This prevents you from being vulnerable on the ground since you almost immediately get up after getting hit, as opposed to just lying on the ground given the option to roll or get up attack. On walls, this reduces knock back so people who hit you into the stage won't knock you off.

By the way, did you know that Alvin is remaking the SMBZ series with some changes (such as Mecha Sonic beeing replaced, and Basilix disappearing, I'm still hoping for a Fire Sonic though, it's one of the coolest transformations ever, especially considering the way he actually appears the first time.
