The reason the "Flammel made the Mirror" theory cracks me up is because there was literally a piece of evidence that would have actually given it at least a little ground- Harry got the Philosophers Stone from the Mirror: maybe the reason he was able to do that was because the Mirror was made in conjunction with the Stone. Even that theory doesn't have a whole lot of evidence to it, but it's better than "He made one cool thing, what if he made a completely different cool thing?"
@venceslavgeorgiev22956 ай бұрын
I actually think the theory is pretty good, conceptionally. Just imagining a lone man, who achieved immortality to realise that everyone and everything important to him is aging and dieing, but he alone remains, and in a desperate attempt to find a reason to continue his life, he creates a mirror that can show someone's deepest desires, is so good.

Also, Flamel was French, so it wouldn't be called the Mirror of Erised, it would be the Mirror of Rised (with an accent over the 'e').

Not an animagus. A Maledictus. Regulus didn't order Kreacher to leave him to the inferi in the cave. He ordered Kreacher to tell people that that was his fate. In reality, he turned into Crookshanks forever and knew he was changing all along. This is why he never changes back and also why Sirius never actually knows that Crookshanks is his brother. He really meant to try to destroy the locket but changed into Crookshanks before he could accomplish his goal. Then cozied up to Hermione so that he could help guide the trio along the way. ChatGPT knows all even if it makes a slight mistake.

@catherineginn32326 ай бұрын
Funnily enough, there actually is a Harry Potter fanfiction featuring an integral plot point that Regulus Black was an unregistered, unknown animagus - but rather than being Crookshanks, he was Buckbeak. They connect this to Sirius being an animagus because, through observation, Regulus figured out that Sirius was preparing to undergo his first animagus transformation and, after some researching during which he discovered that legilimancy doesn’t work on wixen in their animagus form, which was particularly appealing because Regulus was already questioning his parents’ allegiance to blood purity and Voldemort and trying to find a way to break away without risking getting caught. Their animagus forms are also connected by the fact that both - a grim (Sirius) and a hippogriff (Regulus as Buckbeak) - are magical creatures.

What If Idea: What If Harry actually used the Pensive Highlights include but are not limited to: Voldemorts return, The Dementor Attack (Dumbledore to defend him), to Prove Peter Pettegrew is still alive There are multiple points where very shortly after a situation where Harry's word is ignored the Pensive would prove that Harry remembers it happening and you would not expect a 13 to 15 year old to be able to modify their memory on the fly mere minutes to few hours later without leaving marks of modifications
@riluna36956 ай бұрын
I'm for it. And yeah, Slughorn had decades and his memory mod was still super splotchy. While they'd certainly try to accuse Harry of tampering with it, it would be a lot harder to deal with than just a "he said, Minister of Magic said" situation.
@rennakahara78516 ай бұрын
While I wholeheartedly think this could have cleared up a lot, there's a few perfectly logical reasons they didn't. One from a story perspective, and one from an author perspective. 1. The pensieve belongs to Hogwarts, and at the time to Dumbledore specifically. In the situations where Harry's story would have been called into question, Fudge did not trust Dumbledore and thus would hesitate to use his pensieve, as Dumbledore could potentially alter the memory. Not that he would, but it's what Fudge might believe. 2. You need to have conflict to tell a story. If they used the pensieve in these scenarios, there would be no conflict in Order of the Phoenix. The Ministry would not see Dumbledore as an enemy, so there's no reason to place Umbridge at Hogwarts, then there's no reason to form the DA. Sometimes you have to sacrifice logic in order to tell a good story, and characters don't always make the best decisions for the same reason.
@riluna36956 ай бұрын
@@rennakahara7851 Agreed on both points, though as a writer I do have a small gripe with one line. I don't believe it's ever mandatory to sacrifice logic for the sake of a story. While a good story can still have such holes, avoiding them with careful writing is absolutely possible. One issue that comes up often, as is the case here, is "why did the characters not use [blank] to solve the problem?" (which gets especially rough for soft-magic stories that spread out everywhere like with this series). If you see one of these coming, and you can't allow them to use it for the sake of the story, then you need to actively cut it off from them in some way. A character might even directly reference wanting to do it that way, but something comes up to ruin it. And a personal favorite of mine: In a fight between two characters, you know which one has to lose. But rather than having them do something dumb to leave themselves open (unless it's thematically relevant), focus on making the character who wins earn it by being more clever and cirumventing whatever defenses or tactics their opponent may have. In other words: Don't make the losing character be dumb, make the winning character be smart. Sorry to go off on a rant, but I like writing and I LOVE really _good_ writing. So here's some free advice for anyone interested, that's all.
@aceofspades95036 ай бұрын
I have nothing to back the idea, but I've always felt that Dumbledore wanted to keep the abilities of the Pensive quiet. Its a powerful magical artifact with mysterious origins that connect back to the school grounds. Ancient schools of mystic orders are known for wanting to keep their secrets, so I would think it would be unlikely for any Hogwarts Headmaster to have shared any information about any artifacts in their collection, if they could help it. So odds are, the Ministry didn't even know about it.

Don’t be so quick to equate all cats as being bad in water. While Crookshanks is referred to as ‘Hermione’s cat’ let’s not forget that Crookshanks is actually half Kneazle. I don’t pretend to know what that might encompass but I do know certain big cat breeds like tigers and jaguars are quite adept in water. It’s possible that Crookshanks, a half Kneazle, (referred to by HP himself as either a very big cat or quite the small tiger) is skilled in the water. I agree with you of course that RAB is not Crookshanks but still fun to spin the potential details.

