name "Warlock" is added onto every backyard breeder who aims for huge doberman size because the name sounds impressive, and there is evidence of nothing else. So when you have evidence otherwise, I can be "certain" you aren't offering an empty dismissal.

@LOKISlog7 Absolutely, Dobies will go "toe to toe" with any other dog, even if the other dog is much bigger and meaner. And for that reason cropping and docking lessens the dog getting too tore up in a fight. Many breeders even dock the thumbs, as they can break when a dog gets into a fight weather with another dog or an intruder. People who are against this, would be like people who have a problem with removing wisdom teeth. Vets dont just crop and dock without anesthesia.

I'd have to check with the spine injury one, but I have consulted with a few vets about ear cropping, and every one of them has said that the practice of ear cropping is medically unnecessary.

@Sundogjeep No one specifically bred for floppy ears, it just began to show up as people started selective breeding with the wolf. This was also noticed in the domestication of the Silver Fox in Russia. Thank you for waiting, sorry it took a while. I have a life you know :)

they were actually bred to be guard dogs. their main purpose was to protect tax collectors. no joke. they were originally bred to be mean dogs with a scissor like bite, but still look elegant. however NOW they are bred to be nicer and affectionate. so just know what kind of doberman your getting.
