Number one, I was in awe of how the movie was able to still be about Stephen Strange and exhibit his character growth. In the first movie, Stephen had to overcome his ego and learn [it’s not about you]. But in this movie we see why he has that massive ego. He was unable to save his sister from drowning. So for the rest of his life, he believes that it should always be on him to hel[ people. As Christine puts it, you always had to be the one holding the knife. The death of tephen’s sister was a core memory for him, that defines him across the multiverse.
So introducing variant stranges could have just been a fun gag. Like in spider-verse, where seeing all these different genres of spider-man was half the fun [clip].
But in Multiverse of Madness, each version of Strange serves to move his character forward. In the first scene, we see Defender Strange making the decision to kill America and steal her powers. Later we find out that illuminati strange used the darkhold to kill thanos, which threatened reality. And finally sinister strange has turned full on evil. [clip].
All of these Stephens show him in various stages of falling to the dark side. Add in what we saw in What If, and we know that there’s a real danger of Strange letting the darkhold take control of him.
And we know that an MCU hero can break bad, because that’s what Wanda does in this episode. Now I do think that the movie could have done a better job spelling out how she turned so evil. Because wandaVision ends with her having an emotional catharsis and accepting her grief. But then we had that tease that she was studying the darkhold, and that it was tempting her like the one ring [clip].
That ending made it seem like Wanda’s boys were trapped in the multiverse somewhere, not that she was going to run off and kidnap them from another mom. But Wanda sees this as acceptable because the dark hold has taken her. That’s not really that apparent in the movie though.
But I’ll talk about that later with Matt and Adam. Another thing I loved about this movie is how just damn Sam raimi it is. A lot of people who watch this channel may only know Raimi’s work from blockbusters like the Sopider-Man trilogy and Oz the Great and Powerful [uh, what?]
But Raimi’s roots are in low budget horror movies. The Evil Dead trilogy is a masterpiece of horror comedy. And when Wanda is gleefully slaying the illuminati, you can practically hear Raimi laughing from behind the camera.
The movie did another important thing, in regards to the whole MCU. It was able to set up the next movies, but in a way that wasn;t immediately pressing. Here’s what I mean by that. The film sets up Clea, and multiversal crises, and Secret wars-which we talked about in our ending explained video.
But, these aren’t questions that need answered right away. Whereas, say, Captain America Civil war and Winter Soldier IMMEDIATELY changed the landscape of these movies. They changed elements that needed to be addressed in the next MCU movie. But you could skip this movie and go straight into Love and thunder or wakanda forever, and it wouldn’t matter.
So the Multiverse of madness managed to set up a few dominoes without stealing the spotlight from other movies. That’s a very delicate balancing act to pull off.
Here’s my nitpick on the movie. The original ending, where strange screams, and he has a third eye and they cut to credits, was awesome. Should have ended there. I like Clea, I like that tease for more stuff, but it cheapens the end of this movie, which was a brilliant cliffhanger.

What I really liked about their powers was how they displayed how each magic is different. Strange's magic is geometric, calculated, you can see how it gets from point 1 to point 2 to point 3, while Wanda's is completely random and creepy. You don't know what her magic is going to do, point 1 is completely random from point 2 which is way off tangent from point 3. You could almost say her magic was chaotic.

@@Batman1998- He had a ton of new spells. From breaking the invisiblity over conjuring some demons to the stuff with the music. He did definetly show more new abilities then in IW (because there was way more time). And it logically wouldn´t have made tooo much sense, if he had learned to many new things, because he would have to be the one discovering them, since he is the strongest sorcerer on earth. If he would have had tons over tons of new shit, the other sorcerers (like Ancient One) would seem incompetent, because they didn´t discover them earlier

Adam's comment on the Illuminati resonates with me. By introducing them all together and almost immediately eliminating them, they lose individuality and impact in my opinion. I also agree that Krasinski felt flat and didn't exude strong Reed Richards vibes, but I chalk that up to the circumstances more than to Krasinski's appropriateness for the role. I was really bummed that the "things just got out of hand" line was not delivered in the movie by Steven (as shown in the trailer and several times in this video,) but instead was noted by one of the members of The illuminati. I would've liked to have seen how it was used in context. I always took it as Sinister Strange telling MSU Strange that is how he ended up like he is and in a broken universe. Others thought he was saying it as a warning of impending doom, like he was about to fight Strange. Ah well.

