people hated clone B/C a clone took place of a cut clone like roy being cut but wolf being in brawl or wolf being cut & lucina getting in in smash 4 they felt they took the spot of a beloved clone fighter NO ONE hated clones in melee & with EVERYONE back new clones mean just that NEW CHARACTERS so no one cares about clones agian, people only hate clones when characters are cut it has nothing to do with the name ECHO fighters LOL

Wobbling was a bug exclusive to Melee, so that shouldn't have been a concern to begin with, and true chain grabs were eliminated with Smash 4 already, due to being unable to regrab an opponent within a second of them being released, so that too should've been little issue.

D YellowMadness Agreed. I never cared for custom moves. Only characters I thought they worked well for were the Mii Fighters, and even there, a lot of the moves for them don't feel as fleshed out as any of the other characters' normal special attacks.

[Edit: as pointed by the only comment as of now, this isn't the case in sm4sh] A small detail that not a lot of people notice is that the omega form of Final Destination had a static background, thus making it less busy. This way, the normal version of battlefield can have the day-night cycle, while the battlefield version has a static time

This is not true. Omega Final Destination DOES NOT have a static background. I even just doubled check to be sure, but I had the same idea myself. Omega FD should be a static background but it’s not static in Smash 4.

Not to mention, he's more or less got an example of almost everything you can do in smash. Projectile. Reflecting move. Very straightforward Up-B. Meteor Smash. Non-damaging move that pushes people. Side-B that helps add a little extra air time. etc.

Mike Strong Yes, Link still does need a few changes but I feel like he's fine as he is right now. I'm just glad he takes design from BOTW's free movement so Link isn't a slow heavy bottom tier character anymore, people might actually start playing him more.

I think Octolings could be an awesome echo fighter with one simple mechanical change rather than a moveset change similar to Lucina’s removed tipper. Instead of an inked opponent taking more damage, what if an inked opponent took more knockback? This would allow an Octoling to kill at lower percents, but only if they’re able to capitalize on a fully inked opponent before it washes off. You could also do some model swaps for things like the Octobrush instead of the Inkbrush, the Sloshing Machine instead of the Slosher, the Luna Blaster instead of the Blaster, the Dynamo Roller instead of the Splatroller, and the .52 Gal instead of the Splattershot. Weapons that don’t necessarily need new animations, but could go a long way in making the Octoling’s attacks visually distinct from an Inkling’s

To answer the question, I think we will definitely see a few more Echo Fighters. I can totally see both Dark Samus and Shadow becoming playable, as not only have both seemingly been removed as Assist Trophies, but Samus’ alt to represent Dark Samus has been changed drastically. I can even see them pumping out Echo Fighters as quick, low price DLC, just to flesh out the roster even more and really send Sakurai out with a bang.

Mike Strong Sakurai has expressed after Melee, Brawl, AND Wii U that he wished the aforementioned games to be the last in the series, but with this game’s ‘Ultimate’ subtitle, it really does feel to me like this will be the last Smash game produced and directed by Sakurai. But you’re absolutely right; he is an excellent man and game dev. He doesn’t need a huge roster to send him out with a bang, his legacy left by these games cements hin as an absolute legend in gaming history.

I've seen people talking about the Octolings as echo fighters, I wouldn't mind that. I would have loved to see Dark Shadow from F-Zero for Captain Falcon, to allow Ganondorf to change a little bit more than he ended up doing.

Actually, the beam doesn't appears most in Zelda games, unless you're only referring to the 2D games, in which case that's true. The sword beam hasn't appeared in any 3D game besides BOTW, unless you count the skyward strike (Please correct me if I'm wrong).

There is a lot of evidence pointing to Chrom and Shadow being Echo Fighters. In the Character Trailers, the only Fire Emblem Character who Final Smash wasn't shown was Robin. The only Fire Emblem Character with a original moveset who wasn't in the E3 Demo was Robin and Ike no longer have his Chrom Color.

Don’t be so sure, Joshua. Just because Robin’s trailer didn’t show his/her Final Smash and was never in E3 Demo doesn’t mean Chrom was removed from his/her Final Smash. You’re just jumping to conclusions, Sakurai makes his decisions of whether Chrom would be playable or not, so don’t just assume that Chrom would be playable, it’s Sakurai’s job to decide, not yours.

