Spec Ops: The Line. Third person shooter, XBox 360 and PS3. I know this is just someone on the internet telling you this, but you're best going in with as little spoiled as possible. The general set up is that during the US - Middle East wars, a US battalion is returning home passing through Dubai. As they are, an incredibly destructive sandstorm descends on the city, endangering the population as their communication and supply line is severed from the outside world. This battalion is told to evacuate while they can, but they refuse and instead stay behind to help the civilians. Months go by with no communication penetrating the on-going sandstorm. The US sends in members of the CIA to investigate, but they also fail to return with no communication. Finally, a message pierces the wall, playing out from Dubai. The leader of the US battalion reports total failure, with a death count "too high." You and two other specialist soldiers are sent in to make contact and report back on what happened to "The Damned 33rd."

Notice how Pat said it’s the most amazing voice acting performance HE’S ever heard in any game ever 3:09:38. A subjective opinion, he doesn’t state it as a fact. And then Matt here goes “I don’t think it is”. Look…I know the meme is ooooh Pat is rude blah blah he has no soul, but Matt just stepped on his subjective opinion, for one. For two, it makes me wonder what does Matt think is a good performance. For three, it makes me wonder why it never became a meme that Matt has no soul, with all the times Matt mocked Pat for being emotional at a game (The Walking Dead Season One). I wish Woolie and Pat were the ones who played this back then.

I have no source apart from outward info, but I believe the core part of their breakdown wad the main "characters" for the channel being Matt and Pat, who worked together at the start out if convince. It was supposed to be Matt and Woolie, but Woolie was too busy with his game testing job. As such, Matt and Pat joined forces. Apart from this, and this is speculation based on what they focused on post-split, I believe they they had different interests and desires for content that they couldn't pursue together on TBFP/SBFP. Matt seems to have wanted to pursue more creative and refined content (much like JonTron leaving Game Grumps), Pat wanted to get into streaming (he was always a huge fan of fan/community interaction), and Woolie seemed to want to stay the course for the traditional LP content (see WoolieVS). By separating, though hard for fans, they were able to pursue their own passions and be much happier as a result. So... silver linings 😅

Hey, wait a minute, is the phrase, “There was a hole here, it’s gone now.” A reference to James’ personal guilt around his sexualization of women? Like, it’s referring to Mary as “the hole” and it “being gone” is her death, and considering there are already themes in the game of James dealing with his own sexual urges maybe it’s not too far off? Idk.
@Greendawn-di3dl Жыл бұрын
Just about everything has some sorta meaning, most are left vague for the player to fill in the blanks. In this case that seems very likely; or it's just a metaphorical hole in James himself, and Mary "passing" fills the hole James had, or silent hill forces him to come to terms.

Honestly I'm not really a big fan of the in water ending. Well, I think it's a good ending, but I don't think it's very like, good when it comes to the themes of Silent Hill 2, about dealing with past trauma, and guilt. I think James being overcome with guilt doesn't really feel thematically resonant when he abandons the girl who mary wanted to adopt.

Pat did mention in the podcast when Woolie finished the game that the endings he feel most appropriate to him change based on where he is in life. Back as a kid, in the water was one he felt right. As an adult now, I don’t remember if he was married yet or not but we know he’s been with Paige for years (and now has a kid) the ending where James leaves the town alive (not with Maria) is the one he feels is most appropriate to him.

Sure, the Red Pyramid isn't exclusive to James, but the use of him outside of 2 just feels flaccid. Dead By Daylight gets a pass since they _try_ to explain why he is there and it's mostly just a gallery of the best of the horror genre
@Postaldude__ Жыл бұрын
You kinda got it wrong. Yes. There are paintings of him as an executioner, but that doesn’t mean he’s not exclusive to James. He is. Silent hill just manifested him as a form of punishment and guilt and you know, and an executioner is really good at..well..punishment. So it manifested as a grotesque version of that. It’s just that the silent hill executioner on the paintings wasn’t necessarily dreamt up by James, that was a real thing at some point as indicated by the historical society. The version he sees though? The invincible massively huge bloody rusty one that moves freakishly and inhumanly with a giant sword meant to indicate heavy guilt? That is a manifestation of James and James only and that was done really well, so when it’s done in any other way it’s just lame. I guess they have a reason to maybe have him around since there’s lore surrounding him besides James but what’s the fucking point, it’s HIS thing. And he’s surely seen that painting before seeing as he visited SH previously with Mary, he saw that painting of PH and in some way it stuck with him and that’s why it manifested that way. Also, there is ONE other note mentioning the Red Devil iirc. It’s the Walter Sullivan one outside of the apartment complex, and come on. Lots of shit is red in the silent hill universe lmfao. Correct me if I’m wrong on the amount of notes though. Hope I explained it okay. What you’re saying is kinda like saying is because other sexy nurses exist outside of James’ psyche they’re not a part of his psyche anymore. it’s his interpretation of traumas and guilt and in that way it’s still very much James’ own personal demon