The problem is that people put so much expectation and built up so much hype for it, and then were let down when they built these stories of what would happen in their head. What didn't sit right with me was the way they erased any sympathy the viewers previously had for Wanda. Don't get me wrong, her as a homicidal multiversal menace was spectacular, but it seemed like too much of a leap to go from her confronting her grief, promising to make amends for her mistakes in Westview at the end of Wandavision, to suddenly sending interdimensional monsters to track down America Chavez and steal her powers (aka kill her!) so that she could get her children in another alternate universe. The way they set up the trailers, I had hoped that her corruption by the Darkhold would be shown throughout the movie instead of in the first act, so that her decision to murder anyone who stood in her way seemed to be more of a rash decision in a moment of weakness, than some grand scheme that happened prior to America arriving in Earth 616. Imagine those interdimensional beasts weren't sent by her but they were drawn to America's power, and that Dr. Strange did seek out Wanda's help when Chavez came to their universe because of her knowledge of spells and witchcraft. They could have explored the Darkhold as a sort of tool to try and keep the monsters at bay, while attempting to reunite America with her parents and send them home. In this instance they could have really emphasized the main protagonists as individuals who had lost their families (Strange, America, and Wanda), and who could empathize with one another in their desire to find their families. But once Wanda starts using the book too frequently for this altruistic purpose, and then discovers her perfect alternate universe in their pursuit of getting America home, one where she has Billy and Tommy in her happy dream home, she realizes America could be harnessed for her own purposes, and THAT's when she switches from being Wanda to becoming the Scarlett Witch, her most fearsome form that brutally murders some of the most powerful superheroes known across the multiverse in order to hang onto the version of her perfect life. That's where it becomes the power struggle for "who holds the knife" and pits her against Strange and the Earth 838 Illuminati. It would be far more satisfying to see someone who had believed they had put their past behind them and was trying to make amends for the damage they'd done, only to face their temptation a second time and fail to overcome their true desires. Far more relatable and heartbreaking instead of making her outright evil and duplicitous.

I definitely agree. What we got for the explanation is alright (Darkhold corrupts and in the year and a half since Wandavision she's lost herself), but the situation you described would've been a lot better. Yah I definitely thought the “now I’m bad Wanda” was too sudden and needed to be addressed more. I think that a perfect opportunity would have been when Xavier was rooting around in her head. He could have accessed a quick montage of memories of the Darkhold tormenting her into a breaking point, at which point the intrusion would have triggered her Illuminati homicide rampage. Then her murder of those guys would have had a more direct trigger, and we would really have gotten to see her get broken so her heel turn would feel less like a plot device.

It's so weird how Wandavision is required viewing for this, yet also was a bad setup for this Wanda because they didn't show her break bad enough. Sure, she trapped Agatha in Agnes, and she started using the Darkhold for like a few seconds of screen time. But she also showed remorse for her actions to the townsfolk, she made up with the fact that Vision died, and she just generally understood that she was dangerous. Honestly, just one more episode as an epilogue would have paid dividends for showing the fallout in Westview, how SHIELD is handling it and the various associated characters with them, Vision's coming to grips with his current state, and most importantly, how the Darkhold starts to really manipulate Wanda. Such a shame, because MoM Wanda is so terrifying and such a good villain that I wouldn't change anything about her in this movie. Really, it's the setup prior to this movie that should have changed.

I don't think you can really fault WandaVision though because it came out first. It's the job of the writers/directors for future content (aka MoM) to be up to date on previous material, and to build from it. Also if they want to take a different direction from previous material that is fine, but they need to find a way to explain it that makes sense. The idea of the Darkhold corrupting Wanda could work, but they needed to pay attention to how it was doing so at the end of WandaVision. The final scene leaves the impression that Wanda's kids are literally in need of her help, but in MoM that is not reflected in her mentality at all. It doesn't make sense to blame WandaVision for that though because of what I mentioned above.