At the absolute most, it'd be a measure of last resort that Dumbledore might say something like "if the worst happens and he asks you to step aside, you protecting Harry anyway will protect him better than you think". As much as it's emotionally appealing (like REALLY appealing) to think that Lily knew she was actually saving her son and didn't just think he was gonna die five seconds after she did, I don't think I can really accept this one. It's the kind of thing that if the author had intended it, it'd have to be shown or hinted at, because there's no way to deduce it from what we got.

I actually have my own theory that i think has some merit but is super weirdly specific... Harry's horcrux was not an accident... Voldemort turning to a puff of sentient smoke of sorts after that point was almost part of his grand plan. Ya see this stems from the fact he always aimed to split his soul 7 times... I don't think it was out of luck but out of necessity to perform a spell inwhich he believed he could conquer death. He planned to Drag God into his bones like Father from Full Metal Alchemist. The fragments of his soul was his Sins and Virtues. Its why he couldn't grasp love in the slightest not because he was born of a love potion and had a broken upbringing thats why he feared death. He lost his ability to Love and Lust creating the Locket. The first thing he shed was his Pride placed inside the Diary. The last to go was his Greed and he finally achieved a half life renouncing all worldly pleasures all he would need to complete this plan... is a philosopher stone. I mean if being returned to life was his Goal he could of snatched Harry while he rode Quirels head when they first met... Harry litteraly knew no magic. Also something rather silly about the premise of the Horcrux which makes very little sense. If the Horcrux is designed to restore the person... why is Harry still a Horcrux when Voldemort is brought back with his blood?

So with regards to the scar theory... yeah, it's bunk. But at the same time, it feels like one that with some more iterations could have come out as something actually functional. Not one about there being a second piece of Voldemort in Harry, but where that piece was in Harry. Sure, the scar was the mark of that connection, but what if it was more than that, and the actual place the fragment of Voldemort's soul survived? Could you just remove the horcrux from Harry at this point with plastic surgery? Just... remove that bit of flesh tainted by dark magic and use healing arts, magical or muggle, to repair the hole created in it's removal? This is one that, while I don't feel is a strong theory, feels poetic. Part of the final downfall of Voldemort is through the practices not of good witches and wizards, but through the skillful artisanry of the very mundane people he was trying to put beneath the magical world. A simple thing that could have been protected against had Voldemort considered muggles to even have the potential to be a threat, but due to Voldemort being Voldemort, he could not see as an issue.

Hermione would have been warned because "To own a Kneazle, there is a licence needed because their appearance is unusual to Muggles." Crookshanks had a lot of characteristics of a kneazle, in that he had to like his owner and could lead them home. He was also very intelligent and could be very agressive... which is why he wasn't adopted. Besides, the wiki says, "Crookshanks was a half-Kneazle, half-cat who was adopted by Hermione Granger."

I almost convinced chatgpt that Dumbledore understand parseltongue. I asked it if he knew it, it said no, then i said that Dumbledore doesn't ask harry to translate what the Gaunt's are saying to each other in the memories, implying Dumbledore understood it and chatgpt agreed that it was possible. Next time I asked it about it, it was more unsure of itself, saying something like "Dumbledore isn't known to speak parseltongue, but it seems he has some understanding of it" By the way, my personal canon is that Dumbledore learned a bit of parseltongue from morfin in Azkaban, at the same time he got his memories.

Am I the only one who is surprised that it didn't come up with a theory that Albus was setting up Voldemort because he had his own plans for world domination and wanted him out of the way?

Theory: Dumbledore created the Deluminator to travel through the Mirror of Erised. Sometime after Dumbledore acquired the mirror, in his obsession, he created the deluminator to navigate to the person he most desired. His family, whole and complete.

Or maybe Fred and George weren't identical twins but wanted to be, and George started taking polyjuice. Also, Merope probably went to the Ministry for magic lessons and became a qualified witch that way, after she recovered from the PTSD a bit and got better control of her powers.

Here’s an intriguing theory: What if Dumbledore intentionally allowed certain events to unfold in order to manipulate Harry Potter's journey and ultimately defeat Voldemort? This theory suggests that Dumbledore, with his deep understanding of prophecies and his knowledge of Voldemort's weaknesses, orchestrated key moments in Harry's life. For example: The Prophecy: Dumbledore knew about the prophecy concerning Harry and Voldemort. He might have subtly guided events to ensure Harry's survival and Voldemort's downfall, knowing that Harry had a crucial role to play. Leaving Harry with the Dursleys: Dumbledore might have placed Harry with the Dursleys not only for his physical safety but also to mold him into a humble and resilient person, qualities necessary to face Voldemort. Triwizard Tournament: Dumbledore allowed Harry to compete in the dangerous Triwizard Tournament, knowing it would strengthen Harry's skills and prepare him for the challenges ahead. Hallows vs. Horcruxes: Dumbledore's quest for the Deathly Hallows could have been a strategic move to distract Voldemort and lure him into a false sense of security while Harry focused on destroying Horcruxes. The Elder Wand: Dumbledore’s plan to have the Elder Wand’s allegiance die with him could have been calculated to prevent Voldemort from becoming its master and thereby weakening him in their final confrontation. This theory posits that Dumbledore's seemingly cryptic decisions and occasional withholding of information were part of a larger plan to guide Harry towards victory, ensuring that Voldemort's defeat was not just a matter of luck or fate, but the result of careful manipulation and strategic planning.
