10:43 the crew on the roof of the train was filling up water for the toilet. The water are stored in the water tank on the train roof so the water can flow with gravity to the toilet and the tap. 16:25 That's rigid catenary. The reason why the Yogyakarta station use rigid catenary is because the limited space due to the roof of the platform. Anyway, congrats for the experience of the train. Well done video as expected.

Great trip. Finally your Indonesian adventure is uploaded. The naming scheme in Indonesian Train is unique, and have many references, like Volcano/Mountain, Mythical Animals, Flower, Cities, Historical Kingdom, Temple, And many more. For Kereta Api, yes it's reference coming from Steam Train, but in current time which majority of Indonesian Train using Diesel, in some cases you can still see some Fire coming from locomotive. Looks like it's a sweet snack on the lounge, and yeah for the soft one it's nearly out of stock. For the seating, it's great, and correct me If I wrong, in the past this train labelled as Sleeper Train by Media. Jakarta Metropolitan Area is massive, but it easy to identified, just find where the last time you watched Commuter Line, because Jakarta Metropolitan Area is connected by Commuter Line, and speaking of Commuter Line, the Gondangdia Station is the closest one to Gambir if you want to visit this station. Very interesting video. I’ve travelled a lot on Indonesian trains and mostly found them very good. The main drawback is the limited timetable, presumably because of limited track and platform capacity. So there’s still a need for more investment in the network, much of which still dates from Dutch colonial times. On board catering is also in need of significant upgrading - not, surely, that difficult in a country that has a great culinary tradition.

Believe it or not, this is actually an improvement from what it was before 😂 Locals like me prefer to bring our own food that we buy from the station we depart from and Indonesian Railways Company are okay with it. I wonder why they haven’t invested in a better dining options because I’d definitely buy my meals onboard if the options are not as limited as it is now.

Overhead rails are used in low clearance situations. The pantograph of an electric train has to exert quite a bit of upward pressure on the wires to maintain constant contact, this causes them to flex up. The overhead rails solve this, the wire is still there, it's just embedded in the bottom of the rail. The rail serves as a guide preventing the wire from flexing or moving. In low clearance situations where the contact wire needs to be physically closer to the train and the pantograph needs to compress, overhead rails are used for their increased rigidity and strength, forcing the pantograph springs to compress while maintaining constant contact. The reason why they're not used more widely is since they are physically larger and denser than the wires, they causes increased electrical impedance which can cause a decrease in current, voltage, or both.
@lzh49508 ай бұрын
Yeah I read that at higher voltages like 25kV there might be problems due to overhead rails being thicker than wires. However they are more rigid & less likely to loosen/break/get entangled with pantographs & other things
@RicciChoi11099 ай бұрын
3:35 Fun fact: KAI buys a lot of retired Japanese trainsets for their commuter services in Jakarta because the network consists of 1067mm rail gauge and 1500V DC electrification, which is the same as a large portion of railway lines in Japan. That's why you'll see some famous trainsets like the JNR/JR East 205-0 series (from Yamanote Line and Saikyo Line), Tokyu 8000 series (from Tokyu Toyoko Line and Oimachi Line), as well as TRTA/Tokyo Metro 6000 series (from Chiyoda Line) running in Jakarta. And KAI retained a lot of markings in Japanese with only the essential systems being labelled in Indonesian language. For example, you'll see a P|SN mark on the side of a 205-0 series, which stands for the trainset is equipped with ATS-P (protection by both wayside colour light signals and brake curve calculated by onboard transponder) and ATS-SN (roughly equivalent to Network Rail AWS) train protection systems during their original service in Japan.

The attendant standing on the roof of the train is filling water for the toilets, they do this to ensure the toilets don't run out of water. Argo means mountain, but in the context of the train the word Argo was chosen to symbolise a peak / highest caste. Dwipangga is indeed derived from the name of a legendary elephant, the location of this elephant is on the Gajahwonh River and this river passes east of Yogyakarta Station. So indeed the name Argo Dwipangga sounds meaningless at first glance, but if studied further Argo Dwipangga means the Highest Caste Train to Yogyakarta. In addition to DwiPangga, every train with the name Argo is always followed by the name of a mountain in the area around the railway line. For example, Argo Pharayangan to Bandung in the Bandung area there is Mount Pharayangan, and Argo Bromo to Surabaya in the south of Surabaya there is Mount Bromo.

Finally! I’ve been waiting for your Indonesian series, even though our current train service isn’t perfect, cause we’re still a developing nation, but we’re super grateful for the drastic and better changes throughout the years. Looking back when i was in elementary school, the train situation back then was super duper chaotic. Please try the compartment suites train as well, that’s the brand new flagship luxury train in Indonesia. Enjoy your trip! Greetings from Yogyakarta

Yea, that food is really crappy for what the tickets worth ngl. The foods you can order are decent enough tho. 16:08 .....and there's Taksaka, the golden goose (ish, the highest occupancy of executive class+) who take the naming convention, beat it to a pulp, and throw it out the window.

Welcome back! And congratulations on reaching 100K subscribers. This calls for a little celebration. 🥳 Now back on topic - KAI Executive product, IMO, is superior to what you get in Business Class (in an aeroplane), though they were expensive. I'm not sure why "Elephant Mountain" is the name of this train (which makes no sense), but I know that KAI has a consistent naming scheme for its luxury train services. Indonesians are vocal about trains (and that's evident in the introduction of the Whoosh HSR service). Hence, people use them to get to their destinations. Hence, Gambir is so small in Indonesian long-distance standards. The new and improved Manggarai station can't come soon enough.

16:25 overhead rails are favourable to power lines because they're more durable, though they're usually reserved for tunnelled sections (MRT Jakarta, Sofia Metro's newest line) to minimise exposure to the elements, which could cause the rails to expand in hotter environments. They're there to power the commuter trains between Yogyakarta, Solo, and a few intermediate stops

Oh no, you chose the Luxury Class with the oldest type which has been in operation for more than 5 years. That one was Luxury class gen-1 which is planned to be decommissioned in the next few years. The newer after this generation is the Luxury Class gen-2 with a 1-1 seating configuration with vantage style privacy partition. The newest variants of Luxury Class are Panoramic and gen-3 (with automatic reclining mechanism and full electronic doors. Thanks God, the development of railways in Indonesia is not only improving once a year but in a matter of months there are always surprises with new innovations. Thanks for the video exploration Indonesian trains and information.

The only downside of Indonesia normal train is the loudness of the train wheels on the track, because it uses old train track system since the colonial era until now. Sometimes you need to shouts when talking inside the train especially when you are in the connectors areas

I think because they've got some of their rollingstock from Japan, it seems they've also adopted some of the uniform styles and mannerism of Japanese railways. I have seen some footage of some operations where the drivers would emulate the point and check ways in Japan.
