Even though Star-Lord's actions were stupid, I believe it was completely within his character, as he reacted the same when he found out that Ego killed his mother. (Thanks for all the likes, hehe, cheers peeps)

DMcG It's aldo a very human reaction, like 5-10 minuted before hand Star Lord himself was saying how I'm half stupid which is human and guess what you're 100% stupid (forgetting the exact words) So he himself establishes just how stupid we are as a spieces but it's also just... you lose the love of your life, that one person who means the most to you and everything just breaks, Nothing else matters. He was blinded by grief and rage. It was very human.

I love how the opening seems to redeem Loki as a true hero. At the end of the first Avengers, it was the main hero, Iron Man, telling the big villain they had been leading up to, Loki, the line: "we have a hulk". Now, it feels like the directors chose to have Loki say "we have a hulk" to the big villain they have been leading up to in order to cement Loki's place as a hero.

My two favorite parts that give me chills every time is when Thor comes down into Wakanda. That’s an obvious one, he’s badass with the Avengers main theme playing over top, and newish armor. And also when Black Panther screams WAKANDA FOREVER! And the whole freakin army rushes the wall. Man I can play that over and over and get chills every time I LOVE THAT so much!!

The reason they say that Thanos will return is because it is really his movie. If you add it up: - They start the movie with Thanos. - We get a lot of backstory and character building of Thanos that makes us (maybe just me) sympathize with him at least a little bit. - The movie ends with Thanos, in peace, watching the sunset in a "grateful" universe. The movie treats Thanos like the protagonist A LOT.

I assumed that when Thanos said he ignored his destiny once and can't do it again, he was talking about his homeworld. When he knew the solution but people didn't listen and he let them go on, instead of killing half of them.
@C._Bradford
@C._Bradford 6 жыл бұрын
The most impactful death when you think about it was Dr strange. He may not have had some touching moment but think of it this way the whole fight that he had had with Thanos he knew was meaningless. He had seen down the time stream. If they could have won the fight he would have used the time stone to repeat it over and over till they did, but he didn't. He knew the only way they won was by giving Thanos the stone. He knew they could only win in the end if they lost. Most importantly he knew he would die and he was just prolonging the inevitable till it happened.

For me, the most impactful "cornflake" death was Bucky's and Peter Parker's, and somewhat Wanda Bucky because he was the first one to go. He was the first one of many to go, the rest of the group didn't know how to react because he was the first person to go that way. Also, I have a deep love for Bucky so that emphasized how impactful his "death" was. Also, Bucky's been though so much already: being captured by Hydra during WWII, falling off a train only to be captured by HYDRA again and turned into the Winter Soldier, constantly being brainwashed, everything he went through, only for him to die. Peter because he saw what happened to the rest of the Guardians, excluding Nebula. His spidey senses were warning him of what was gonna happen, hence why he told Tony he didn't feel so good. The way he was begging to Tony that he doesn't wanna die and how he's sorry broke my heart. Wanda because you could see the relief on her face. She had just lost her lover (twice might I add), and 4 years before that, she lost her twin, and before that, her parents. Wanda's death impacted me because after all the pain she went through, just the look of relief on her face as she started to become ash/dust, it was as if she was saying "I'm coming" to her loved ones, that broke my heart too.
@CLCSIfreak
@CLCSIfreak 6 жыл бұрын
I love how you've explained all this. I definitely felt that Peter's was the most impactful for me, but I never even considered how his spider sense would have made things worse! That just adds to much to the scene. I've always loved Tony and considering how ready he is to start a family with Pepper, losing Peter is just that much worse for him. Peter's was the only death where I cried in the theater and I am a crier. I was also really impacted by T'Challa's death because in that moment I was completely shocked but also reassured. It's weird but knowing that there is a Black Panther sequel coming eventually, this was the clue that somehow, these people will come back. At the same time, it was unexpected---I could have never guessed they'd kill Black Panther, even temporarily, even before knowing about how massively successful the movie would become. Watching him fade was that duel feeling that made it a little easier to stomach the other deaths until Peter's. I want to add about Bucky's death the impact it has on Steve. This is the first sign of what Thanos did and Steve has to watch as his best friend, his last link to his life in the 1940s, the reason he almost killed Tony Stark in Civil War, just dissolved before his eyes. I am not a fan of Steve Rodgers but I can appreciate how important Bucky is to him and I imagine it's going to be a big motivator for Steve in Avengers 4.
@JohnnyFWA
@JohnnyFWA 6 жыл бұрын
grumpy bear I didn’t see relief on Wanda's face, I saw sadness. I felt Bucky's death wasn’t impactful because he just seemed confused, and when others start to die, you have a lot worse and more impactful deaths. Peter. Groot. Strange. Even Falcon! Also, it is undermined by the fact that Thor almost kills Thanos.
@tombuckle7160
@tombuckle7160 6 жыл бұрын
I agree with this. Also I think Groot’s was impactful bc rocket already lost him once and now he’s dying again and the whole movie rocket has been playing the tough guy and not really showing a lot of care for his friends compared to in guardians but then at the end his reaction to groots death is just sadness and disbelief and you finally see him showing some emotion for someone that’s not Thor. Spider-Man’s was still the saddest for me though

Vision is ridiculously strong... and a big part of his powers come from his ability to phase... he's invulnerable a lot of times because of that. They wrote that out early on by saying that when he was pierced with the staff/spear thing, he wasn't able to phase, and that's clearly the case until he is completely healed.

