In terms of heat, It stays relatively cool. I'd say it heats up less then the regular Slim. But not significantly less.

iAmCrunchy1 Make sure it's on a solid surface. Make sure there is good airflow in the room. If you want to make it extra cool, get a small fan (table fan or whatever), put it on low and have it blowing on the PS3. It'll definitely keep it cool.

I know what Audacity is buddy. I know what I'm doing here. PS3's are essentially making the same noise as background noise to begin with. Isolating background noise to highlight background noise is just a pain. And as I clearly said in the video, this was not a high end comparison. You only need to get a general idea of the sound, and this video does that.

super slim consumes less power and the fat ps3 can read ps1 and ps2 game (all ps3 can read ps1 games tho) so id say the slim is not the best but his design is the best

Here's the thing, the 'sound' differs between models. I have an original 2009 Slim PS3 120 GB and it has a high-pitched whine. I have opened the case to clean it and even without the cover on the system, it has this whine. It isn't as noticeable at lower fan levels, like within the first 10-15 minutes of turning it on, but after that, it's there and stays until you power it off. Picked up a 12 GB PS3 Super Slim after seeing on in the local pawn shop being used as a Blu-ray player. It had likely been running discs all day and it was less than an hour until closing. It was so quiet that I had to lean over to put my ear to the back of it just to check if it was playing the disc, and it was! I was sold. I haven't had it long, but after watching it for an hour and half, it was running the fans, moving the air, but it didn't have a high-pitched, annoying whine. The noise didn't bother me at all because I didn't notice it. My unit sits inside an entertainment cabinet and I had tried sealing the cabinet and I even put sound-deadening panels in the cabinet, but my old PS3 Slim could always be heard. Sure, I like the overall design and slot-loading drive of the Slim, but I'm much happier with the Super Slim. I have an extra notebook drive laying around, so I am going to purchase the mounting bracket for $6 and have a 500 GB version for a great price.

Really old comment, but you had the common "problem" with any electronic item that has a power supply ... which is coil whine. It's a normal thing, if I recall properly, that cannot be fixed without a PSU replacement.

I've been playing the super slim for two days, it only makes some noise when the disc starts up, after about a minute, while playing the game, I've noticed it is the quietest out of the previous three. it only appears to be loud for a minute, you hear the disc spin, after that it's smooth gaming with little to no sound coming from the system. I also like the top loader, gives it an oldschool feel like the original ps1.

There is of course also the issue of fan sizes. The lower the diameter, the faster they need to spin, making them give off a higher-pitched noise.

Jeeze. I forgot how loud the old launch day models were. Mine doubled as a secondary space heater in winter while I was gaming/watching Netflix before it crapped out. The new super slim (just got mine!) is definitely louder than the slim, but unless you're sitting right next to it, I doubt you'll notice :-) Anyway, great comparison video. I never owned a slim so I didn't know what I was missing.

Not to mention gaming pcs have noise coming from the HDD & DVD drive too. The noise produced from a DVD drive installing a game can be very loud at times, coupled with the sound from the nHDD writing onto the disk. The fat 360 is also very loud too, but it needs to to keep it well ventilated.

my ps3 slim used to run quite how, even after changing thermal paste and cleaning dust off. But you want, you can dril many holes at the bottom of the case(it helped the most in my case, dropping temperatures around 15c) andif you dont mind looks can drill big hole just over the fan too. my ps3 runs around 70c CPU and 65 RXS (i have yet to do IHS thing)

Perfectly normal,the disk doesn't always need to spinning. I don't know if you've ever tried this; but have you ever taken a game out of your PS1 while it's playing? You can still play the game limitedly because the game has already loaded the data for that particular segment. This is what your Super Slim is effectively doing, so don't worry :)

I'd hate to be that guy but if your playing a game you won't notice the noise at all. But I've had my PS3 Super Slim for about a year and it's still very quiet. It heats up a bit more then when I got it but it's hardly noticeable. The PS3 Super Slim isn't really that bad like many reviewers say, you just gotta treat your consoles right and keep the dust and junk from building up.

Nearly all low end cameras have crappy on board mics that pick up background noise. I was going to do this video with my Yeti mic but it barely picked up the noises of the PS3's. So I just used my camera' mic.

