Dr.Strange not winning but still saving the day is kind of a staple of his MCu version though, right? @Latest Obsession You got me brain storming, so I'll take a stab at it. "The weird thing about all this is, why doesn’t she just create the hex again so she can bring back her boys when she can seemly do just about anything she can think of?" I haven't watched the show, but I have heard about it and seen some scenes, and I'm pretty sure the hexed town was discoverable and interfered with by the outside. Also she was being tricked by Agatha, and it's harder to trick yourself when you're creating the façade. Especially after you've learned there are real versions in other universes, no point in settling for fake when you can have the real thing. "Additionally why isn’t she able to open a portal herself??" It's not in her power set. And portals to where? Not even Doctor Strange can open portals to other universes. But she seems to have no issue being able to travel quickly, so she doesn't really need 'em anyway. She did use a mirror like a portal once in the movie. "Also why not choose a multiverse where her boys exist and that version of Wanda has died so she isn’t needing to kill anyone???" She probably doesn't die while her boys are still children in any universe in which she had children. She may only die some time after they've fully grown in every universe. And since she's not a time traveler, she can't choose when, she can only choose where. "Finally why not just ask America Chavez to find that place for her????" She said why she wanted the power for herself in the movie. Just having America do it for her would not give her any future safety net. Also, the dark hold had hold of her, and it makes those it has a hold on, crave more power. People that crave something usually take it if they have the power to, instead of asking and potentially being told "No!", in which case she'd be back at taking it by force, so why bother wasting time asking.

The darkhold was written for Wanda to bring her to her most powerful form. The Scarlet Witch was “created” by Cthon to be his way into this reality. All versions of Wanda have the power to be the Scarlet Witch and the Darkhold allows Cthon to take over who ever uses it. Mt. Wundergore is where the veil is the thinnest and Cthon granted “Wanda” his chaos magic and drew her to the darkhold so she would take over everything including the Multiverse, go to Wundergore so she could eventually free him. The darkhold is a copy of the power of Mt. wundergore. So every multiverse with a Wanda, has a darkhold copy to temp her into giving in. The reason there was only one book of Vishanti was because there is ONLY one America Chavez. She is natures answer to the fearsome power of the Scarlet Witch. Her opposite! The ying to her yang. Dr. Strange watched so many versions of him fail to SAVE America Chavez which is why he realized she is the tool, not necessarily her power. America shows Wanda her heart and Cthon’s hold on her wasn’t powerful enough yet to let her see what she had become with Cthons power and chose to destroy it.

For some reason, this felt more comic book-like than any MCU before, aside from mayyybe Endgame? They just dared to go over the top and stretch your suspension of disbelief further and further, but I am all for this choice. There's more campiness, they're less and less movies and lean in more to the comic book origin of these stories. This movie felt less... played safe. Less blockbuster formula, even with all the action and effects, they felt more like the medium to show of there outlandish characters, powers and beings than to show off the effects themselves. Its like they now are no longer so proud of the cgi, it has become common. If the cgi is the paint and the scene is the painting, it felt like before they were both showing off the quality of the paint and the art of the painting , and now everyone expects the paint to be good, they're just painting with it, and nothing else. Ok, to explain your confusion: All the other wandas we saw in the movie. . . of those wandas, ONLY OUR wanda read from the darkhold (that doesn't mean there aren't others who have as well). The darkhold's purpose is to force the user to have a hunger for power. This in turn makes our wanda more powerful than ANY version of her that HASN'T read from the darkhold (which is supposedly what makes her the scarlet witch). It's also worth mentioning that OUR wanda only ENDED the hex BECAUSE of her fight with the PREVIOUS owner of the darkhold. The hex being what kept her "kids" alive. The movie also seemed to try to link the scarlet witch title with the dark hold. So no, I don't think it's a singularity. It's just that we happened to be from a universe where these elements collided where they didn't in the other universes we saw (or atleast, not on comera anyways). IT COULD BE ARGUED that because the other wandas never had their darkhold event, their hex never ended and they are still in their own House of M storyline.

