Absolutely probably the very best staking system I have yet seen in any trapping video on the internet, and I have watched hundreds of them. Not the cheapest option initially but since you can easily recover each stake without fail, it is more cost effective in the long run than using cheap disposable cable stakes. Plus I feel the chains are far stronger and less likely for an animal to defeat. I'm going to be upgrading my trapping gear and I think I am going to build some of these and give them a try! Thanks for sharing your idea. I've subscribed and look forward to your videos.

Thank you very much! I was bending and losing so many of the wolffangs so I decided it was time for a permanent upgrade.

I've used those super stakes with chain and loved them for all reasons except removing them. Great idea with the cables to pull them out, because they are a PITA to get them out otherwise! Very nice idea!

Yeah that red clay in my area dries rock hard. Makes more sense to get it out asap. Thanks!

Thanks man. The chain is really nice how it drops down below the trap in the bed.

I tried this but broke a lot of cables. I just drill down beside the chain to pull them. I use #3 instead of #2 . 18" seems a bit long.

Do these pull out ok

That depends alot on soil type and how deep you go. You will have to go as deep as necessary to best suit your target animals. Without the retrieval system to flip it back upright, you'll probably have to dig them out. Some guys say they pull them with a truck or SxS but that isn't always feasible

What size nut do you weld on? Also what size cable are you using for retrieval?

I believe the hole in the nut is about 3/16. Cable is about the same. You could probably get away with using slightly smaller cable because of how it flips it back to vertical and has less drag when pulling back up. If your ground is extra rocky or freezes really deep you may want to go heavier. Good luck!

Looks OK but it could be improved with a small dia short galvinized spring on the chain between the two swivels. Size of spring ballanced to animal weight. Go to a lighter spring if trapping multiple species as spring is only to take the jerking action out of an animal hitting the chain end. Short springs do not tangle! Plus small diameter spring as they last for a lot more years........! No escapes! No pulled stakes & No injury if you get someones pet dog or a non target animal it can be released unharmed. (Jaws of a trap are not a factor in most injury its an animal jumping in the trap with a sudden jerk as it hits the chain end. Amassing how many animals you can catch held by just one claw with 2 swivels on the chain (which you have) & the correct size & shape of chain spring!

Get them in the ground 20” and nobody except maybe a linebacker is going to steal your trap