A lot of times when Ryan does these chats with guests, at some point I end up being put-off by a guest and I tune out(Matt on last weeks video). But I liked this one. Matt kind of laid out why the Illuminati sequence worked, while Adam explained why it didn’t. They both had solid, valid points and opinions here. Matt thought it worked as a short packed sequence because it’s a one and done fan-service thing that didn’t take up too much of the story. While Adam felt the exact opposite. He didn’t like the fact that the characters weren’t really embedded in the story or have any kind of importance or character arc. Like Tobey and Andrew in NWH, they came in and really drove the story and characters to new places. The Illuminati didn’t. Overall, good talk boys! A+

I mostly disagree with Adam regarding How Multiverse-y this got. Let Professor X do all the exposition because Patrick Stewart is great at that and then let John Krasinski be the “oh heck yeah” moment that Ryan mentioned in one of his other videos. He could have shown up when Wanda is just about to kill Dr Strange at some point later in the movie and then he saves Strange and then puts up a good fight against Wanda and THEN gets turned into string cheese. Like that cameo in that context would’ve been enough to cover the oh heck yeah moment and also give Krasinski a more useful role to fill other than cannon fodder number 2

I wish the end of WandaVision was much more somber and hinted towards the outcome of Multiverse of Madness. I feel like the movie needed more time to let some of the characters breath and show more depth. We never really have enough time to truly be introduced to America Chavez, to connect with her character, and become invested. We needed more time devoted to showing Wanda's decent into madness from the cathartic realization she had at the end of WandaVision to slipping into corruption. The suddenness of her heel turn and almost immediate reveal of her being the villain chasing America felt to just undo her previous arc and instead of showing us the writers just chose to tell us it happened. It had some good moments and ultimately I think we got to see some character development of Dr. Strange it was ultimately at the expense of destroying the previous character arc of Wanda.

I would agree with this, I think they could have made Americas character really good. However, it was kind of a let down because I feel that I didn’t get to know her. It would have been good to see her origin story. It also felt rushed with her suddenly controlling her power because it wasn’t even like she was close to controlling it until the very end. On another note, I understand they had to show how powerful Wanda was completely obliterating every character but it felt like they brought these new characters in and built them up in the trailer just to die.

I actually liked the way they approached the multiverse. I like that all the stranges actually served to push our strange’s character forward - each of them are at different stages of becoming darker as a result of Stephen’s desire to be the one who saves/helps people, stemming from his tragic loss of his sister, or as he would pu tit, his failure to save her. It’s good that they didn’t focus more on shits and giggles like in “into the spider verse” in the scene where him and America are flying through different universes was trippy asf and really fun but i’m glad they left it at that and actually focused on the characters

My takeaway from the film is similar to Adam’s, I feel they overly hyped the multiverse stuff and what Marvel could offer, but didn’t explore enough of the multiverse or make it run more parallel to Strange’s journey in this film. I also agree the casting of the Illuminati was great but I wanted to see more of them and how their presence and role assisted or influenced Strange more throughout his journey, as he tried to fight Wanda (as compared to just a gang up 1 by 1 fight against her and losing epically). Still it was a great movie and it leaves me just wanting for more which they probably are leaving for future installations.

Mordo got screwed by this film! Considering the first Dr. Strange’s ending it would have been cool to revisit that rivalry in a meaningful way. There's proof the movie was edited to remove certain things. For instance an entire plot synopsis leaked detailing pretty much 98% of the released movie. The differences were: No Reed or Blackbolt, instead was Bruce Campbell as Baldur. (Bruce's comment about how he felt his "role may be cut" from the movie rings interesting when you consider he was, and was only brought back for a small joke role because Raimi and him are so close.) And, at the start of the movie our main universe Mordo was going to approach Wanda and she was gonna decapitate him. Meaning Mordo would have been screwed over worse. I do think it's funny that two magical villains with body counts may have had the right decision on what to do with Wanda: smoke her.