Out of all the changes GameXplain's suggested, getting rid of the FLUDD and replacing it with Cappy is the one I would've liked the most. I hate the FLUDD because it's not a good move. Why use it to push people away when I can hit them with a Smash attack to do that AND deal damage? I feel the same way about Squirtle's Water Gun.

He needs to have different special whit different atributes Fireball= proyectile Cape=reflector/horizontal recuperationto the stage Power punch=vertical recuperation to the stage Fludd=Move that push character/passive atack (doesnt do damage) Cappy would be just a projectile,like link's boomerang. And no,it wouldn't be a possecion ability because a possesion attack in a game like smash is not fair/good ability

Mike Strong Basically in order for them to dub the show in time, they have to receive the materials from Japan at least a week in advance. Funimation was officially contracted to do this for the first 6 episodes of the series. After that, if they get the materials from Japan early enough, it's just because they happened to be ready. This lasted through the 11th episode, but unfortunately, Japan couldn't continue to send over the needed materials early enough, so in order to create a 2-week time delay, the rest of the season was postponed 2 weeks. Don't misunderstand my 'unfortunately', though, I'm super grateful to Funimation and everyone that the same-day SimulDub even lasted 11 weeks at all, it's just that it's really disappointing, but it's no one's fault. I really feel bad for all those non-manga readers, though (not me), who don't want to watch subbed because they're at serious risk of being spoiled. It is what it is, though. And also, you should definitely watch this show (dub ofc). It's honestly one of the best anime out there!!!

I'm always against people saying echo fitters should have just been skims, but the octoling, really should just be two skins They're literally exactly the same, they use the same weapons, and that's easier than changing some stats unnecessarily, and could make them a launch thing

@Saya Note That's not nearly a big enough difference to be worth completely rebalancing a character for & it would mean people would have a reason to pick one over the other even though, with such similar characters, it's more fun to pick the one you like more without potentially being handicapped as a result.

Recently I've been playing through subspace on brawl and i forgot how amazing it was. With this said, if they never put another story mode back in the series than at least make some of the enemies assist trophies. And as a tribute to subspace, make Primid a playable fighter. Standard special is a charged shot from the gunner primid's gun. Side special can be the boomerang from the boomerang primid. Up special could be he could hang on to that little enemy from subspace that has a bucket he drops stuff out to damage you. With the propeller on his head (sorry forgot the name). Down special could be a counter in which he takes the hit as metal primid and punches back then becomes normal agains. Final smash, a cutscene with fighters he caught then a huge punch as giant primid. Aerial attack and smash attacks could be his green beam sword. One taunt could be the animation that fire primid does when not fighting, he rubs his belly like he's hungry. Tell me what you guys think!

On the topic of the Black Hole item potentially being from Kid Icarus. In Smash 4, the Drill item, which has the same design and functionality of the Drill in Uprising, doesn't have any mention of Uprising in its trophy description and doesn't carry the Kid Icarus logo, which I've always found quite odd.

I hope Young Link's final smash is Fierce Deity Link, I want some Majora's Mask representation in his moveset. Also wish Wild Link's side B would be riding a horse like Wario on his Bike vs Boomerang. Edit: Echo fighter ideas; Impa for Shiek Funky for DK (surf board spin as his up B) with Namco involved, get Agumon to be a small Bowser echo fighter lol (His Final Smash could even be mega evolving into a huge war greymon a la giga bowser.)

Mario has only been the same since Brawl. He is extremely different in Melee, 64 and Brawl respectively. Smash 4 took Brawls design, and Ultimate is taking that design as well.

Kwagz In smash 64, his forward air, back air, tilts and down b was different, plus in 64 you didn't even have side B's. In Melee, he got his dunk forward air, his kick back air, his cape and different tilts. In Brawl, he has a different Back air, down air, and down B. They've kept the brawl style for 4 and Ultimate, but he was significantly buffed in 4, and in ultimate he looks decent.

I hate it when people say Rex can be an echo fighter. Like you clearly didn't play the game to come up with that and that's fine but it's honestly just as wrong and impossible as saying "Decidueye could make a great Greninja echo fighter." Furthermore, I feel like people are taking echo fighters way too far. It's really just an official name for clones. I don't know how this sparked this outrageous idea that every character should come to smash as an echo of someone else when we've never done this before. This community used to look so down upon clones but I guess Sakurai giving them their own name makes the concept great now? I personally don't hate clones or echos whatever you want to call them, but I think we're going over board with them. We'll probbaly get a few picks and nothing more, like every Smash game.

