I was first playing the original World Warrior port on SNES and wishing I could play as Bison... and then my wish was granted. Bison, and the M. was short for "Mike," because, originally, in the first street fighter, there was a character named Mike, who was an ex-boxer who killed someone in the ring. Balrog's name was changed due to likeness rights (because he was based off Mike Tyson), and now that M. Bison is M. Bison, the M. is short for "Master."
