With regards the the not-Aether Eruption discussion, it's possible that Ike might have a new move. In both Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, Ike's sword had the special power to shoot shockwaves from a distance, so that's one possibility.

I doubt Roy would make it in, however it;d be interesting to add in another female character, I doubt Lucina being in seeing as she's not introduced from the beginning however she is a key character so her chances aren't completely gone. Female characters would be interesting to add seeing as there are very few notable female characters, Eirika, Micaiah, with staying in the Protagonist criteria. Personally I'm hoping for the Avatar/Tactician seeing as the Tactician himself has appeared in a number of Fire Emblem games, though Awakening is the first he's appeared as a fighter.

It's funny that, on the one hand, I'm kinda happy Ike is back because I ENJOYED playing him in Brawl. But, on the other hand, if this means that Chrom wouldn't make it to the game, I'm surely gonna be a little disappointed with that fact. :( Additionally, I just noticed that Marth has a "blue" cape, Ike has a "red" cape and Chrom has a "white" cape, so they are NOT as similar looking as some people think. xD

I wonder about the possibilities of bringing in Chrom with Lucina as an Ice-climber style team. Maybe have it so they play like one character? Unlikely but I'm just trying to think of how they could make Chrom different as a sword user. Maybe represent awakening with the Avatar character Robin instead?

This actually makes alot of sense now that I think about it. Having Chrom and Lucina fight together would represent the pair up mechanic is Awakening and it would please all fans who wanted Chrom and Lucina. Lucina also learned swordplay by Chrom as shown in the cutscene. It would definitely be an interesting change.

This announcement makes perfect sense if Chrom is playable. Think about it. Sakurai knows his fan base and keeps an eye on us. He knows how we've been behaving over the past few weeks. Looking at a lot of predictions lists, they are all pretty different, but there is one constant. Chrom. All of the lists include Chrom and most of them say Chrom will be replacing Ike. Sakurai probably noticed this and thought, "These people basically know that I'm putting Chrom in the game. But, they're not expecting Ike." Revealing Ike now throws our thoughts about Chrom into question, which turns a reveal we were all expecting into a reveal we're unsure of. If Chrom was revealed before Ike, we would've been like "Finally, Chrom's been revealed." But now, we'd be like "Yes! Chrom IS here!" and drop a bigger hype bomb. Which is what Sakurai wants.

Van Brohenheim How is that an over-assumption? Sakurai does watch over Smash fans. He probably looks at character requests, and then picks a few out at a time and tries to create those character for Smash, sometimes failing probably. How did Sakurai know to put Megaman in? He probably looked at character requests and saw Megaman the most. What about Greninja out of ALL 721 Pokemon? It's because many people wanted Greninja. SO MANY people want Chrom, so he'll probably be in. The thing I LOVE about Sakurai is that he listens to his fans.

I'm almost 100% certain there will be a third Fire Emblem character and since everyone seems to want Chrom it's not unlikely that Sakurai is listening, but of course he won't reveal him without letting us speculate about it for a few weeks and then fire up the hype train when the time has come

It'll be Marth, Ike and Chrom. Marth is fast and weaker, Ike is slow and stronger. Chrom can be middle ground. It would also be the original hero, the most popular hero and the most recent hero which would be really cool.

Marth is Marth and Lucina is Lucina. She can't be a costume for Marth because she is a different person. That's not what alternate skins are for. Though I agree she would be very similar to Marth which is why I don't think she will be playable. If Chrom is also not playable they could appear as a team in an assist trophy.

Personally, i think this supports Robin/Tactician as characters, as (s)he reprecents awakening, gives more variety to fire emblem reps and uses the alternate costume thing for the two genders

The only problem I see with Robin/Tactician is that its kind of a "create a character" type of thing and that niche is filled with Villager. I think it'd be more likely to get an actual character than the My Unit, but we'll see.