People don't care about clones now that they're being upfront that they take less effort to actually put in and aren't taking slots from "real fighters." Besides, Daisy is such an off pick that people are probably expecting more than we're actually getting, plus Shadow's assist trophy and several alt skins for potential echo fighters (Chrom, Dark Samus) weren't in the demo along with Robin's final smash not being shown. It's getting people excited to have their favorite characters have a higher chance than they've ever had.

Rex as an echo fighter? Not possible, because even WITH the Monado itself, Rex STILL can't actually use Back Slash, Shulk's side special, and he can't actually duplicate Vision either because when Pyra is active he can't see the future at all and Mythra's Foresight is a PASSIVE skill that during actual gameplay provides a 50% boost to accuracy and evasion to the whole party, while Shulk's visions are randomly occurring proc effects where the player must react in time to avoid, negate or prevent a single enemy attack, so you can't really compare the two and make an echo fighter.

I like that the black hole's glow changes color depending on the stage that you're in. It makes sense, since that glow is the light being sucked in. And different colored light would be in these different stages. Nice.

This is off topic but in one of Pikachu’s pictures, Pikachu was gold in Pokémon Stadium As far as I know, there is no item in Smash that turns you gold (unless I forgot :P), the only place you can turn gold is in the stage Golden Plains

Don’t set yourself up with high expectations. Only 1 Smash game has had a story. I’ve been playing Smash since 64 and honestly that’s a lot of extra work to appeal to a minority of Smash fans for Ultimate. I understand why you would like a story mode though.

Banjo and Kazooie as an Echo Fighter of Duck Hunt (Duo) isn't even possible, because, well, a dog and a bear have a very, very different body type. Echo Fighter would mean that Banjo & Kazooie would use the same animation skeleton and basic moveset of Duck Hunt, and that simply doesn't work in any conceivable way. Heck, Banjo is bipedal, where the dog is obviously quadrupedal, and it would make absolutely zero sense for B&K to use the Zapper shot attacks and the can and whatever. If you understand what Echo Fighters are supposed to be, you know that this is just impossible. On that note, I get people wanting unique movesets for these "Echo Fighters", but I think the very fact that they make such easy and logical clone characters is why they can be included at all. Frankly, none of the current Echo Fighters would've stood so much as a chance at inclusion if they weren't easy and obvious candidates for clone movesets, and at least for all of them, it still makes *sense*. Dark Pit is a literal clone of Pit, except with a rougher attitude. Lucina actually pretends to be Marth for a while in Awakening, and she uses the same Lodestar model in that game as he does. And Daisy, well, the aesthetic similarities go a very long way, I think, and again, shared models in other games. I just think it's good to keep this in mind.

D YellowMadness I don’t think they’re that awful. They can keep the game fresh and add a new layer of things to unlock. Also, massively is a really strong word. The only time we’re balancing was a massive issue was with brawl meta knight, but that hardly represents the whole series.

Interesting thing to note about the Ice Climber's Final Smash, Nana actually doesn't hang on to the pterodactyl with Popo. During the Final Smash clip, you see that Nana is actually trying to catch up to him the entire time, but never actually grabs on. I'm not sure if it's just because Popo is moving in and out of the foreground/background, but something tells me otherwise since the two are together to trigger the clip anyway.

I posted this in the last weekly update but i really wanted to get it out there. I believe Echo Fighters will be selectable in a similar manner to selecting the final destination stage. Press a button and change the curser to have a Epsilon symbol and any character that has an Echo Fighter will be displayed as that Echo Fighter instead.

I honestly don’t think Mario needs to change his moveset overall. Mario is the base & simple character anyone can pick up. He’s basically the Ryu of Super Smash Bros. I’m totally fine with his moveset to be the same, but I do agree with Andre that his Final Smash The Mario Finale is pretty lame. I wish his Final Smash would be taking from Odyssey or something. Oh well, overall, Mario is still great & doesn’t need to change that much other than his Final Smash.

I just had a thought, a mechanic I feel that would improve the game would be alternate-movesets. Instead of creating a new character, a single character could have multiple movesets chosen on the character select screen, in the same vein as alternate costumes. That way, they could update characters without stepping on any toes. Mario could get a new moveset that incorporates Cappy, Link could get one more reminiscent of his latest adventures as a Champion, Pokémon could use different moves etc. Thoughts?