Yeah I feel the same way. I feel like they could've fixed this at least in part by having a more intense finale where strange and wanda directly fight through different universes or something crazy like that. It felt like this ending was a bit tame compared to what we've seen before. In terms of emotional attachment, I wish strange had a bit more personality. He seemed a bit low energy at times, and I think that might've contributed to it. Also I think it was really important for them to show wanda's direct descent into madness, and I don't think they did that well enough. Overall I actually really liked the movie though!

I wasn't exposed to any spoilers so my expectations with this movie were high, but logically, I knew there was still tons of time and opportunities ahead if it turned out to be underwhelming. The only trailer I watched was the one after 'No Way Home', but I know a lot of people heard about some crazy cameos and actors, and maybe these rumors raised the bar for this movie's outcome, which was definitely fair. In terms of plot holes, the only thing I am still trying to figure out was how Tommy and Billy existed in other Universes and also why Vision was not present at all in any dream/reality. I think they made Wanda kill the Illuminati so quickly because of everyone's expectations; most of our heroes have had the same mentality when handling minor and major threats. Thanos was a perfect example and there was not many options left once he was at everyone's doorstep. With Wanda being OP, I think it was more to solidify what Mordo was explaining to Strange about the dangers of Dream Walking and Wanda certainly left a lot of consequences for Universe 838. She killed basically the head of the X-men, a member of the Fantastic 4, the Inhuman King, and that Universe's Captain Marvel and Captain Carter. X-men and the Inhumans are definitely gonna want answers and maybe even revenge. As for Captain Carter, this Universe no longer has one to defend it, in addition to no longer having a Captain Marvel to monitor/protect the other planets in that universe. On top of all that, Reed Richard's death is a lot more than just the Fantastic 4 losing their leader. We saw that this universe had developed and utilized Ultron bots, which I am assuming was by him. If the bots ever malfunction or show signs of Ultron, Reed is no longer there to fix it. Additionally, Reed is also the son of Nathaniel Richards who is a Kang variant. All in all, with Wanda removing all these major heroes from Universe 838, she has 100% set this universe up to be ripe for the taking. There is no one there to defend it from a Kang invasion.

She just needed a pep talk and then she contolled her powers no problem. Wong falling off a cliff on his back and then climbs back up. Makes Blackwidows death look like a joke. Illuminati was such a let down. Why even include any of it? Wanda uses reality warping to change an entire landscape, but then shoots red farts for the rest of the film except when the illuminati was in front of her and made them look like weaklings....OH BUT DR STRANGE AND AMERICA CAN RUN AWAY IN A TUNNEL... Where's her reality warping abilities now??! Having unlimited realities to goto but no Vision, and just kept going back the same one with Wanda home and the kids in the other room. Horrible execution through and through. Felt like an unreal "Scarlett Witch kills the Marvel Universe" Acting was great, visuals good, storyline was complete trash. Another note, maybe have it so different leaders of different universes (Avengers, Illuminati) fight each other to try to make their universe the only one left standing, how Kang did. Maybe have it so they end with an agreement to allow the multiverse to exist, as fighting each other might destroy all the universes and leave nothing left. The TVA can help keep an eye on multiverse hopping, not allowing it, but allowing the multiverse to exist parallel to each other. And it’ll set up a multiverse of madness 2 where the Kang variants become multiversal terrorists in a way and try to destroy each other’s universe, knowing that the other Kang wants to destroy their universe. That’ll be MADNESS!!

I had many friends saying "what did they do to my wanda" but they underestimate the power that the darkhold had on her. Of course she had a lot of trauma but they fail to realize that this is a direct result of the darkhold, not specifically just her trauma. After all she didn't realize until the end how much damage she was doing to other people, she doesn't want to be a monster and never wanted to hurt others, she just desperately wanted her children and the darkhold corrupted her mind.

