Thanks Malcolm. My crew predict the outcome before every final and Steve has an annoying habit of predicting higher place finish than I think I can manage but he's very often right. Starting from 8th I was going to be happy with 4th or 5th behind Jim but I was over the moon to finish on the podium again in a car that has far less HP than many of the cars behind me. I must say it's always an honour to be on track with people like Jim, John Bowe this time and the legend that is 81y/o Bob Holden.

David, I think if there was still an 1600cc class in V8 Supercars, then Bob would still be out there competing in it!!!!!! He's an inspiration, showing his love for the sport. And it's neat to see people like him, Jim, and JB, out there again competing in their old cars. (Oh, and people like you driving them as they should be!!!)

Holy Cow this was epic to watch I love the E30 M3's - small but mighty! First saw an E30 M3 race in the 1988 Nissan Mobil 500 in Wellington, NZ which was a round of the WTCC from memory - they were the factory Schnitzer M3's (Pirro and Ravaglia I 'think' were the drivers - think Brock and Crompton raced M3's in Wellington also that year) I don't know what sot of revs they were pulling when changing gears but I remember them for having the loudest most aggressive shrieking engine note that literally caused physical pain to my ears when they upshift (and no matter where I placed myself around the waterfront circuit, I was always standing exactly where they upshift pulling max rpms) God they were (and are) incredible

That quite possibly was my car that you were watching at Wellington with Brock and Compton driving. My car was Brock’s car in the 88 ATCC, Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 that year. I’ll have to search for some pics for Wellington that year to see if it was in fact my car.

2.3lt 4cyl 280hp at 8500rpm. It was the first M3 and to me, the best. Easy to drive hard, infinitely adjustible, bulletproof drive train. Its the 90s version of a 60s Escort Twin Cam. Tony Longhurst used to get a full season off one motor. In the UK and Europe, where historic racing is booming, they are changing hands for a serious lot of money. BMW still supports them with bits and improvements. Its the same with Volvo, MB and Ford Cologne. Even Audi can supply bits for the S2. Great to see. Its where the crowds are going now.

The Group A Touring Car M3s were putting out 300hp in race trim. We ran this engine for 4 full race seasons before a refresh and were still the fastest in our class.

It's the least I can do, with out them I don't get to go racing. It's very rare that I forget to wave even when a race hasn't gone to plan.

Verry good race👍🏻 Looks like the handeling of the car is verry good. How much horsepower is there in that litle 4cilinder? And whats the pupose of the red button on the steering wheel? Greetings from belgium

RUE5 EK4 ...and about 380 hp in racespec.
@davidtowe73018 жыл бұрын
The later EVO M3s had 360hp at the flywheel but mine being the early spec M3 only has 170kw at the rear wheels. The later M3s had 8 injectors and 2.5 litres capacity when mine is only 2.3 litres as all the M3s were up to 1990 when the Evo became homologated.Yes the red button is radio comms.

Good drive, I was surprised that he wasn't having to work harder, I expected some V8's to blast him on the straight and then he'd have to round them up through the corners.....I thought the problem with the M3 back in "The Old Days" was it only had about 320 hp which is why they had to work so hard, if they had 380 I'm sure that would be a familiar number. But, if he had 380 that will explain why the Group C cars didn't go past.....Still a very good drive, he wasn't holding back, good corner speed.
@davidtowe73018 жыл бұрын
Hi Adrian, the dyno showed 170kw at the rear wheels. I got a good run and managed to pull a lead. It's not often that a V8 beats me around the creek these days. The 635 that Jim was driving can get me in a straight line but didn't get a chance in this race. Thanks for your kind words.
