The Band Perry saga has always been so fascinating to me. As you said, they were one of the biggest acts in country music around 2013. They had 4 number one country singles, with 2 of those being on their last country album "Pioneer". They could have made an awesome third country record but went the complete opposite way.
@maxi-me3 жыл бұрын
I don't find anything particularly fascinating about it. As with most country artists over the past decade, Nashville was just a launching pad for their dreams of pop stardom. Unfortunately no one told them Rick Rubin was no longer the top 40 starmaker he once was. Also superb country talent rarely translates into anything more than mediocre pop product.
@MVTX3 жыл бұрын
@@maxi-me I think that The Band Perry could have done what Florida Georgia line did with "Meant to be" and just kind of flirt with the pop charts. Same goes for Maren Morris for the song "The Middle". Both of those songs were really successful but FGL and Morris ultimately still do country. I also though the Band Perry's pop aesthetic was very forced and unnatural.
@maxi-me3 жыл бұрын
@@MVTX I suppose, if just to suppress their longing of being left out of the mainstream. The best decision would have been to stick to their guns. Florida-Georgia state line is not the band they should take cues from IMO. Those guys are entertainers not artists. Not a putdown, they're great at what they do, but they have aspired far beyond simply flirting with pop. They'll make a fabulous Vegas act someday. TBP on the other hand were steeped in Appalachian folk, which was once an important element in the humble beginnings of Nashville. THAT'S what makes them fascinating. They had a lot of potential to preserve that tradition In country but sadly record label speculators exploited their youthful curiosities and derailed their burgeoning career. I only hope they will return to those roots, even if they spend the remainder of their career on the county fair circuit.

Funny story about "Bobbi with an I": My mom and I went to see Phil Vassar and Craig Morgan about 8 years ago. It was around Christmas time and was really laid-back (it was in a pretty nice theater for small-town Indiana). They sat on stage together the whole time, shared the same band, and traded songs and stories all night. After the first few songs, Craig Morgan said something along the lines of "Hey, we're really glad that you all came to our show. We want to play what you want to hear so let us know" and IMMEDIATELY someone stood up and yelled for "Bobbi with an I". Phil just sat there and looked at the person and slowly said "We were gonna play some Christmas songs, and THAT'S what you want to hear? No one on this tour so far has requested "Bobbi with an I" that fast." Craig Morgan almost fell off his chair, he was laughing so hard. It was an awesome show. Katie Armiger opened for them, and it was just a real down-to-earth group of people on that stage. Awesome songwriting and musicianship from everyone. Craig Morgan is an absolute power-house and incredibly under-rated as an artist and writer in country music. And I got to meet Phil Vassar after the show. As a huge fan of him as a writer AND an artist, 15-year-old me died a little inside that night. He wrote so many songs from my childhood.

Just thousands of people all singing along in harmony to this huge and beautiful song. It was such an incredible moment and I've never heard such a large crowd nail that in that way before. The band seemed so genuinely moved and emotional after and spoke to us about how much that meant to them. Such a great moment and The Band Perry made such great country music for a while. I guess I'm glad they're pursuing what they want, but I can't help but be disappointed at what they've become, personally.

There is an old rap song called Donkey that Jarrod Neimann is playing off of. I listened to it in the early 2000’s.

Everybody forgets that Jerrod Niemann sang Lover, Lover. Which is (arguably) better than Drink to that all Night, and (I think) did just about as well.

You're making me want to dig out my Alecia Elliott CD. I'm probably the only person that saw the I'm Diggin' It video before Baby One More Time, so I actually thought back then Britney was ripping off Alecia.

To add another layer of weirdness, Alicia Elliot did a version of her song for a pizza place commercial in, I think, Florida. Same melody, but now she's loving pizza. The video might still be on KZbin.

Ok so in my gym class junior year, property brothers were the only thing playing on the tv. It had one channel and we were forced to watch them on mute every day for a year. So as idiot kids forced to work out to two random dudes we decided to name them Bryan and Ryan and sing terrible made up songs for there commercials and make up our own scripts to the muted show. Who would have thought they were recording us all along to use as song writers

I'm 50, grew up on the best country music ever, thanks Dad. I haven't listened to country radio in over a decade. Just recently found your KZbin channel. I had NO idea about the Property Brothers music prowess, LOL. Wow, every time I check in on the state of country music I'm reminded why I don't listen to it anymore.

Grady you are DEFINITELY not a nerd by any means!! I just discovered your page, but I've been binge watching all your videos as time allows me!! This one was super interesting, a lil weird yes, but who doesn't love a lil weird in their life??!! Lol When you said Trace Adkins I was sure you were gonna say "I Got My Game On" that starred the comedian Rodney Carrington!! Its just as goofy as Brown Chicken Brown Cow, and weird as they may be--- they absolutely crack me up!!! These kind of videos make my day!! I end up making a list from your lists to go check out these crazzyyy songs!!! LOL But for real--- thanks to you man... I know this isn't always easy to gather some of this info but dude we love you for it & hope you know it!! ✌ PS-Cannot wait for the Chris Gaines video!!! The suspense is killing me!! 🤣

The Band Perry was the first country band that I listened to, back when I was first discovering country music. I liked their two country albums. I like Live Forever and Stay in the Dark. I think they’re good songs on their own, but it is a bit strange and jarring when you compare it to how they used to sound. I always wondered what happened to them, and why they didn’t put any more albums out, but never bothered to look into it. Well, now I know. I don’t really keep up with what they’re doing anymore, but I still do enjoy their older songs.

Another great, weird song is.... "Where's The Dress?" by Moe Bandy and Joe Stampley...it's a reflection of two old boys who see/hear Boy George and decide to become Boy Moe & Boy Joe... hilarious song....if you haven't heard it before, check it out.
@kyliepollert83413 жыл бұрын
I have loved George and Culture Club, since I was a little girl; that song's hilarious! (They did get sued by Boy George himself, however, for using the introduction to "Karma Chameleon" without permission, which they should've asked the members of Culture Club first, before recording "Where's the Dress?".)