I get what the one guy was saying about it needing to be a bit more "Mad" than what we got. A fight scene that took place across a dozen different universes with the same/different versions of characters in wildly different physics and sceneries that all served the purpose of letting you know "This is a different universe from the one that Dr. Strange was just punched out of." The travelling scene with Strange and America Chavez was perfect but so brief that you could have blinked and missed it. We really needed to see more universe hopping so that you really felt the "Madness" of the title.

I feel like you guys completely miss how well the movie did with Wanda’s multiverse-spanning unconditional mother’s love. The ice cream song the kids sang was so adorable! You know what I just realized. Strange was wrong. Out of the 14 million possibilities, that wasn’t the only one where they won. We saw in Earth 838 they defeated Thanos with the cost of Doctor Strange eventually being killed by the Illuminati because of his use of the Darkhold. So did 616 Strange pick the one we saw in Endgame just because he survived? Is Strange still only thinking about himself even after the Ancient One told him it’s not about him? Out of the 14 million, did he miss the 838 timeline? It really gave Dr. West’s scene at the wedding more meaning when he asked was that REALLY the only way? Or am I just confusing Multiverses with Timelines? Are they separate things? Jesus.

I thought about this too! I was watching the movie thinking that strange could’ve sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos, BUT as I was reading your comment I realized his team would not have sacrificed him. Tony, captain America, Thor, none of the avengers would’ve sacrificed him. Just like they told Vision “we don’t trade lives.” The Illuminati was more brutal, willing to sacrifice Strange.

“Multiverse of madness” and it only “explores” one other universe lol, also I went into this believing the official marketing that this was the culmination of WandaVision, Loki, and No way home, so you can imagine I was expecting something to drastically change the status quo of the mcu forever since everything they said was leading up to this had been crazy. So to not only get Ralph Bohnered again expecting something big to happen but this movie didn’t answer or give me any satisfaction to any of the loose threads from WandaVision, Loki, and no way home which it was marketed to do so. Ralph Bohner, Kang, Multiversal war, Variants being from actual other marvel franchises, none of those things were explored or answered and I just feel weird knowing that some of those might never be answered. Not to mention them just redoing Wanda’s entire ark and emotional beats all over again. And strangers entire emotional ark being about a bland character from the first movie. I wanted the Professor to be shown as Onslaught or just put up a better fight against Wanda. I'm okay with how fast she killed the other members of the Illuminati but they could have given us a 60 second fight of her battling the Professor. MoM is a great film, not my go-to mcu film but it served Strange's pov right after NWH events. The film is kinda fast in pacing but it is good enough to tell us the "consequence" of doing wrong. The first scene where Chavez opened a portal gave me goosebumps right away, Gomez did an amazing job. Cumberbatch is a satisfying actor, but Olsen, she is something else, she's made to be Scarlet Witch! The whole Illuminati is cool, kinda surprised they didn't stayed that long but just right for the purpose as they said, but Capt. Carter is the one I've been waiting to see on screen the most, ofc Professor X is an exemption, I grew up watching non-mcu filsm nonstop. I also could not wait for Fantastic 4. Can't wait to see more of Black Bolt, he's cool. The team did amazing! I love how horror touch was added to the film, making it one of the most unusual mcu style. Kudos to Raimi, I actually felt it wasn't a mcu film bc of camera works and creative ideas, it's damn cool. Oh, and the post-credits scene is unexpected but exciting.

I’ve seen so many people say “the trailer led me to believe Wanda was gonna be good and work with Strange but she was evil instead.” Who really thought that?? The expectations that this movie somehow was gonna be Secret Wars with all these cameos people dreamed up and since they weren’t in it their disappointed, it’s ridiculous.

What I don’t understand is people saying I wanted more multi verse. I think it did an awesome job of exploring it and the madness of the different stranges we saw being killed. You can’t just go super crazy with the multiverse because you want to save that for secret wars. Also why are we looking for a cameo fest again saved that for secret wars. This film did an awesome job being the door to all of this down the line. It was a multiverse film and I definitely felt the madness. Maybe people got to caught up in plot leaks and cameo appearance videos before going to see these, your exceptions was to high. The problem is that people didn’t know what the MCU was doing in it infancy and people patiently waiting for Thanos for 10yrs. Now that we got that pay off and know how the MCU operates people don’t have the patiences for the slow burn like they did the first time. It’s just give me give me more right now or I’m not satisfied. Dang be patient, think of Shang chi as the first ironman film and the 10 yrs is starting over again for another big build up. Dr strange gets an 8.5 from me.

