'The Cubs 2 OSH Story: 75 Years in the Making' - PIPER CUB SHORT FILM

In 2012, a group of J-3 Cub pilots gathered in Hartford, WI (HXF) to celebrate the 75th anniversary of their favorite aircraft before heading north to the largest aviation celebration in the world.
They came from all over the country at 70 miles per hour - these are their stories.
I've been thinking a lot about how making this short airplane film 8 years ago during OSH12 taught me the true magic of Oshkosh (and aviation). This year then, in the spirit of #EAAtogether and Spirit of Aviation Week, it seemed fitting to release 'The Cubs 2 OSH Story: 75 Years in the Making' for free on KZbin for everyone to enjoy.
This film had the distinct honor of playing at the Skyscape Theater at OSH15 (an experience I'll never forget).
If you REALLY liked the film - check out our Patreon as a way to support this channel (this film was released EARLY to them):

In the interest of time, all flying sequences are cut down heavily. That means we had to cut things like running checklists, traffic position reports, and other procedural items from the video.
Also I am not your flight instructor. I don't even pretend to play one on TV. This video is NOT flight instruction - go learn to fly with a great teacher instead (you won't regret it).

I love the guy who answers "up" when asked where he's going. That's literally been my exact answer for nearly two decades whenever I run into people at the airport before a flight. So many people want to know where you're going, where your destination is… Many don't realize that for a lot of us who truly love flying, just getting off the ground we have already reached our destination!!

I learned to fly in a J3 back in 1969. The one I flew was destroyed in a tornado in 1970 and I have a picture of it all wrapped up in a ball of metal tubes and fabric but it's still registered and afaik flying - N6158H. It was blue and white back then but I have a hunch it's probably yellow now.

I bet you are correct that it's yellow! Thank you for sharing - you should go find it!

I learned to fly back in 1969 when I was 15 years old in a J3 Cub. It was later pretty much completely destroyed by a tornado but they rebuilt it and it's still on the registry to this day.

Thank you for letting me relive this amazing event. My father and Steve Krog learned to fly together in college at SDSU. When this happened it was my second summer at HXF being taught to fly by Steve Krog at Cub Air Flight (I worked in the office when we weren't flying). It was a hell of a time for a 16-17 year old. You can catch a brief glimpse of me at 3:40, I'm the one center frame in hi-vis and sunglasses. At 10:43 and 16:26 you can see Dave who took my father (who had been diagnosed with Parkinsons shortly before my mother found out she was pregnant with me) up on the last private fligt of his life in a beautiful Cub. I genuinely had no idea this film existed until now. I congratulate all those who took part in its production and thank you all for reminding me and letting me relive 2 summers of my childhood, along with a lifetime of knowledge thatbI use to this day.

Wow, an incredible film about one of my all-time favorite airplanes. I usually find music annoying, wanting to hear the airplanes, but the score is so perfect on this, and the engine sounds come through beautifully along with it. Congratulations on a great job!

I have never flown a " pure" cub, but have many hours in a Super Cub and many hours in a clipped wing cub. In fact the clipped wing was owned early on by the Cole brothers airshow (called Little Bit), later by Bill Barber. It was Bill's aeroplane when I flew it out of Ann Arbor (ARB).

You must be an old guy like me. Thats old school. Stick in your gut. There is a better way. Carry a little speed & a touch of foward stick at touchdown. Much better rudder control, all points of the landing work cleaner. Hard to put into words. Many years ago I struggled To ease the stick foward however it does work.