One of my favourite moments in the movie was when the alien dude that captured Doctor Strange was just shot into space. It was such a SIMPLE solution! There wasn't any big epic battle, any explosions, the dude just entered space through a hole that Iron Man created, and boom, dead. Like, we get so used to these action scenes that we don't *expect* such an easy way out, but there you go. I like how the writers actually thought about it, and went like, 'Hey, why not just kill him by sucking him into space?' So brilliant.

The scene where Spiderman turned to ashes was actually improvised, I think. It was amazing too, because Tom Holland managed to internalise Peter so well, because if you think about it, that's exactly what a teenager like him would do. He's young, he has family and friends waiting for him, and a whole life ahead of him. It makes sense. And omg, that was literally the third time I cried during that movie.

That was such a cool moment, because you get to see this like intrigue on Thanos’s face, which is so interesting to se in a fight scene. Usually you see the villains being angry or frustrated or smug during fight scenes, but this was different. It’s made clear that Thanos is almost unstoppable and Thanos know that too. We saw how he cut through the rest of the defenses of Vision and Scarlet easily, so it’s such an amazing moment when Cap catches it and Thanos is like “Hmm that’s interesting, who is this?” before going on to overpower him easily. I thought that was one of the best moments from the film. My next would be when Tony, Strange, Peter, and the Guardians were fighting Thanos on Titan. They threw in parts of humor and triumph, and showcased everyone’s powers. We also got those one on one parts of Thanos and Strange which were amazing and really showcased how powerful Strange is. We also got the part where we see that Thanos has gained respect for Tony and says “I hope they remember you”. They developed Thanos more as a character and showed us his backstory also. I have so much praise for this movie so I need to stop myself but Marvel really out did themselves with this one.

What do they do now? They're the Avengers. If they can't save the world, we're damn sure they'll avenge it I think that the movie was amazing. The action was awesome, the interactions were top tier, the humor was well paced. Here are just a few notes I have •Thor's entrance to Wakanda was amazing. Literal shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time. "BRING ME THANOS!" •Any scene with Spidey stole my heart. Especially when he's first introduced as Spider-Man (full suit) he catches the car and just pokes his head out and goes "Hi Mr. Stark!" Also, Peter interacting with anyone new was awesome • *DRAX* •Subtle references to previous movies. Star-Lord flipping off Thanos (a call back to his hand crank flip off from GOTG V.1) Spidey using a popular movie to defeat an opponent (Aliens for Black Maw, ESB for Giant Man) are two that stuck out to me •Teen Groot! Loved him! I relate to him...too much. Teenaged Angst, _meh_ • Peter Dinklage is always a win •Thanos, hands down, best villain in a cbm.

The Russo's said that Thanos is the main character...the protagonist. He may be the villain of the franchise, but he is a hero in his own mind. That is what makes him such a great villain and so freaking terrifying...the fact that he 100% believes he is right, that he is this savior/messiah that is meant to make the sacrifice to save the universe (notice at the end how he is walking on water?). Also, he really did love Gamora because the Soul Stone demands a sacrifice of who you love the most. If he didn't really love Gamora, the Soul Stone would know and her death would've led to him not gaining the Soul Stone. BTW...that was the scene where I actually felt sorry for him...I felt his pain...he is one of the best characters of the MCU, and that was his first movie. Stunned.

Nobody really talks about him because he doesn't get that much screen time, but what really made it sad for me was how while he was cornflaking on the ground and partially hidden by the leaves, Rhodey is just in the background trying to find him, and just the way he said "Sam, Sam, where are you?" broke my heart completely because you just know he never finds him and has to come to the realization that he's gone.

In civil war when he uses Star Wars as his battle plan and this one when he uses Alien. Also when he screams at mantis not to lay her eggs in him. But that ending, it KILLED ME. The lady in front of me turned around and asked if I was ok. To defend Vision, it's shown that the Stone was affecting him, rather in negative way. I guess it could've also affect his powers, especially when Thanos was gaining another Stones. Maybe it was something like the Mind Stone wanted to join the rest of the Stones, in a way. Also, when it comes to Cap holding against Thanos, I really like the theory that Thanos wasn't putting the maximum power then, because he saw Rogers' soul, thanks to the Soul Stone, and was just amazed how pure it is.