I mean... you're watching an MCU movie. We're 14 years into the MCU and I think expecting something to not look like an MCU movie you're going to be disappointed. There's a look and feel that they go for in these movies. When I see an MCU movie I want it to feel like an MCU movie. I get where he was going as far as seeing all these different universes that they passed through. You see that, and you think, "what's going on there? Ooh! What's going on there?! OOH! What's going on THERE?!" But I think any one of those would potentially derail the story, because it would have been all focus on a world that we probably would only spend a few moments in, or it would have been TOO different where it didn't fit in the overall story. As for the cameos, I liked how they handled it. I did audibly gasp when I was John Krasinski. Like everyone, I have seen the fan casting and I was like "They did it... those crazy sons of bitches, they did it." I also have seen some concerns about it being too scary for younger kids. I was a bit worried because my kids really like the MCU movies and it's one of those things we look forward to seeing is the next MCU movie. My girls are 10 and almost 6, so when I heard about it, I asked both of my daughters if they still wanted to see the movie. They both said yes, and my youngest said, "Dad, just sit next to me so if it's too scary I'll turn into you." She didn't flinch once, and I didn't feel like the concern was warranted. It felt overly dramatic warning. My youngest, as we were driving home said, "there was nothing in there that was too scary for me." But then again, one of her favorite shows is Stranger Things, so..... bottom line is, you know your kids. If they're okay with the MCU they'll more than likely be okay here, but if some scary imagery bothers them, then maybe reconsider.

Two things that would have been the movie 10x better (Movie flow was great already, but these two aspects would have made it perfect). 1.) TV spots should have never shown Captain Carter at all and Professor X a second time. They should have left the trailer hint appearence for Professor X ONLY so it would not give too much away. 2.) Deadpool would have have been perfect to appear in the scene where Strange is in a holding cell before meeting the Illuminati, he ends up being put in a cell with Deadpool where they meet and discuss and multiverse understanding (Comedic scene as both Strange and Deadpool have similar experiences). Deadpool/Colossus will then reappear near the end of the movie to help Wong and Strange save America Chavez from Maximoff. During a Wanda-Deadpool fight scene, Deadpool will get a flashback caused by Wanda of Vanessa's death which continues to further establish Deadpool's pain and overall dark tone of Dr Strange 2. Overall, the cameos should have ONLY been the Illuminati along with Deadpool and Colossus would have been the icing on the cake. Too many cameos is not necessary. Only Illuminati and surprise Deadpool-Colossus contribution to the storyline would have made this movie ranked WAY higher than it already is. There was a definitely chance to blend Deadpool into the storyline without ruining the tone and keeping the tone of the movie as dark and sad. This will also set up hints and desires for future MCU movies such as New X Men, Secret Wars, etc.

I agree with Adam. Wandavision blew my mind for its winding story telling and emotional honesty and power. This film didn’t hit either of those notes, and the plot is surprisingly linear for a “multiverse of Madness” title/promise. It’s also emotionally flat and that was the most disappointing, since strong emotional needs were supposedly what drove each of the characters.

It wasn't bad just people expected more. This was was a Doctor strange 2 movie through and through. This is the first movie that is slowly introducing us to the Multiverse and the idea that Mcu fans will need to be watching Disney plus as well to understand things going forward. The movie was not supposed to be an extreme wide scope of the multiverse they have years to do that and cant drop an Avengers style multiverse movie right away they are just getting everyone onto the idea that they can do anything and that any characters and actors can appear playing these characters they opened to door for whats to come with this movie well keeping it some what grounded in a way that felt like a Doctor Strange 2 not and Endgame type epic build up. Disney wants us to know how everything is so pivotal going forward. The film wasnt amazing but was fun to watch and strings us along for massive Characters like The FF4 and Mephisto, Doctor Doom, Annihilus and the negative zone and hopefully King Thanos and Knull. If Thanos was a massive threat across the multiverse and almost every universe knew of him you can expect him to be back.Would amazing to have Thanos back either as King Thanos or another version so we can have the famous Thanos and Adam Warlock dialogue that we get in the comics. Surfer and the Magus to follow would be amazing and the Universal Church of Truth. The movie was a 7 out of 10 for me

