You mention a "secret 4th mode of VC" that is for videographers/movies and can e configured with the TAP-in console (at 4:15). Well, I have this lens and the TAP-in console, and I don't know what you are talking about... What is configured in this mode and how? Where is it set? What happens to the VC 1/2/3 mode in movie shooting modes of the Canon camera? I connected to the lens with TAP-in console and see nothing about this. Any explanation would help. Also, two questions: - At what shutter speed, may it make better sense to turn off any VC off? - Would it make sense to avoid using VC when using a Tripod? What if it is a "pretty good travel tripod", but not "rock steady"? Thanks!
@DigitalGojaUSA4 жыл бұрын
Hello, Tal Givoly. Yeah, it's a bit confusing because they don't have mode 4 on the lens but I found this from Tamron's website: " VC MODE 3 prioritizes the stabilization of the captured images and forgoes the stabilization of the viewfinder image. VC Mode 4 can be programmed with the optional TAMRON TAP-in ConsoleTM. You can overwrite VC Mode 1 with VC Mode 4, which allows stabilization to be engaged constantly for videography purposes. In this mode, the LCD screen is used." As long as you are using a shutter speed that follows the 1/focal length you should be fine without the stabilization. Remember, if you are trying to freeze a bird in flight, you will need a fast enough shutter speed to do so. I would also recommend deactivating the VC when you have the camera on a tripod. Thanks for watching!
@TalGivoly4 жыл бұрын
@@DigitalGojaUSA that is very interesting. Still confusing as I use VC mode 1 often... so what would happen if I swap the configuration of that mode - will it be more battery-consuming or less effective for stills? What would be the configuration for this mode 4 and what would the impact be on stills? I also have in-camera movie-mode image stabilization off (Canon T7i) and am wondering if that would work well, or not, in conjunction for movies, in partiuclar (assuming the camera is on a zoom, but it's a fairly long telephoto). It seems like the only approach is trial & error... My use case: Small birds video - usually at nearly 600mm on crop sensor. Always on travel tripod with good stereo mic. I sometimes even use the digital 3x zoom on camera (which uses center pixels on the sensor - so doesn't degrade quality nearly at all). But then image stabilization may be helping (even on tripod - especially, when windy).
@DigitalGojaUSA4 жыл бұрын
@Tal Givoly You know what the language is a bit confusing, but let’s see if we could figure this out. For shooting stills, I would leave it on VC mode 1. This mode makes it more comfortable to view and compose the image through the viewfinder, especially when the lens is extended to 600mm. I believe that you won’t be able to have the VC engaged at all times when shooting through the viewfinder, but if you did, it will surely eat up the camera’s battery life. I don’t think this “mode 4” would have an impact on stills. In regards to the camera’s Electronic stabilization, I believe that is only accessible when the camera is set to move mode. Most likely a portion of the frame is cropped when you have this active. This work relatively well for static handheld shots. I think you nailed it with trial and error. It would be best to see what works best for your particular situation. Take care!

I am pretty confused with the settings that I need to choose with this lens I have. I use a 5d mark iv and use the vc mode 1 mostly to shoot birds with the focus limiter range at the first position which is full and beyond the infinity - 10 m mark, but something is going wrong. The bird photos aren't tact sharp, though the shutter speed is maintained at 1/2500 with iso at 1600. I am feeling very frustrated and demotivated. What do I do? It is also requested to digital goja to come up with a detailed tutorial about the controls and a bird photography shooting workshop or KZbin video on how to use this lens on a canon full frame. Thanking you in anticipation.
@DigitalGojaUSA4 жыл бұрын
Hello, aright das. If you are using fast shutter speeds I would recommend deactivating the VC on the lens. Especially if you are going to shoot in the continuous mode. The time that you would use VC would be when you are tracking the birds in flight. For this you would use mode two while panning with the birds. In regards to doing a video on the subject, it's something that we will consider for a future video. Thanks for your recommendation. Take care!
@billmastrippolito71324 жыл бұрын
I use mode 3 when shooting birds in flight. Check how sharp your focus is on stationary objects using the same camera and lens settings and zoom etc that you shoot birds with while still using your eyepiece to frame the shot. If those still shots aren't sharp you'll need to get the tap-in console to fine tune the lens to suit your camera body then you'll end up with perfect focus at all distances and all zoom levels.

Hey Hadi Raja 54. The Tamron offers impressive corner to corner sharpness when extended out to 600mm, the focus is fast, and its vibration compensation is incredible. Plus, you have more reach with the Tamron.

Many thanks for this comprehensive and quite helpful review! Indeed no lens is perfect, even when it costs four or five times more, but this video provides me insights to manage my expectations. If you don't mind Digital Goja, since this Tamron only comes in Canon and Nikon mounts, and I use a Fuji X camera, what is an ideal (EF to XF) adapter that I can use on my Fuji X-T3 and still retains auto-focus capability?
@DigitalGojaUSA4 жыл бұрын
Glad it was helpful! Metabones offers two adapters that have seem to work well for users. They offer a smart adapter that provides support for phase detect AF, metering and other features, and they also have a speed booster ultra 0.71x which will allow you to achieve a wider field of view with your EF Glass. In addition to the added FOV, it will also push more light onto the sensor (approx 1 full stop). This does come at a very steep cost. Besides that there are a variety of adapters that will allow you to mount EF glass to your Fuji X series cameras. Thanks for watching!

Nice video. I like the Canon 80D for wildlife using the 100-400mm II lens with the 1.4x Extender III for 896mm at f/8, with 27 AF points. 400mm x1.6 crop x 1.4 extender = 896mm. May upgrade to the Canon 90D for its 32Mp sensor and 10 Fps. Take mostly handheld shots of BIF and occasionally use a monopod. Very nice combination.

I've had my Tamron 150-600mm G2 for some time, which works well with my D750 Nikon, but I'll assume I need to have it updated if I where to switch to the Nikon mirrorless cameras? Then again, it might be fine if I went to the D850 instead? With the weather we get here in southwest Canada, I haven't had this lens out a lot, as I find I need the gimbal head, making the whole issue quite heavy with my Manfrotto tripod. Loving the image you showed us! I've often wondered if I should pick up a Nikon DX camera, for the added reach...but then, what are the images like from 600-900mm?
@DigitalGojaUSA4 жыл бұрын
Hello, Dale Watkins. Thanks for your feedback. As long as the lens has the latest firmware you should be able to use it with any of the current Nikon Z series mirrorless cameras. If you are looking for that extra reach (while maintaining the full resolution) it may be best to go with either the D850 or Z7 shooting in DX crop mode Or maybe even a DX camera body (D500?). I know bringing out a Gimbal adds weight but it relieves some of the stress from hand holding the camera and lens for extended periods of time. It also provides you with the feel of hand holding the lens. Thanks for watching! Take care.

Don't worry if you don't have an arca compatible head because there are two standard 1/4-20 mounting threads underneath to attach directly to a tripod/monopod or quick release plate.