And as some people already said, andrew was wrong that Aether wasn't shown off as it was shown off in the screenshot with zero suit samus in the peak of his attack :D The move that wasn't shown off is his Eruption special where he basically charged an attack on the spot he stood, and thrust his sword into the ground, creating a big explosion on the spot.

Ike and Lucario had unique movesets to their "clones" but Lucas' was too similar to Ness, I don't think he'll be back.

Not true, Lucas was not much more similar to Ness than Lucario to Mewtwo. Only his specials were more or less the same, the grabs, normal attacks neutral attacks and smash attacks were quite different. If they tweak the specials like Project M did for example then he could easily become more distinct from Ness

GUYS. Ike being in has no effect on Chrom. Chrom is different than the circumstances between Roy and Brawl and Ike in this game. (AKA Roy was a Clone with one appearance. Ike has 3 (I think. 2 main games and 1 in DLC) appearances overall. it's completely different.) Also, the roster is a LOT bigger. 3 Fire Emblem characters isn't that many. Although I would rather have the Tactician, I still expect chrom.

I think the only reason people thought he wouldn't be back is because of the pattern Nintendo has set for Fire Emblem Characters in the Smash Series where its always Marth (as he is the main character in the very first Fire Emblem Game) and a big/popular/Main character from the most recent Fire Emblem Game, for Melee it was Roy (as his game had released in Japan, and they finally decided to release the games to America), for Brawl it was Ike, as he had a game on the Gamecube and had one on Wii as well, and for SSB4 many thought they would continue to follow the pattern and replace Ike with someone from Fire Emblem: Awakening, most likely being Crom.

lordofninjas1 That's what I figured was probably the case, but I took Roy's withdrawal as being done because he was a clone, and they didn't have enough roster space for three characters from FE in Brawl due to the series not being popular enough, so instead of keeping Roy, a clone, they opted for Ike with his completely distinguished moveset, along with the reason that Ike was in the most recent game. Given Awakening's success, I thought people would realize the possibility that there could be more room. Oh, well. It's not a big deal anyway.

SashaandStorm I'm not sure Roy is as much of a Clone as you think he is, its been a couple years since I played Melee, but from what I remember Marth and Roys moves were different. and actually as far as I know Ike is only DLC in Fire Emblem: Awakening, not actually part of the main story or main game at all, of course I haven't played it, but I have done research and such and that is what my research has turned up.

lordofninjas1 It's been a long time since I've played Melee as well, but from what I do remember, Roy's moveset is nearly the exact same as Marth's. Could be wrong about that though. And I think you misunderstood what I meant about the pattern of having the new character in the game. Let me start from the beginning. Okay, so with Melee and Brawl, there has been Marth and the most recent main character. However, Fire Emblem has since become more popular, so this could open an extra slot, allowing Ike, a unique character who was a lot of fun in Brawl, to stay and still allowing Chrom to be added, the most recent main character.

IKE confirmation doesn't rule out that Chrom or any character from the New Fire Emblem won't make it into the game. 3 Characters from the FE Series is possible. If anything Lucina would probably make it in because it will satisfy the female count and the fact that its a character representing the new FE game.

