I watched Samantha’s video on this! I commented how I had a crush on a guy who was trans. He presented as a guy, and I didn’t even know he was trans for at least a year or so. Somebody in the comments said how I was offensive for identifying as straight despite liking a trans man. They said that I was pan, and if I was truly straight I wouldn’t like him. Hey Kristina, I know you didn't mean it like that, but saying a sexuality can't be defined by who people are not attracted to is kinda invalidating to asexual and aromantic people. We kind of have to define ourselves by who we are not (sexually or romantically) attracted to due to the nature of our sexualities. @@ElHedge I was thinking asexuals "are sexually attracted to no one", and demisexuals, "are sexually attracted to those who met certain criteria" still counts as an attraction qualifier rather than a lack thereof. Romantic identities are not sexual identities however, but I still read it as what you are attracted to without purposeful exclusion. That answer can absolutely be "no one," I don't think it's lacking in any regards. Other comparison: if you ask me what I did all weekend I can say anything from canoeing to watched TV, but I could also say "nothing" and not consider it a lacking because though I did nothing it is still a day going by of doing nothing and I can still be happy with it. I'm not lacking canoeing or television, I did nothing and that's fine. 😊 That's my perspective at least.

I’m glad you guys are making these videos. I think it was started because cis gender people are tired of being labeled as transphobic for not wanting to date trans, perhaps by people who are toxic in the community or just follow to be liked instead of being part of the community. I don’t believe dating preferences fall under the category of ‘discrimination’ because I don’t believe dating someone or having sex with someone is a right that can be deprived. I don’t think anyone is entitled to dates or sex. I can even agree that people who refuse to date specific groups of people may do so out of prejudicial beliefs and still recognize that said person still has the right to do so. I don’t think that anyone is entitled to a reason or a “good reason” for being rejected. If the answer is no, the answer is simply no, the reason does not have to be up to your standards, or anyone’s standards. No matter how silly, trivial, outlandish, ridiculous, unreasonable, or even despicable a reason is, no means no. The answer to fixing prejudicial beliefs is by addressing the actual prejudicial beliefs themselves, not by focusing on who said person does not want to date. If someone won’t date black women because they are racist, then the answer is to fix their racial prejudice, not get them to date black women. Their reason may be one that you find despicable. But that’s irrelevant, because they are not obligated to provide a reason that meets your standards. I also believe that people can refuse to date people of certain groups for non-prejudicial reasons. I don’t believe all straight and gay people are sexist, for instance. I don’t think someone hates gender neutral people just because they choose not to date them. Or even that someone is racist if tend to be attracted to certain racial groups and not others. It’s difficult to draw a line between unconscious bias and natural attraction. How do we know why we’re attracted to who we are attracted to? Therefore, if we have a reason to suspect prejudice is at play, we should address the prejudice, not play matchmaker. If not, then who someone chooses to date or not to date is none of your business and unless they ask you for advice or need help, then you can keep your opinion to yourself. Some people will argue that if someone is initially attracted to a person and then becomes unattracted to them because they find out that person is trans, then they are prejudicial, because they liked that person up until the point they learned they were trans. Nope, sorry, still not buying it. People can give consent and then withdraw it for any reason. Saying yes to one date does not mean yes to all future dates. Saying yes prior to sex does not invalidate a person’s ability to change their mind and retract consent during sex. The same applies here. Just because you initially liked someone does not mean you can’t decide you don’t like them later on. Again, no means no, the reason they reject you or another person does not have to have your seal of approval in order to be valid. If they do not want to date someone, for any reason, then they should not be pressured, shamed, bullied or otherwise coerced into feeling guilty about it. As someone who was in an abusive relationship, I very strongly believe that no one should ever feel obligated to be with someone they do not want to be with. Every single person has the right to set boundaries for what they are comfortable with in a relationship and to feel like their boundaries are honored. When people are made to feel like their boundaries in a relationship do not matter, it can lead to unhealthy and unbalanced relationships. Healthy relationships are always consensual. If someone truly does hold some type of prejudice then they will likely not do well in a relationship with someone they are prejudiced against. The answer is to fix their prejudicial thinking, not make them feel like they have no right to set the boundaries that they have. As long as a boundary does not harm, control or victimize another person, then that boundary should be honored. Sometimes people may set unrealistic or likely unattainable standards for what they expect in a partner and in these cases, those people can be helped and counseled to have a more productive outlook on relationships. But they still do not need to be forced or feel guilty about not dating someone they do not want to date. They may need a reality check, certainly but shaming them is not a productive reality check. No one is being victimized by not getting a date or sex, because no one is entitled to a date or sex. People who are made to feel that they have no right to set boundaries for what they are comfortable with or who are coerced into relationships they do not want to be in often are victimized. So I really, truly do not believe in expressing anger or outrage or shaming people for choosing not to date groups of people. IF they are choosing not to date groups of people out of prejudice, then address the prejudice itself.
