From what I've seen about Sonic, you can no longer cancel spin dash with shield and his dash attack is completely different, changing from a spin to a kick to just a lunge kick. Other than that the rest of his changes is to make him stronger and more complete of a fighter. Because of this, he will no longer be a campy player in 1v1 matches (unless you pick a large stage), and will be more focused as a rushdown character. It's for that reason that Sonic is one of my most anticipated characters of the game.

25:53 to 28:48 While I am pretty bummed that Krystal isn't a playable character, I'm happy to see that they are finally doing something with her. When they showed that Fox, Falco and Wolf's designs were based on Star Fox Zero I thought they were really going through with the stupid idea that Zero is a reboot and that the Post 64 games don't exist. I'm so glad they didn't do that because Adventures and Assault expanded on the Star Fox universe with new characters and worlds. It's far more interesting than what they are doing with the series now by recycling 64 over and over again, always doing Star Fox SNES callbacks in stuff like Mario Maker and Starlink. it feels like they are afraid of having new ideas because SNES/64 purists will complain about it, threaten to not buy the game and say the game sucks because it's not Classic Star Fox. when in reality Classic Star Fox is why stuff like 64 3D and Zero bombed.

So did everyone just forget that in brawl you could select what pokemon to start a match with by hovering the cursor over the pokemon and selecting it? You could do that with Zelda and Sheik too and if you did select one of the pokemon/sheik and then re-selected the character, you would hear the announcer actually call their name alongside the Wii remote sound effect.

To comment on Sonic characters, Shadow is the only likely character to be added, and only as an Echo fighter. I love Sonic, but for Smash, there is only like 3 Sonic characters I would really really want in Smash, but I have more Sonic characters I DON'T want to see in Smash (Including Classic Sonic) Sonic might as well try their own version of Smash if they ever get good consistent quality with the games.

No. Dialogue would make it worse. Part of SSE's charm was that it told its story entirely through body language and facial expressions. There are some scenes in SSE that just wouldn't work as well if characters talked, like tea time on the Halberd (where the scene is so audacious that any dialogue would have ruined the atmosphere) or Dedede giving up his badge for Peach/Zelda (as knowing his thoughts would have spoiled the endgame). On top of that, a good chunk of the roster is mute in their games. The entire Mario cast is either mute or only speaks through text (barring a few common phrases and in the Mario and Luigi games, Italian gibberish). Link, Kirby, Villager, and the Pokemon Trainer don't speak so the player can project how they'd react onto them. Mr. Game and Watch and Pacman started their careers before dialogue in games even existed and have largely remained silent since. How do you tell a compelling story while keeping to the spirit of these games? You do it without dialogue. Yes, some of Nintendo's franchises have been more vocal from the get-go and you could argue that you'd be doing THOSE games a disservice if their characters didn't get dialogue. But then the question becomes what's the bigger cost? Making vocal characters mute for a specific occasion (where their core personality traits can still be communicated non-verbally) or suddenly giving voices to characters who previously didn't have any? I'd say that the latter comes with more risk.

Do you have any other argument for suddenly giving voices to approximately half the cast (and oftentimes these characters are mute *on purpose*) aside from "because other games are doing it"? That feels weak and bandwagon-y. Not every game benefits from dialogue. The most pertinent example from Nintendo's history, I think, is what happened to Metroid. Metroid started out as completely mute with the only speaking lines coming at the beginning and sometimes the end to describe the game's objective and results. Otherwise there were no words and its story was told entirely through atmosphere and silent cut-scenes. This allowed players to project their reactions to the world onto Samus and encouraged players to pay attention to details (an absolute necessity for Metroid's gameplay) since the story cannot be experienced otherwise. This put a huge emphasis on exploration and world building and its story worked in tandem with its gameplay to build a player's observational skills. Metroid more or less retained the same formula even after it jumped to 3D and first-person with Metroid Prime, even if there was a bit more dialogue in some of the later games like Metroid Fusion and Metroid Prime 3. Things changed in Metroid: Other M. In that game, everyone was talking, even Samus, and rather than open-world exploration you were confined to a hallway for the vast majority of it. Everything in Other M is counter-intuitive to what makes Metroid a joy to play, and the sudden voicing of Samus is a part of it. Take the infamous Ridley scene. In other games Samus hesitates a little before fighting him too, but in those the pause in the action is there to build tension and establish that Ridley is going to be one hell of an opponent. In Other M though, Samus monologues about why she's hesitating, which ultimately changes the scene's focus from "Ridley is strong" to "Samus is weak". To say that players were offended is an understatement. It's no surprise that after Other M, Nintendo pulled a 180 and made Metroid a mute game again in Samus Returns. Even Smash has felt the backpedal, since Samus is mute in every Smash 4 character trailer she appears in and Ridley's trailer has no dialogue at all. It's clear from experience that Metroid is a series that is better off with a mute protagonist and minimal dialogue in general. Also, I'd like to bring up Doom 2016 here. A handful of characters are voiced, but Doom Guy is completely silent. That is rather deliberate, given that Doom is pretty much Metroid Prime on Testosterone and all the reasons a mute protagonist works for Metroid translate to Doom as well. Bethesda knew what they were doing when they decided to keep Doom Guy silent for their quasi-reboot.

