I wish they made Nepros Line in an industrial finish. That chromw gets scratched up in no time under heavy use. A big part if it is America judges tool quality by a hand tools mirror chrome polish.
@chriscas-ToolAficionado2 жыл бұрын
You're not wrong with that last statement. In general, North American hand tool buyers expect the high polished look....like a prerequisite for a high quality tool. Nepros took it a couple notches up and set the bar high for creating the most mirror-like finish on a hand tool. In comparison to some other brands, cheap/expensive, domestic/imported, I find their chrome to be less prone to scratching.

@wachinstuf2 жыл бұрын
I like their ratchets but haven’t tried other tools - do you think their sockets are better than Koken zeal? I like the tighter fit of the Koken line. I’ll likely pick up some of their wrenches but not sure if there’s a reason to pick up sockets when I have Koken Zeals. Curious to hear your thoughts
@chriscas-ToolAficionado Жыл бұрын
Perhaps you've already experienced this yourself where the tight tolerance of the Zeal sockets can be a bit of an annoyance. If working on older vehicles, vehicles in the rust belt, or just generally crusty fastener from rust or even undercoating, you might be fighting to get that socket to fit the fastener head. I place the Zeal sockets as a specialty socket for this reason and that's why you should consider having a set of standard sockets from your manufacturer of choice.

Chris...is the black grip ring on the socket plastic or a rubber-like compound?
@chriscas-ToolAficionado2 жыл бұрын
They are some kind of an elastomer. I once let a socket sit inside a parts washer, submerged in solvent, and the ring swelled. I don't remember whether it reverted back to its original shape (it was a decade ago)...but yeah, avoid harsh solvents 😄 .
@chriscas-ToolAficionado2 жыл бұрын
I should also add that if the socket gets filthy with oil or coolant, and it seeps past the grip rings, they effectively become grip-less rings. 😅

I find my 1/4" wera wobble extension irritating to use because it doesn't stay in the locked setting. I might need to replace it with a nepros extension.
@chriscas-ToolAficionado2 жыл бұрын
That's interesting. Wera doesn't offer a wobble + type extension; their's are dedicated wobble types. So, despite that, the Wera sockets you're using go into "lock" mode on their wobble only extension?
@seano512 жыл бұрын
@@chriscas-ToolAficionado Part 8794A and yes it wobbles and locks in. But I'm going to have to correct my original post because the issue is that it doesn't stay in the locked position. It pops out into the wobble mode too easily.
@chriscas-ToolAficionado2 жыл бұрын
@@seano51 since I don't own one I'm going by what they mention in their catalog. Looking at the photos again, and since there's no mention of a locking feature, it's no surprise that what you're experiencing seems normal. Wera's 8794A is a standard wobble. Wobble-plus (or Wobble-fix, which Ko-ken invented) has the dual function feature.

Interesting details about the wobble extensions. Perhaps they don't brag about the dual balls to keep a lower profile against copycats. Is the incompatibility with other brands of sockets meant to encourage buying their whole line?
@chriscas-ToolAficionado2 жыл бұрын
Regarding incompatibility, its been most apparent with Ko-ken's Z-series items. I'm talking about having the most reliable connections between sockets/extensions/accessories.

Nepros tools are beautifully made and finished, but they underperform as far as the tool itself is concerned. They do not hold up and are overpriced for what they are. Do they have beautiful chroming? Absolutely! Are they an above average tool? Again, absolutely! They do not hold up though, the ratchets are very chunky, and the back drag is ok. Koken smokes nepros in every conceivable way except chroming, but chroming doesn't make a tool a great tool. These are display pieces, not a working mans tool.
@chriscas-ToolAficionadoАй бұрын
@victorhoyt4352 thanks for your perspective. I suppose I differ from many out there, but I really enjoy working with Nepros tools. I have a full set of 3/8sq sockets, extentions, accesories and a few wrenches that I bought in 2010 that continue to work flawlessly. I will say, though, that the rubber rings on the sockets are gimmicky and don't belong in a shop environment.

@chriscas-ToolAficionado I'm glad that they have worked out so well for you! I didn't have the same experience and ran into issue after issue with them. In my personal opinion, they are just pretty tools. Obviously, they are functional, and aren't complete trash, but Koken is a much better tool company. Koken is a perfect balance between sleekness, functionality, and durability. They aren't as shiny as nepros, but shininess isn't a priority when looking for a great tool. Koken just does it better. Obviously, no tool brand or particular tool is perfect though.