Comparing this movie to Everything Everywhere All At Once, the pacing of Multiverse of Madness felt super jerky. The pacing kept getting interrupted every time Dr. Strange got pulled away from Wanda into another universe. Time seems to stop whenever he leaves, and thus it feels like the immediacy of a problem ceases. Additionally, multiverse of madness had super campy lines and deliveries. It also didn't help that America Chavez's actor is super young and her performance felt very stiff. Overall the movie was fine, but it wasn't amazing. There were too many things that broke immersion for me.

I think if they were going through different multiverses randomly, it wouldn't have tied into the ending where Strange saw that America was actually directing their destinations to where they needed to go. And even What If established that there are certain anchor points which don't seem to change much between universes. I would have thought Sinister Strange was pretty strange/different from the other two universes.

I'm not sure if it was because of the spoilers I was exposed to, but I left the movie feeling underwhelmed. It was basically a by the numbers 'video game' plot line dressed in Sam Raimi directing. After 2 movies and several guest appearances, I still don't have a grasp of "Dr Strange". Cumberbatch 'looks' like him, but he's written inconsistently as Strange, too quippy and maybe not 'serious' enough....

Strange has always been weirdly presented. Because it's like he's a Tony Surrogate. Most interactions i've seen of Strange in shows, showed him as a confident but also guru like person. Not a snarky quippy person like Stark or most of the other cast. I still like that Sam Raimi got to show off his Raimi style...which since Ragnarok the directors seem to have a lot more freedom to be less MCU formula like. But yes I agree with you. I feel that I have no reason to really see this film again in it's entirety. It is a film that basically rewards dedicated people seeing all the MCU films and shows but it did not put the effort to make it a nice stand alone film...or sequel. If anything it's not Dr. Strange 2. It's Wandavision Season 1.5/Spiderman No Way Home Sidestory/Marvel Multiverse Chapter 3.

It advanced the character of Doctor Strange. It introduced America Chavez. It wrapped a major personal arc for he Scarlet Witch. The post credit scene set up a potential new companion for Doctor Strange. It gave us our first glimpse of Inhumans, FF and just the tip of X-men in the MCU. It did a lot and I don’t think every movie needs to full commit to advance the universe-wide plot. That gets a little predictable.

The whole tunnel scene was confusing to me. Why is she slowly limp chasing people when 1) she can fly and 2) that she could literally make them stop. Towards the end the chase the camera angle even showed how close she was. Did she suddenly need to physically capture them? Then they just stand there wondering if THIS door was going to stop her? So much senselessness to create a “scary” chase? Blackbolt harmed internally by his own power… Prof X one hit KO’d for a “scared moment”. The contortions to inject far from horrific horror moments.

I had a few key issues with this movie that really downgrade it for me. 1. Something about the visuals, especially in the first act, felt off in a way that reminded me of the Spy Kids films more than anything else. I can't put my finger on exactly what causes this, but it really prevented me from getting into the story early on. 2. Wanda's heel turn does not feel earned or justified, especially after how WandaVision resolves. Having her be seduced or corrupted by the Darkhold is fine, but the way that that is connected to her kids just doesn't work for me. 3.The movie comes dangerously close to being an idiot plot. If Wanda had managed to get America's powers in the first scene or two, or just sent by America to one of these dimensions, she most likely would have eventually been confronted with her children seeing her as a monster. This may very well have had a much lower body count. 4. The sub-plot of the Scarlett Witch being a prophesied destroyer/conqueror of the multiverse added nothing to the plot at all, and generally just cluttered up an already packed film. 5. The mage battle between the two Dr. Stranges using musical notes made basically zero sense in the context of their known abilities, and was just so unnecessarily weird that it launched me all the way out of immersion in the film, which I never really recovered from. That all being said. Elizabeth Olsen's acting in this was some of the best I've seen. Her control over her fine facial muscles in some of these scenes blew my mind, and undead Strange and his spirit cloak was one of the coolest things I've seen in an Marvel film in years.