The one thing I like about Smash is that is has unique stages unlike other fighting games which some do but not like Smash. While the game is a platform the second best stages in that genre is MUGEN.

As much as I love Young Link with the Deku shield & Kokiri sword but it be awesome if he had his mirror shield & gilded sword. It could be a different alt. Also upset they didn't do a Pkmn thing where he turns into Deku, Goron & Zora. But I wonder if that will be his final smash where he brings out each mask attacking with each one with Goron rolling into you or Diety slashing for the final blow. Maybe Y.Link will call the Great Fairy. I just don't want his final smash to be like Toon Link's.

senpai sama your not alone. I love Starfox Assault as well along with Starfox Adventures even though it got seriously mixed reviews. I still play them both on my gamecube to this day and I don't care what people say I consider those games canon to the original starfox game series. I also hope for krystal to be playable one day in smash.

Retro2K I think he was added late in Brawl's development cycle, so they used the model of him in a ball to speed up the process. I would appreciate it if he had been reworked in Smash 4, but to be fair, what do you make his side b or down b, and which one to you change? You could make his side b a boost, but I've played Brawl Minus and that is far too broken to be allowed in that state . . . Yet it couldn't exist in any other state. Maybe could be a counter, but we already have like 25 characters with counters, so that would be lazy. What would you make it?

The Four Star Gamer I can answer all of that. His down B makes more sense, so you replace his side B. What would it be? Every modern Sonic game after Sonic 06 that I can recall has had a slide mechanic for going through small gaps. This would be a good side B that could knock your opponent straight up into the air off their feet to be comboed. Done. Character fixed.

Mr. Nameless That'd be too similar to his current dash attack though (it's the kick from 4 without the spin at the start). And the slide is about as special as his 3D stomp (which became his down air). I'd go with light speed dash (works as a chargable Fox Illusion) as a Side B replacement. EDIT: Oh yeah, Smash Flash 2 did the exact thing I was talking about.

agreed, really dislike how he's specifically designed to be obnoxious with half his moves looking almost the same.the sonic adventure games alone gave them tons of material for moves like the lighst speed dash for side b for example and then you have stuff like his moves from sonic battle(which granted i will give them credit for taking some of his normals from). That said, i really hope his backthrow is still nerfed. sonic is obnoxious enough to fight without having a kill throw. I will also never understand teh decision on sonic's alts. they could have atleast just goven him generic palette swaps as this is not just annoying from an effort standpoint so much as a gameplay standpoint. half the time i see sonic dittos it can be really hard to keep track of who is who due to the fact that the alts aren't as clearly distinguishable as other characters which is REALLY IMPORTANT TO HAVE IN ANY MULTIPLAYER GAME.

I’m sure with how technical he is, some tournament player will make great use of the strengths of each Pokémon, and how switching changes things up! Switching basically acts as a spot dodge and I can see some BIG plays in it!

JediKirbyGames Yea, I really wish they focused Young Link more on his Majora's Mask incarnation, since he plays a bigger role in that game than in OoT. I've personally always wished he had the Hero's Shield, and/or that Toon Link had the Wind Waker Mirror Shield. But I guess the Deku and family shields also help distinguish the characters from normal Link better, since the shields I would prefer look very similar to the Hylian shield.