I have a theory for Ike's sudden confirmation. The questions to be asked here which I will answer are: Why did they decide to reveal a character all of a sudden and not wait until E3? Why is the character revealed to return specifically Ike and not one of the many other characters still not confirmed yet? Well, here is my theory. So why reveal a character all of a sudden? No one expected for May to have a character reveal, let alone for it to be Ike who people didn't even think was going to come back for it was expected he was going to get the Roy treatment. Only one month so far didn't reveal a character and that was March, every single month other than March ever since E3 2013 had at least one character revealed, the reason why March didn't have someone revealed is because of the Smash Bros. Direct that was coming shortly after early in April, which revealed 5 characters; 1 newcomer, and 3 which behave differently than they did in the previous games. By now it is obvious that there will be a newcomer, or multiple newcomers if Sakurai is feeling generous, revealed in E3, but who? That is where the revealing of Ike comes in. The reason why Ike was suddenly revealed and why it was Ike revealed and not one of the many other veterans that still haven't been confirmed yet and why they didn't just wait until E3 for more character confirmations just like how March had none, who would've most likely had been Yoshi but they waited for the Smash Bros. Direct to reveal him, is because the newcomer revealed in E3, if they do, is going to be from Fire Emblem, specifically Chrom who is the main character of the last installment, Awakening. Lucina also has a good chance to bring another female character to the roster. Roy could also be brought back, but it is highly unlikely, but hey you'll never know, it would be nice for there to be more than just two or three Fire Emblem representatives and also bring back an old fan favorite in full HD glory with a new move set. Anyway, by revealing Ike right now so sudden in time for E3 they are able to do something they can't do if he isn't revealed, make the trailer for the Fire Emblem newcomer. The trailer would most likely contain Marth and, guess who, that's right, Ike in it. Now, they could have just revealed Ike in the trailer as well, just as Charizard who isn't a newcomer was the only veteran who had a trailer, because he was revealed in Greninja's trailer, but then by not doing this with Ike more focus can be put on the actual newcomer(s). So instead of thinking of it negatively by thinking that with Ike's reveal it lowers the chances of another Fire Emblem character being revealed, think of it positively. Ike's reveal is most likely foreshadowing the reveal of a Fire Emblem newcomer in E3, most likely Chrom, plus the Fire Emblem series doesn't have to be limited to only two representatives. Not to mention that the 3DS version has a stage based off of Fire Emblem Awakening, Arena Ferox.

That would give us the standard RtDR team (Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede, and Bandana Waddle Dee), plus his use of a spear would excel him with jabbing attacks and quick thrusts, and I also imagine that his Up-Special would be the propeller-spin atttack he and Spear ability could use on Return to Dream Land.

Wolf is definitely back. He's one of Sakurai's favorite characters and he wanted to include him in Melee, but couldn't due to timecontstraints and he didn't want to make him a clone.

If Wolf really was supposed to be in Melee, but didn't make it because there wasn't enough time to put him in, then he should've been one of the earlier thrown in characters in Brawl, but instead he was one of the last thrown in characters. You can tell because he didn't even play a part in the Subspace Emmisary, he just had a hidden appearance.

I still don't see him coming though. There's a reason why Sonic has returned and it was to promote Sonic Lost World. If Snake returns, it'll make as much little sense as in Brawl. If he returned, it be likely to promote Phantom Pains that's coming for PS4 and Xbox One...but not Wii U? :/ Sakari has stated, there needs to be a REASON for a Third Party to join this time around. That's why Pac-Man is more likely than Snake for many reasons.

I had a thought regarding the avatar from awakening being playable. They said there would be some kind of 3ds to Wii U interactivity right, that wasn't cross platform play? What if for those who own FE awakening, they can unlock a costume that looks like their character. I had this thought when the villager was first announced and those who own new leaf could do the same, sure enough his new costume reveals are all pretty different so I think it might be possible. Also originally thought pokemon trainer could be the same but now I don't know if he'll be back.

In terms of a new Fire Emblem rep, I'd be okay with Chrom as long as he uses a spear instead of sword or something, (though I like the idea of Robin more). Also, in the screen where Ike sends shiek and samus flying, there is no red lightning effect, which leads me to believe that either they were at low percentage when hit or that his smashes have been toned down a little. Or maybe the effect doesn't happen in the 3DS version, I'm not sure.

Marth wears all Blue, Ike wears some Blue but has Red and Yellow to be easier to see, and all pictures I've seen of Crom either have him wearing Black or more truer to his name wearing a Silver/Chrome color, which stands out more from either of them.

Im a little upset about the roster. I feel that new characters are essential to smash bros and I really dont like that we only have 6 newcomers, and the rest are returning brawl characters. Unless they do plan on expanding the roster past brawls size, and on that subject, sakurai said the roster wont be that big. I mean, you can always have a change of heart after all.