1) One interesting thing is that the last visible page in the Book of Vishanti before it's destroyed has a star on it, which I think tipped Strange off that he already had exactly what they needed to defeat Wanda, America Chavez. 2) Wanda was dreamwalking while the sorcerer stabbed the book. She had very little awareness/ability to protect the book in our universe while her mind was possessing 838 Wanda. (Remember that Strange needed Christine to guard his body while he dreamwalked)

I think the explanation we’re supposed to go with was when Agatha said that her spell was flawed from the beginning. But yeah, I’m also hoping we get an explanation to why she can’t just like make a new spell, which would seem like the most logical thing to do

i think since her power is “warping” reality as opposed to creating new things she would have to use the bodies of other people and hurt them like she did in wandavision. plus i think she was determined to have her real kids, not just like brainless husks for children

I mean it definitely seems to me like part of her Chaos magic is that she can literally just create matter. She also is very talented at warping things that already exist. But Billy, Tommy, Vision, and her house came from nothing but her mind. It makes sense to me that they were linked to the amalgamation of spells she was casting within the hex, which is why they were bound to it. But I just don’t see why she couldn’t create them again as a single spell that isn’t connected to a hex that is unethical to keep up. Yes, they might be different versions of her kids. But so were the alternate-universe versions that she was trying to kidnap in this very movie. Maybe you could see them as illusions she’s projecting, but I just don’t know what to think about it all because there are conflicting perspectives on what she did. Monica said they were definitely real. Some other people have said they weren’t real. But they do seem to be real and persist outside of a hex in the Illuminati-universe, so who knows.

I don’t think Wanda just didn’t learn anything from Westview, I think she was taken over by the Darhold. When Professor X went into her mind, she was trapped. It wasn’t until she used the darkhold that she was overcome with this evil. Also killing one person to be with your family is objectively better than imprisoning and torturing a whole town. And I doubt she had pity for the sorcerers because not only was she being controlled, but they weren’t helpless like those at Westview.

I justify Captain Marvel's defeat on the basis that the Scarlet Witch somehow depleted her power. I feel a Wanda was treated in a very similar way to Daenerys. Fans of both characters have been nurtured to love and understand each character but then the rug is suddenly pulled from under our feet. If this is what was intended for both I think fans could have still supported and understood them if we actually saw the progression (regression?). I also feel that there is a big issue surrounding women wielding power; Jean Grey, Rogue, Daenerys and now Wanda (plus many others) have all fallen into this madness of de-powering or even outright killing them off. Sam Raimi recently said he didn't really watch WandaVision so while the streaming shows progress a character there is nothing stopping a director from derailing them in order to fit in to the directors narrative and probably explains why the movie felt so disjointed (that, and all the reshoots). I also find it strange how one of the most popular/powerful MCU characters (Wanda) will likely be sidelined until House of Harkness mid 2023/24. I doubt Raimi will be invited back to the mouse house anytime soon.

Sucks to hear he didn't watch the show I'll have to look into that, but I think the storyline makes sense at least in this case. Fear is central theme of the movie and the darkhold preys on those fears, which caused her to go down a dark road, but while she was the villain I felt like they did a really good job of making her sympathetic and someone you wanted to see be happy. and as far as being sidelined the movies are cranking up the power level of their heroes it seems like in this new group of movies and she is already shown to be top dog. It makes sense to put her on the sideline for a bit while everyone at least somewhat catch up. And as far as the women with power thing yeah those cases are true (except for rogue unless I'm unfamiliar with a storyline, but there are also plenty of women with immense power in shows and movies that don't get corrupted, just like there are plenty of both for men. In the same movie where one wanda was corrupted the general consensus is that almost all dr stranges get corrupted so there's that.

Raimi killed it. He didn’t write the script so not seeing Wandavision doesn’t really have that much of an impact on his direction. His direction and cinematography nailed the tone of the characters. Whatever problems you have with the movie they are not coming from Sam Raimi. The producers, writers, and editing team are in charge of the things you brought up. I don’t think Wanda and Daenerys is a fair comparison either. Wanda lost at the end of Wandavision. She put on a brave face for Vision but her problems weren’t resolved at all. Westview added to her grief more than helping her overcome it and the jump to MoM Wanda fills itself in pretty intuitively. Daenerys turned on a dime and all of her changes were completely out of character. Don’t forget all of the time spent with Wanda was feeling bad for her and showing how flawed she is. The MCU has been breaking her down the whole time this isn’t a sudden shift

theory time: The movie was changed. I heard that they shortened the movie by like 30min. At the beginning there was a man asking Strange if there was another way to win against Thanos, later we see a statue and it said under it, that he sacrificed himself, my theory is that originally we were supposed to find out there were 2 possibilities to win in infinity war, one like it happened and another if Strange sacrificed himself. He selfishly chose the other and that's why Wanda hates him in the movie, she would have her children and Vision if not for Strange.That will also explain all the off moments in the movie, they had to change the script or re-shoot and ended with a mess. Imagine, Strange responsible for the Blip, all other Stranges are sacrificing America, and an end duel against a dark wizard and a scarlet witch and at the end he makes the sacrifice he couldn't in infinity war.