Yeah i really wish young link would play more on majora's mask in general especially since toon link took mostly took young link's old niche anyway outside of fire arrows and there's just SO MUCH moveset potential from the masks. It's a slim chnace but i'm really hoping his side special is a move that works somewhat similarly to shulk's standard b where you can choose one of 3 different attacks(or maybe it'd work better if it was like marth's dancing blade? idk) one tranforming him into zora link for a quick long ranged attack, one involving, deku link for a speedy close range spin that can be moved forward or back somewhat, and the last involving goron link who would deliver a powerful punch(with the drawback for the power being that it has a sihgbificnat ammount of endlag meaning it'd be very punishable on whiff or sheild). i also hope his final smash is a cinematic fierce deity one

Just a note on Pokemon Trainer, I believe you select which one you start with by clicking on the pokemon itself. EDIT: On the N64 Dreamland stage (in Smash 4 at least), King Dedede showed up in the background, but isn't there if someone is playing as him, so I'm sure it would be the same for Ridley if it came back.

VonFirflirch Given that they changed the original Link's Final Smash, I say that there's a high chance that at least one of the other Links will have a different one too. Hopefully it is Young Link's Final Smash, given that he's had less contact with the Triforce as compared to Toon Link. I've got three ideas as to what it could be. There's always the Fierce Deity mask that he can don and go to town on everyone else via combo or cinematic. He could also use Din's Fire like he does in Ocarina of Time...it'd feel kinda mundane compared to other Final Smashes granted, but then again the now BotW Link also kind of has a mundane one too, and so it'd be comparable. What I think might be MOST interesting though is if it involves his ocarina. He could bring down hail and lightning and tornadoes via the Song of Storms, or I guess slow down time for everyone else via the Song of Time, making for some easy charged up smash attacks.

Like, have each one of them use their signature move as part of a combo, with Fierce Deity delivering the final blow, throwing the victims to the moon, destroying the latter x) Sheik's design is based off a piece of clothing from BOTW, right? Maybe she'll get a new weapon from there? ... or perhaps just Zelda's new one, but sending its victims into a slightly different direction, like her version of the Light Arrows did?

VonFirflirch While that would be awesome, the only issue I see with that idea being how long it'd take - it seems like a running theme with all the new Final Smashes is that they get, well, "straight to the punch" as Sakurai said in the direct. None of them take all that long to complete, and while you theoretically could fit all the transformations and attacks into that time, I feel like it'd happen so quick that it'd rob all the masks of any quality time in the spotlight. I do hope that Sheik gets her own Final Smash, as the new triforce one that Zelda has wouldn't fit her much either I feel, akin to Young Link and the triforce. And I suppose there might be a lot from BotW that they can pull from for her Final Smash, as...well...full disclosure, I haven't actually gotten around to playing BotW yet... >.>

In Brawl, you can just click on the Pokemon on the character portrait when selecting Trainer to change the starting Pokemon(where you can change costumes, not selecting the character). Same with Zelda/Sheik. ZSS was selected by holding the shield and/or grab button while selecting Samus, but you had to hold it until you started the match.

Cars in Onette is probably my fav stage hazard. But yes, really glad the stage hazard toggle is. Hope we can turn off hazards on a per stage basis, since it's only really the stage bosses and the lava waves from that one Metroid stage with the five platforms that I'd actively want to disable for the most part, but most of the time I do random stages.

IMO "final boss" definitely fits Mewtwo in Red/Blue/Green, but not "villain" or "antagonist." My reason being that the plots of Pokémon games push good/bad archetypes on the people rather than the creatures. But I can see where you're coming from: Super Smash Bros does give Mewtwo a sort of evil atmosphere, especially in his voice. He was even included alongside Bowser and Ganondorf in Melee's infamous Event 51. My basis on whether a character is evil, though, comes from their source games, not a spin-off's interpretations.

for me my favorite stage hazard was the summons in Midgar,getting to see the insane over the top ways they interact with the stage in which you battle on is what makes Midgar a great stage imo
