Megatron has a somewhat understandable motivation brough up in...comics I think? Basically- Cybertron was originally a SUPER caste based system (cause he- robots made by the planet for specific jobs). But they have human like minds, so that sucked, obviously. Megatron was a super charismatic gladiator that was forced to kill friends (so the suffering of the caste system was VERY personal; also makes perfect sense with the character), Optimus was a librarian who was all "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" and filled with sympathy over the situation. So they set out to argue to the noble cast to cahnge things, and they were given a quest- and at the end Optimus was given prime (noble) status. Optimus wanted to use his new role to change things...Megatron thought he was sold out and betrayed by Optimus. So he got super butt hurt and decided to just get all of the dissatisfied masses and say "You know what guys? Thus sucks- lets rip off our chains and TAKE WHAT WE WANT FOR OURSELVES". So that is super interesting- Megatron is a fallen hero, consumed with the pain of old wounds and the jealousy that originally brought him to seek justice. And he still thinks he serves justice- he believes that, rather than being bound by arbitrary morals and codes, the world should be ruled by those willing to grasp their destiny with their own hands.

Which, when it comes from a developer like Platinum, who has made some of the best action games ever, is more of an insult than a compliment. I don't know, it just felt very limited, not as smooth, not well written, not as replayable, and short, even for a Platinum game. And I get that the last one can sort of be written off by the price, but the other points are still valid. It's still decent, but I have high expectations from Platinum, and that's the first time they weren't met. Then Woolie and Liam go "No, it's awesome, reviewers just don't get character-action games," even though Bayonetta 2 had just come out to universal critical acclaim.

Megatron now adays actually has a backstory for his evil. He was the greatest gladiator ever to fight in Cyberton's fighting pits. He and a librarian named Orion Pax (who would become Optimus) were part of a movement to stop the harsh and outdated classism/social casting of the Cybertronian society, but when they kept failing to do so through words and law, Megatron took action and because of his fame as a gladiator became the figurehead of the movement as it turned a violent one and eventually became the Decepticons.