The only things that bothered me while watching the movie: - how quickly Kamar-Taj was taken down. Instead of the wizards using these really unique spells, they only seemed to use ones to amplify more mundane, basic ways of fighting. It was as if them being wizards added almost nothing to the fight other than the force field. - how quickly the 4 monsters protecting Wanda were taken out. What was the point of even having them there? - I still don't understand how captain marvel was taken out (maybe I just missed it but) it looked like she just got beaten up, which like fine I guess, but was she not supposed to also be one of the strongest? Captain Carter put up more of a fight than her and she doesn't have super crazy powers. - The Darkhold being destroyed that easily. And if that was the case, how could Wanda just leave the book out like that with no defenses?
@ethanwatson61312 жыл бұрын
-Kamar-Taj has had several heavy hits to their ranks and their sorcerer supreme is the second strongest sorcerer AT BEST(a good bit behind Strange) who spends his time rigging fight club matches -Nothing implied they were any more than acolytes of the Scarlet Witch. Strange and Wong can fodderize non-nexus level demons pretty easily. They were put there to demonstrate the cult of power around Wanda not to be body guards -MCU doesn’t bother too much with power-scaling although she got the most boring death so “Rule of Cool” doesn’t really excuse it here -Magic is weird. The interplay between different incantations/abilities is left to the imagination. Maybe the darkhold isn’t easily destroyed by anything short of the Scarlet Witch

I went into this Dr. strange movie with very little background of the MCU. My extent with the MCU is the three Iron Man Movies, the avengers, age of ultron, Spider-Man homecoming and also Spider-Man far from home. As you can see I have not been watching them strictly to how they were supposed to go or even by release date but by what I found intriguing and I have definitely not watched Wanda Vision. That being said I feel like I kept up very well with the movie. Of course there is the slight hiccup of not knowing characters that were developed in previous movies but I feel like the actors, writer, crew, etc. did a very good job of explaining and as such you really get all the parts you need to understand the characters. Also this movie has done what so far none of the previous mentioned have and that’s entice me to go back and watch the MCU in order and then go rewatch Multitude of Madness, just to see how the story’s meaning changes with the extra knowledge from the other stories. So while it isn’t a must to see all of the other MCU stories first, I do believe they add subtle notes to the overarching story of the MCU and enhances the beauty of the broader picture (that while every character is important they are just a part of something bigger.)

well I wouldn't say wanda went "evil" more just like a Mother Bear whos lost her cubs. Also the film takes place like a year after WV with wanda with the dark hold corrupting her. Don't know why the 3rd eye, he has it in the comics but I think as to why the other users didn't get it, it might be specific to him seeing as the only other character to have received one is his evil self.

Plot hole: So they established that Wanda can only use America's power by killing her and absorbing her power, then at the chase scene where Doctor Strange go under the sinks, to the Book of Vishanti, when wand get a hold of America she can be able to mind control her and open a specific portal where she needed her to be (Universe 616), so Wanda can in fact use America's power without killing her.

My dad saw Multiverse of Madness with me even though he had not seen all of WandaVision. He was able to follow it and relate. However, I did give him a crash course on Wanda's story in the MCU and showing him episodes 1, 5, 8 and 9 of WandaVision, so he was not completely unaware of what Wanda's story was.

I hope that we'll get to see Wiccan and Speed. And Hulkling, too, so we have more of the Kree and Skrull.

I honestly was really disappointed that they didn’t bring in What If’s Doctor Strange. If anyone could have put up a fight against Wanda it would have been him.
@moriahpraklet70512 жыл бұрын
@Latest Obsession I guess what bothers me is that they got so close with the Dark Doctor Strange that it might as well have been that character. I mean they had Captain Carter there too. But you might have a point, there was a lot of things from left field so it might have been too much.

My roomie watched this movie with Me last night. She's seen most of the marvel movies, but none of the d+ shows. All she got from Wanda in this movie is "she is angry and want her children what a dumb cliche villain trope" I was crying I found Wanda's story rly tragic she can never catch a break. My roomie didn't get any of that. Your enjoyment of this movie seems to be very dependent on you having watched the shows.