Champion Link is such wasted potential... Revali's Gale as the recovery, Urbosa's Fury as extended range for the grounded Up Special if you charge it long enough, the Ancient Arrow dissintegrating the opponent over a certain % or if it's a sure KO (Kinda like how Bayonetta's Final Smash straight out KOs the enemy or Ryu's Shin Shoryuken does a special effect when it's gonna KO the opponent), a different shield when guarding to represent Daruk's Protection (like how Yoshi uses an egg instead of a normal shield), the grab using magnesis (even if it wouldn't make sense with a lot of characters who don't use metallic gear or weapons), bombs randomly being Square every now and then, and so much more!

AndresLionheart you do know they can't change the character to much because it will be like developing a whole new character. Also keep in mind that links already has some minor changes like the recovery

Why would "developing a new character" be something bad? We also have Young Link and Toon Link if you want more classic Links. Also, a lot of what I said are just little details to give him more nods to what his design pulls from. If they took away the Hookshot and changed his Final Smash to make it more like Breath of the Wild then why not also add the little Breath of the Wild details?

Well, what do you think is the most obvious con of developing a new character? Developing a new, quality character for a fighting game is hard and takes time, especially with a roster as big as this one to consider. I can imagine that Sakurai probably wanted to limit the time and resource investment towards reworking Link within the context of a project of this scale. You gotta draw the line somewhere.

I mean, sure, but I interpreted the other guys reply as it it would be a bad thing because he would be too different to how he was. Still, that doesn't mean I can't dream of all those little details being added to him and think it feels like wasted potential to make him a lot different than the other two Links which pretty much get no changes (other than having to add a Final Smash to Young Link, which I hope, no, I expect to be something with the Fierce Deity Mask)

That Black Hole item looks similar to the background animation of Final Destination. In both Melee and Brawl, FD had a background transition where the stage appeared to be sucked through a wormhole of a similar indigo color.

Daisy is still the only one the gets me the most hype, she’s right where she belongs. She has ascended beyond Kart Racing, Partying and Sports and made her way into Smash and even has a unique idle animation unlike Dark Pit and Lucina.

Her Idol isn't the only thing that's unique. A lot of her animations are unique, including her taunts. The only other thing we know is that her side B launches downward, while Peach's launches up. Confirming that Echoes can I have very minor gameplay differences.

I just wanna give some quick thoughts off my chest. I love the fact that even though Daisy shares a moveset with Peach, she still has a unique idle animation on top of her other unique ones that we've seen so far. I do not like that Lucina shares Marth's idle animation. If you've played Awakening or even Fire Emblem Warriors, you know Lucina's stance and the way she holds her Falchion. You've seen the way she runs with it. Even if the attacks between her and Marth are the same, I at least would've wanted her to have her iconic stance as her idle animation just for variety's sake. Dark Pit could’ve got a unique idle animation too, if you played Uprising depending on the weapon you use Pit has unique idles for all of them and another thing why couldn’t Sakurai give Dark Pit a Projectile with his Staff, he clearly holds it in his artwork for Smash 4, not too sure about Smash 5. Anyways I’m super excited for Daisy!

Rex would not make a good echo fighter of Shulk. He's like two feet shorter than Shulk and implementing blades as a substitute for Monado arts would take way to much effect (they'd have to model and animated each of those blades and remoldel the aegis itself). Banjo and Kazooie also wouldn't make sense for Duck hunt as banjo is bypedal. Shadow is also problematic because of his however shoes, he can't run the same way as Sonic which is would complicate things. The whole idea that there will be tons of Echo Fighters is already flawed because the whole idea behind echo fighters is that they are pretty effortless to make. Lucina is basically just, and forgive me for this phrasing, enhanced skins. There is effort to set them apart but not much effort. There aren't many characters that fit the qualifications of being easy to implement as echo fighters. Additionally every known echoes fight has some reason for being an echo of another character (dark pit is a clone, Lucina masqueraded as Marth, and Daisy is just a alternate take on Peach). How many characters on the rost do you know that have a reason to play and move almost identically like their original. Characters like Ken, Zack, or Jeanne are all examples of characters that could work as echoes, they are all different character, they all have an intrinsic reason to play and move identically to their original, they all would be easy to implement (outside of the fact that they are all 3rd party) and are all fan favourites in some way.

The Black Hole item might be a Kid Icarus item. It was a power Pit could use that sucks in enemies into a big clump so you could blow them away. It also shows up as part of Palutena's Final Smash in 4 paired with the Megalaser.