I got the oldest PS3 version that got released march 2007 (In EU) and it makes ALOT more sound when streaming films over PS3 MediaServer... people even notices it here haha. You even hear it with 7.2 sound going on... however I love its design! It kills!

I own the 320gb slim model, upgraded it from the original 60gb fat. Was thinking about upgrading again to the new super slim because its smaller and has a 500gb HDD as standard but this video has shown to me that the new slim looks cheap/nasty and its louder than my current slim! I have a regular PS3 Slim. Lately when it loads some games like Mass Effect (1,2, or 3), Borderlands 2 and some others I can't remember the PS3 will get pretty loud for a little bit. I think it might have something to do with the disc loading up or maybe the fan. Next time it does it I will have to record it so you can actually hear it.

Mine still works. Problem is in thermal compound, which is pure shit and sony official firmware, which lets cpu & gpu run 80-90 celsius wihtout fan kicking in. Solution = thermal paste mx4 & CFW with sman plugin. Mine runs silent. Fan ~30% CPU 70celsius RSX 70celsius in GTAV for 2 hours non stop gaming.

As of right now, the PS4 will not play physical, or digital PS3 games. Although Sony has mentioned they could make it possible via streaming. If they will actually make that happen, remains to be seen.

i got tha same fat that he does and itz quieter than yours dude ^^ cuz i modded it heavly if u are going to be able to do that u will have lotz of fun, fucking awesome design, ps2 gaming, 4 usb portz if u do modmenu lobbys and need headset, controllercable, a usb stick and so on, so for me fuck the slim ;) but if u like it itz okay i still also like tha slim more than the super slim ;)

The 'Slim' has the quietest fan but the noisiest laser when loading, that always bugged me. Just reapply thermal paste on your fat PS3's to keep its fan quiet. Worked nicely for me.

All I can say is, I have a super slim, my brother has a slim, his fan is forsure louder, seen as you can hear his fan and the super slim seems to have the quietest fan ive yet to hear in any console or computer, that being said, they did do a wonky job moving the disc tray and when you're playing a game that does more loading( don't worry if your playing a smaller game) you will hear the disc being read by the scanner, not to big a deal, especially seen as the disc is more accesible now.

well on the ps3 you don't have to pay to play online and uhh there is a program on the ps3 called play station plus which is a member ship that you can pay like $50 or more depending on how long you wanna keep the membership and on that program you can get free games.

I think people are a bit too obsessed. I recently got the super slip for a really good price and I'm happy with it. I really appreciate it being smaller because a would have problems fitting any of the older models. Indeed you can hear the disk spinning a little but it's no worse than the ps2 slim and it's really not a bother when you have it across the room.

I have to disagree with you because my PS3 slim is pretty loud when I play certain games it's already been confirmed by Sony the super slim model is a lot quieter because every time I play my games on my brother's super slim I don't hear anything but when I first got my PS3 slim it didn't make any loud fan noise can anyone explain to me why?

Wow the Slim looks like the best version. Screw the super slim. I guess the only good thing about the super slim, besides the size, is that you don't have to worry about a disc getting jammed or it not ejecting right (same thing, i know). I'm still sticking with my Slim version 1.

The first one sounds like a hair dryer on startup, then the hi setting when it's been playing for a while. I've been researching reviews on the pros and cons of each and I was set to buy the Super Slim because of less mechanical failure and it being quieter, plus the 500GB hard drive, but even before the end of this video I realized the second one is quieter.

I had the 80GB Fat from 2007 and after the update that made them overheat people would always ask WTF was going on over the headset from it being so loud, it would spam the mic with the jet sound.

Like the other people have said. 2nd gen ps3 may be quitest, but that sucker gets hot. Needed better cooling fan. Even after taking mine apart and cleaning dust out it still gets hot. I always keep it on a high speed laptop cooling plate cause the bottom gets really hot too. May make more noise, but it should help keep it from burning up.

my one and a half year super slim ps3 just started making a really loud noise coming from its fan, so i just vacuum cleaned it (sucking the dust, not blowing) and it's great again. I can hear my tinnitus again when playing.

I just hate the super slim having a top tray but glad Im still keeping my regular PS3 slim to play my back up games its very quiet compare to the rest