I think that Wanda was the way that she was because she was corrupted by the Darkhold, and now that it’s gone, if she comes back (which I think she will) she’ll definitely have different motivations/be super remorseful. She’s not a bad person, she’s just had no guidance or training and was desperate enough to turn to the Darkhold, letting her grief and the book’s evil influence get the best of her. (Even if it was super awesome to see her go full villain 😂)

Yeah but the show already gave her that guilt and learning from her actions and this movie forgot all of that

If Wanda won, it would have set up REALLY well for Wandavision Season 2, showing Wanda wondering through her various incarnations throughout all of Marvel's various universes.
@Sam_on_YouTube2 жыл бұрын
@Latest Obsession Well, if they ended it with Wanda winning, it would be a redemption arc for her character as she travels the multiverse to various incarnations of herself from comics. She could encounter her Magneto in a world where he's her father, for example. Make an appearance in House of M. Finally meet Mephisto. And realize what she has been doing wrong. And that kind of episodic gimmick would also fit well with Season 1 where they traveled sitcoms from different eras.

I think they should've made the evil Wanda reveal til she was in the middle of the sorcerers. It was clever how they did it, but she could've gone with Dr. Strange to "help" and then turned on them then. To me that would've been so much better, catch them with their pants down.

In the current comics, Clea is Stranges's great love and is the sorcerer Supreme of her own dimension. She is a much bigger deal than Christine. Also, there was a short run series in the comics a few years ago where Thanos reduced the universe by half by combining two people into one. In that alternate reality Dr. Strange was combined with Captain America as one hero. Lots of crazy ideas in the alternate realities.

The "Horror comedy, parody, zombie thing" was probably just a reference to the Evil Dead series, which was also done by Sam Raimi.

Dormamu is released from the time loop when he recalls Kysillyus(I can never remember how to spell it)to the dark dimension. So perhaps the incursion Clea mentions is Kysillyus and his forces living in the Dark Dimension.

I went to see this movie w/o having seen Wandavision, but I knew of it, and when Strange said "I'm not here to talk about Westpoint" I took that to mean 'this isn't going to be about Wandavision', and that seemed true enough. The most interesting thing to me was the spirits when Strange dreamwalked saying "It is forbidden" like On who's authority?? that has so many implications

This was a great movie, some peoples expectations were unfortunately set too high however for the cameos. Mostly by KZbinrs, and speculators with a voice. I was one of them, but I have gotten over that to see the “forest despite all the trees”. It was fun to watch! It also sets up a big Marvel storyline for the future movies.

I loved the movie I just think everyone’s expectations were high with Loki and No Way Home introducing the multiverse I thought MoM would tie it all together a bit more but the events of the Loki series weren’t mentioned at all.

I think that one of the main things to take from this movie is that you don't really know if a character is dead until you see a body.

I've not seen any of the tv shows but have seen the film, I didn't really know why Wanda was suddenly bad or if the Scarlett witch was somehow taking over Wanda like a hostage. I thought there'd be a twist at the end where she would become good or released.

hard agree with ben, i think the mcu got us used to expect so much mindf*ck that a good but not incredible movie now feels meh compared to like infinity war or spidey 3. the script itself was kinda wweird and lazy in some places too, though, so there's that.

I did think it felt right Doctor Strange telling America she had to take over the fight now. There had been a number of scenes where people had been pointing out he felt the need to be in charge and that he needed to let others do things, so at the end when Wong was saying the only way was for him to take America's power, but him realising actually he needed to have America be the one to win the day was supposed to be character growht.

I think Ben hits the nail on the head immediately with what the issue with the movie is. They've been setting up a big "multiverse battle" from the start, Multiverse of Madness is flatout called that, shows like Loki heavily imply that something big is gonna happen, same with No Way Home......but this isn't even close to what the movie does, the movie introduces America Chaves, yes, but it doesn't use the Multiverse in the way we were implied it would. The movie could've been called Scarlet Witch and NOTHING would've changed. It had nothing to do with "Multiverse of Madness" outside of giving them a reason to go "oh wow, Wanda killed the Illuminati in brutal fashion!!" and introducing Chaves, that's it. It didn't further the concept of the Multiverse, it didn't give more hints at what would be the next big villain, it pretty much just kills Scarlet Witch and gives the hint that Strange might be awakening a new power. It's also mentioned that the movie had A LOT of reshoots, so SOMETHING must've happened.

I will say I performed the same experiment you were talking about. Took my dad to see it and he said it was enjoyable, entertaining and he followed the whole storyline. I will say I doubt he could understand the Easter eggs but the regular main storyline was explained in the movie.
