It is commonly known that the Fuji tele converters reduce the quality of the pictures substantially in particular the 2x converter which isn't really good enough for bird photography. It is better to crop in a bit more in post. What would be interesting to know is whether or not the converter works better on the XH2s/150-600 than it does on the 100-400 ?

in the UK the 100-400 with the 1.4x tele sold as a package is currently £1649, the 150-600 is £1899, which is £250 more. For those of us that have the 100-400 currently even if you don't have the tele convertor, and you want more reach it is £350 for the 1.4 on it's own to make the 400mm into 560mm F/8... or sell the 100-440 for around £1000 then pay £899 more for the 150-600. personally i would by the 1.4x tele. Really hoping the Sigma 150-600 F6.3 sport is released for the X-Mount since that is £1299 (use it is a full frame lens and heavier but that is a £600 price difference

@@9Mtikcus I own the 100-400 and the 1.4 teleconverter and I never use the tc because I find the drop in quality is noticeable. It is easier to just crop in a bit more in post. Every other Fuji shooter I know says exactly the same. I heard somewhere that the performance of the tc on the 150-600 is considerably improved although I'm waiting for some evidence to support this.

@@summolibritor my 100-400 with 1.4 x Teleconverter I never noticed a significant drop, most changes were caused by the increase in iso or reduction in shutter speed caused by the loss of a stop. In good light (which we almost never see here) it performed pretty much the same. Why I am really not interested in an F/8 lens

f/8 w/ 2x converter requires some desperation. At f/16 you have an effective resolution of ~4 megapixels due to diffraction.

I am looking into a birding lens for my Fuji system, and this lens is pretty interesting. My only hangup is the size, I am not sure that guy would fit in my backpack considering it is just so long. I am still leaning towards the 100-400 as it quite a bit shorter when packed, and I already have the 1.4x TC to make it pretty close to the reach. But I am not sure if the 100-400 has the resolving power for the future 40mp cameras coming soon. Do you know? Decisions, decisions.

I purchased a 1.4x teleconverter and was initially very happy with the extra reach on my 100-400. However I came to realize that f8 is very limiting the light reaching the sensor. I removed the teleconverter and I have a feeling of freedom, ability to lower the ISO, everything is looking much sharper and better background separation, much more wiggle room for shutter speed and less noise. I would consider the 150-600mm if the ISO performance of the next Fuji cameras are getting better, I am not ready to upgrade yet as I am very happy with the XT-4 and the 100-400.

If bright, long days are part of the standard, it is certainly a good tele. Otherwise I would prefer the 100-400, especially if you can get it on the used market for a good price. The 200 F2 would of course also be an interesting choice in terms of the open aperture, but that's a completely different league... I think it's best to build the entire fleet together hahah...

If I specialize in sports or wildlife I would get this lens but for general shooting I’m definitely staying with the 100-400mm. This lens is already heavy enough that I don’t want to lug a even bigger lens. The 100-400 has far better close focus ability it would be a pain in the butt to deal with a lens that can’t focus when I need to do a grab shot. Plus finally don’t want to carry a big white lens for every day street.

Thanks - Is the jerky panning better with the h2s than the xt4?
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 2 жыл бұрын
the jerky panning was mostly due to the fact I didn't have a fluid pan head on my tripod. At the same time IBIS tends to cause that vs OIS. I can switch to IBIS with pan control, but I don't think I did that. Need to test more with a production copy in the near future. Thanks for the question

You can turn image stabilization on or off in body, as well as make some adjustments to the type of stabilization you want. Between OIS and IBIS, you can not choose how it will behave. The camera will analyze the scene as well as use some parameters you input and give the best balance of OIS and IBIS if the body has IBIS of course.

@bigheadtaco

you can't display RAW files in general, they must be converted over to some form of viewable format like JPEG, TIFF etc. In addition with the new X-H2S, you can't process the RAW files yet since it's pre-production, except for in-camera processing. If you want a better look at the images I shared, please check out my article at Fujilove.com: fujilove.com/first-look-fujifilm-xf150-600mmf5-6-8-r-lm-ois-wr/ Thanks :-)

I'm personally waiting to see the difference between the X-T5 and X-H2. Since we know there's two sensors now, there may even be a third, plus maybe a second processor. This year seems to be the year where Fujifilm will be more clear about each category of camera and what type of hardware they're going to get. I don't see the stacked sensor going into an X-E body since it won't be able to handle the throughput. However, I also don't see them giving the X-E a 40MP sensor either. Maybe a third 36MP sensor for base level cameras and maybe the X-T? Who knows. Pretty exciting stuff though...

hi, thank you for sharing your experience with 150-600. since i am mounting this lens on my xt5 with 1.5 crop factor, then technically with this lens i have an aperture limitation of 8.4-12! which is put me in a difficult situation of proper exposure in low light conditions, if i want to keep my iso low and shutter speed high. What's your advise?
@Alkaponedd
@Alkaponedd Жыл бұрын
So the way you’re describing the effect of crop factor on aperture isn’t actually accurate, and the max aperture as it applies to exposure is in fact still f5.6-f8 for this lens. While multiplying the crop factor by the focal length and aperture is helpful in understanding the difference in angle of view and depth of field respectively compared to a full frame camera, that’s not really how it works. You have to remember that the focal length and aperture of a lens are physical properties of that lens alone, and aren’t affected by the size of the sensor it’s attached to, therefore the amount of light it lets through doesn’t change. The only difference is how much of the image circle created by a lens is recorded by the sensor. A lens on a crop sensor will give you an angle of view similar to a lens with 1.5 times the focal length on a full frame camera, and the depth of field will be similar to that equivalent focal length at an aperture 1.5 times slower, but the focal length and aperture are still what they are and so the same amount of light will make it to the sensor. f5.6-f8 is still somewhat slow, so you’ll still be cranking up your iso a bit to get a fast enough shutter speed with this lens, but it’s not as bad as you’ve described.

It's better than I thought IQ-wise... For someone who needs or wants a super-long reach this is definitely the lens to get! You must avoid TCs at any cost since the IQ really gets a hit if you use them (speaking from experience). This lens is IF so big thumbs up for that! Also fuji made the right call by making this lens smaller and lighter as possible imo... Yeah it's pretty slow, I'd not be super comfortable I admit it, but this is the longer focal length you can have for now so let's just deal with it! Canon made those super slow super-teles remember? This is much much better and with a similar price too! I hope in a near future fuji will make a real fast super-tele like they did with the 200mm f2 I'm thinking about the rumored 400mm f4 or a 300mm f2.8 why not?! Just something that is big and heavy and bulky for good reasons... Do you know what I mean?! I think this 150-600 is dressed like a full-flagged PRO lens when in reality the only lens in that "category" is the 200mm f2 (for now). While the 50-140 and the 100-400 are full-flagged PRO lenses this one by being this slow... It does not look like it imo I had the 100-400 and ultimately I sold it 'cause I rarely used it since it's a giant heavy lens! This 150-600 it's bigger (not my much yeah but it is) so I'm not sure I'll ever buy it.
