1:45. Ray's such a legend, listen to that groove the second he starts walking! And hitting a #11 on beat 2 of the top of the form is GENIUS. Swiped.

The best bass players strive to project enough that they don't need amps- there is no amp that doesn't screw with the beautiful sound of the upright bass. These guys do an amazing job- the fact that they cut through so well given the crappy KZbin sound recording quality is incredible.

What a great recording! Does anybody know why Clayton and Christian McBride were chuckling during Ray Brown's solo at 5:40? Did he quote something in particular?
@lurchamok81377 жыл бұрын
I think it wasn't out of time they (mainly McBride) were confused beause Ray played some quarternote triplets in between his eighth notes. Anyway, for me it also has to do with time.

I don't get it because there is an Organist but sound is clearly not that of an Organ walking bass. It's an upright bass tone for sure. John Clayton appears to be the band leader but none of the 3 are walking during the big band kicks. If John is the band leader, there sure wouldn't be an Organ walking bass most of the time. Anyone know the story on this?

@SexOverThePhone1 the group is called Superbass. the song is called "Blue Monk" and this is much older than the song ur talking about. im just guessing that this isnt ur prefered type of music. thats ok. Nicki Minaj isnt really my thing. and thats ok too. so please dont go and judge just because this isnt what ur into. just because u dont like it doesnt mean it sucks.

These people are really super skilled and the double bass is a great instrument but It seems like the instrument needs some electrical help. Amplification or modification of some kind. All the plucking when high becomes really muted and messy.