The cameos were solid and I like how they've further setup Young Avengers AND Secret Wars. I could wish an actual Marvel baddie was string-pulling all along but overall it was solid. Or combine the scenes. Clea shows up and tells Strange to help her as things have gotten bad and are about to get worse. Cut the tired "unless you're scared" bit. Have Strange start to question it before his head starts to hurt. Show a surprised and worried Clea, to imply she isn't responsible. Then the eye forms and he does the screaming gag. Movie ends. End credits just be the Bruce joke. Maybe have a Thor thing as the second credit thing, if we have to have two.

I think the main problem is the title. They shouldn't be naming the movie Multiverse of Madness when it isn't entirely about Multiverse. It's just like Wanda chasing Strange and America for the entire movie and it didn't showcase the Multiverse element. Not to mention they even went out of their way to make sure the Latinx community was included by hiring Xochitl Gomez!!! I’m so pleased that disney has been going so above and beyond lately, and I love that they also make sure there is enough representation for People Of Color. I personally loved the kissing scene in Lightyear as well, which was another fantastic film. It was such a great way to introduce homosexuality to my non-binary 6 year old. 1.) America Chavez was a living/breathing mcuffing for Strange and buddies to have a way to mpve through the Multiverse and she was never created nor used in any media (escpecially in this one) as she never was created as a good character to begin with. 2) Hyping up the most powerful artifact/relic/magical item in all of the Kamar-Taj sorcerers inventory and then just showing it for under a minute before burning it away and forgetting it for the rest of the movie, even tho in the start of the movie it seemed important. As my fellow comic fans know, The Book of the Vishanti is THE opposite thriving force against the Darkhold and literally one the most important things Strange & buddies have in their inventory. 3) Strange in the credits scene, where Clea appears to him, talking him about the incursion and fixing it, not bad BUT the thing that bothers me a lot is that our modern Strange was still connected to the raw chaos magic and power of Chthon, even tho he is supposed to be the exact opposite to Wanda. To be more clear, Wanda is the champion/chosen one of Chthon, whereas Strange is the Vishanti's. Wanda holds the book of Chthon a.k.a the Darkhold, whereas Strange wields it's polar opposite the Book of the Vishanti and of course Oshtur united with her son, Agamotto and her alien-god friend Hoggoth to form the Vishanti against Chthon. 4) Chavez being the only 'her' one in the Multiverse doesn't make sense regarding with SO MANY things in the MCU and the comics. 5) The absolute garbage thing is to hear the writers talk about the MCU as the universe 616 disgusts. The MCU is not the 616 and it never will/shall be. The last point also should be enough to concern you, that if America is the only 'her' in the Multiverse, then how tf she didn't have any original connection to the main cast/events happened in the mcu etc, etc. 6) They never explained what's the thing with the Eye of Agamotto for now. Most likely as we saw it was used like an actual Eye of Agamotto, it still contained the power that Agamotto has made it to have. 7) In the end of the first Strange movie we see Mordo doing the "now I know what's wrong with the world, too many sorcerers" but never see "our" mcu Mordo to begin with after that but all we hear is that he had clashed one or two times with Strange after the first movie. Problem being they told us about it and not showed the action. Overall, even though how hardcore Strange I am and have been for the longest time, this movie had A LOT of big and too overwhelming mistakes that just cannot be overlooked. But as I have witnessed, there are too much blind ppl watching this and forgetting the lore, history, pasing and overall flaws and just calling it clean and perfect from the start. This movie was about a Wanda's story after WandaVision and Multiversal Taxi made manifest taking Strange and buddies through WaCkY aDvEnTuReS through the Multiverse and not a true Strange sequel.
