Replacing Laptop Battery Cells

Hi, in this video i have shown how i have replaced my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop battery pack cells with newer ones. the new cells are of higher capacity and provide a longer runtime to the laptop.

after welding the cells together, i soldered the battery circuit to the cells, placed the cells inside the battery casing, and closed the casing tightly.
insert the battery into the laptop and charge the laptop for atleast 4 hours before using for the first time.
once completely charged, the laptop can now be used normally. the laptop now gives a better backup of about 3 hours compared to the 1.5-2 hours of the original battery, thus the project is a success

Try it out! A couple practice runs, and you can do it for sure. Soldering like this is a bit trickier with things being smaller, but a good place to start learning is on copper plumbing pipe. It's a great skill to attain! 👊

Changing the cells is easy. The hard part is to make windows accept the battery after the cell exchange

He did not show that part. as far as i know, you need to refresh BMS cycle count and calibrate voltage/ capacity of battery for optimum use.

@@daveosawaru9509 i have seen a guy doing it at his laptop battery repsir shop. using parallel port to connect to battery and uses a battery software to manage all the parameters of the battery like resetting cycle count, monitoring voltages of individual cell banks etc

Use non branded battery for cheap. And replace cells. It will work.

Putting 10 high power welds on a cell in 5 seconds is gonna cook the insides, you know you can always just wait in between cells, I usually just tack them on then come back to each cell once I've let it cool down to minimize damage

if you use a high power spot welder (the size of the tool can be twice as in the video), you can spot welding with fewer spot (and the spot also bigger).. so, it can minimizing heat.. but in the video, the spot just "too small", so no wonder if he spot welding with many spot on the batteries..

all the DIY Battery people are fake, it does not work like that, the moment you take the battery board out of batteries it gets locked, even after replacing with new batteries it will not work.

What if you have a battery with a micro-controller and it's still not recognizing the battery after replacing the cells?

yes you can as long as the voltage is around the same. The problem though is this doesn't work, and if it does your laptop will show ZERO or a random % number and will never tell you how much it's charged. You have to reset/reprogram the chip which acts as a controller inside of the battery, you can't just put new cells in.

I checked with a spare laptop battery made in China, and like many other equipment made in China, they are nor done to be later maintained, there is no protuberant area to open the battery, everything is flat and soldered, you have to destroy it to open it. Better explain how to build a laptop battery from scratch.

@@prinzzee419 There is an EPROM in laptop batteries. When any of the battery cells are damaged, the EPROM shuts itself down and cannot be turned on again. That's why. Repairing batteries with EPROM is very expensive. As you said, take out the damaged cell, put in a new battery and let it finish. There is no such thing, master. There is no need to prepare a video for batteries WITHOUT EPROM. It is like changing the battery of a flashlight. Thank you.

This applies to original batteries but not necessarily alternative/china batteries as their BMS are sometimes more universal. Always check with the seller first.
