1:00 for further context, it had an issue where it was loosing spark or the spark was weak atleast n that was part of the initial prompt to take it to the dealership along with the running issues, yada, yada.. It was a while back I don't remember the full details.. Used to be a reputable dealer but they really did us wrong on this one so it's great to see someone treating it with the respect it deserves. Bravo 👏 (My dad's bike)

I'm surprised most people aren't aware of or don't use the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Chapter 4 deals with services. If more people were aware of chapter 4's basic content, most dealers wouldn't try ripping us off so much. One part (sec 49, (1)) defines the trader "must perform the service with reasonable care and skill" Services should also be supplied within a reasonable time, unless a time scale is specified (due to trader informing you). It doesn't look like much care and skill was lavished on that bike prior to you receiving it 🤔

good work Jim, those carbs are a mess, you may want to ask the customer how many other folk have had their big clumsy mitts on the bike. to get the best from our ultrasonic i use a syringe and while the carb is under water jet as much fluid into as many holes as i can, surprised how many air bubbles come out. As you say not the complete answer. Plenty carb cleaner and air then more carb cleaner. Ultrasonic tank good for external clean after a scrub down with stale fuel or diesel.

Great video. I had similar problem with the diaphragms and sliders on a 535 Virago. Very similar carbs. I’m sure the diaphragms weren’t that expensive. Bought mine from NRP Carbs. I glued the diaphragm plastic inner to the slider and that sorted it. Pity my son then wrote the bike off! I have another one in the garage that I’m rebuilding. Long term project.

Nice job, once again you’re gonna fix it 💪🏻🛠🏍️. I bought a ‘97 V-Max from my uncle, was standing still for 7 years. Also had blocked pilot jets due to corrosion

It's an absolute farce that dealership would not do the simple tests to quickly point out the fuelling issues. To fix this bike is literally a carbs rebuild/refresh. Anybody who works on older bikes would get those conclusions quickly. I just cannot believe that dealer would opt straight away for a new ECU, what a travesty that dealer is ! You should make all viewers aware what dealership this was because this bike's case is an absolute robbery on the poor owner..

Would be a small claims court case for me. They didn't fix the problem and still had the cheek to give a bill.
@mickeymouse48978 ай бұрын
Dealerships, both car & bike alike are trapped by not being able to return electrical components, hence if they wrongly diagnose an electrical fault, order in a high value part, as in this case an ECU, they can't send it back if it proves to not be a fix. Dealerships should always speak to the customer prior to ordering any parts in, if they can't 100% say the ECU is goosed, they've no business billing the customer for a missed diagnosed job, unless the customer has given consent to accept the bill regardess. This is correct process laid down in "Terms & Conditions" of a dealerships working practice. Customer has a valid claim to go direct to Yamaha & demand a full refund for any money paid. I've worked for Honda for 30+ yrs, so I know first hand how it should done.

Like the Bearded Mechanic says, "There's mechanics, and then there's parts replacers." Had a main dealer quote me £2k to strip down the EGR system and shot blast it with almond husks to clean it in order to clear a fault code, when I knew a 30 minute blast at 70 mph on the M4 would do just as well.

If they had just come straight to you they'd probably have saved themselves a good coupla-hundy. Another great vlog & "How too" diag a misfire. Agreed it's defo a carb issue, you follow the same methodical diagnostic path as I do. I also agree Ultra-sonic cleaning is not the be all & end all of carb cleaning, it's just one process to use if required & I appreciate you won't share the carb cleaning solvent you use, but I've had awesome results with HOLTS EGR CLEANER, dissolves external & internal corrosion. Look forward to the next vlog.

I’ve had reasonable success (50%)draining the carbs ,pulling the diaphragms and hitting the pilot air drilling inside with a focused blast of compressed air. Then refilling and draining the carbs. Bit of a bodge but saves A LOT of time and aggro with yam V4s.

Sadly says it all …it’s not just main dealers but many so called techs these days are just fitters , if they can’t cure it by fitting new parts they are scratching their heads . To us old school techs this is basic diagnostic fault finding , a process of elimination. I worked in the marine /outboard industry as a independent and would often get engines after a customer had spent thousands at a dealer and still had faults , I don’t get that because A I would never charge a penny in parts or labour if I couldn’t fix a problem , it’s unethical and I think should be illegal , the customer pays for your knowledge not for u to throw parts at the problem. Any idiot can do that !

@@SuperbikeSurgeryTV oddly enough I've seen very similar issue with a virargo 250 that came into my workshop about ten years ago, rubbers crushed in the carbs and damage to the sliders, it had been to a different shop which had given up. Didn't say much about the other shop. I did the job with the owner watching, don't normally but I liked the bloke and he wanted to learn. So I basically charged him a lower rate and went through the job step by step teaching him at the same time. I enjoyed it but would only do that for a very select few as you know that concentration is key and you don't want to screw it up. Worst carbs I ever dealt with were on my old XZ550, they were downdraft and known to be an issue.

I'd have charged a higher rate, not a lower one!😂 I know what you mean. Some customers are easier to have around than others!
@TheMagicalwill8 ай бұрын
@@SuperbikeSurgeryTV lower rate, longer job worked out the same in the end. I believe an owner that can at least do the basics is a better customer than one that has zero idea, the zero idea types tend to Google it and say that famous " I watched it, doesn't take long". Then they wonder why you have a five hour labour bill due to all the rust nuts,bolts,gasket removal and testing. I expect you've had your moments with a few. Only ever sent one bloke away which wasn't bad tbh.