I don't like how they made Banner the messenger, because Hulk was the one who witnessed Thanos and up until this movie, Banner never really remembered anything when he turned back from Hulk. Even in his last movie, Ragnarok, Banner thinks he might recognize Valkyrie-after two years of being with her as the Hulk. So when he remembers Thanos and everything that happened on the ship, he breaks the continuity of his character in the previous movies. And he continues to break it by having conversations with the Hulk and being able to hear the Hulk yell "NO!" back at him every time he reappears.
@ronankelly6393

Eliza Moore I agree. The only kind of explanation there might be is that Hulk changed back to Banner on the ship. Thanos arrives and Banner gets all the info and then transforms for the fight. But thats very clunky as he was still Hulk onboard the ship after Ragnarok.

My argument to the "plot hole" pointed out at 23:00 is that Thanos believes that nature and balance is key to a flourishing universe. If populations are growing too much then they are not controlling themselves with the natural order. They are making the mistake of over populating so rather than reward the universe for their mistake of over population Thanos instead takes control and decides that he is the only one who has the ability to put the universe before his own selfish desires. Removing half the population of the universe is restoring balance rather than adding more goods to those who can't control themselves.

And what happens when the remaining population of the universe has more children? Is he just going to keep snapping his fingers every few years? Centuries? Is that what "nature intended"? Thanos is a complete idiot. I can only assume his real motivation is spite. Because his own planet ran out of resources, and he "had to" kill half of his own people, therefore he justifies it by convincing himself that all planets have the same problem and there's no other solution. He thinks, "If I had to endure this tragedy, then everyone else should, too."

Also, when he was young, he formed the opinion based on direct evidence that not killing half the population resulted in the death of the entire population. See the "film theory" guy for an interesting take. For planets where population growth is already slowing or near replacement levels, killing half the population would result in a lower maximum. So instead of earth maxing out at 9billion..oops 10 billion..oops 11 billion..oops 14 billion by the latest UN estimates.. it might max out at 8 billion after being cut to 1968 levels. However.. hitler also had a dumb plan. Attack the soviet union and start a two front war. Tyrants and dictators *often* have dumb plans. But millions die before they are stopped. Here's the biggest implicit problem with Thanos "fair" plan. He implicitly says "There is no chance I will die." when he says afterwards, he will rest. He should have said, "If I survive, I will rest". And even more different would have been if he said, "You think I could live after doing that? It's required but afterwards I will rest... in the grave."

Some Things I LOVED about this review: - Little language parallel things you picked up on ie. Thanos Calling himself Destiny, Thor being fate - Talking about the comedy and how the bubbles and the gun wasn't comedic at all - Breakdown of each persons refusal to take a life - "We don't trade lives" Somehow I haven't seen anyone else talkin - Note of how Thanos was the only person that sacrificed a life to get a stone - Appreciation of Thors General Badassery in this film - Loki Character Development!!! Things that don't sound like loki lol - Pacing talk! Somehow I hadn't given consideration at all to why Thanos hadn't acted sooner, but the Asgardians protecting the forge makes total sense and I'm mad I hadn't thought about it sooner - Soul Stone Theory: Thanos making the wrong choice. IM ABOUT IT - Calling Vision a plastic bag with an infinity stone in it lolol. Pointing out how he's supposed to be made of vibranium. CALL THE RUSSOS OUT. - Scarlet Witch Appreciation in general (still feel like she could have been more suped up tho tbh) - The CG was bad with the hulkbuster, y'all right - Teenage groot was too much aka, not anything, y'all right - If they had killed shuri, we would have exploded - APPRECIATE GAMORA, YES, - Talkin about Irondad - Steve calling Tony Earth's greatest defender, im crying, - There's not enough Cap, y'all right again - Thor and Caps Hammer. I think you guys are totally right, he could pick it up. Saying he wouldn't because he wouldn't wanna do that to thor??? B/C He's such a gentleman. SPOT ON - IT IS THE NUMBER ONE MCU MOVIE TELL IT LIKE IT IS Things I wish you had discussed/me critiquing ur critique: - Possibility that Thanos didn't actually love Gamora, because of his abusive relationship with her and that maybe this will play into the next movie? - More theories about how loki could be not dead, but maybe thats a whole other video - I thought Banner was gr8 in this, I loved him having that more lowkey comedic role, and I liked his development of him being able to hulk out. It leaves you wanting more for other movies! - Starlord is frustrating as shit in this, but i think flawed characters make the MCU, im fuming thinking about the scene tho - Y'all didn't talk about how boring they made thanos's squad, not that they had time - Didn't talk about Tony saying he wanted kids and then having peter die in his arms and how fucked up thats gonna make him I've never written such a long comment before in my life I just, have a lot of FEELINGS. Also, if someone actually read this, um thanks I guess, what are you doing???

Only thing about your Thanos/Hulk theory, Thanos doesn't use the power stone while battling Hulk. If you notice every time an infinity stone is used by Thanos it will light up on the Gauntlet. "Thanos will return" is based on the fact that he is the protagonist of the movie. Not necessarily the good guy, but the main character. As for why it's relevant that he returns despite his goal being reached, let's remember the title of the movies. He killed people. A lot of people. People close to the main characters. They aren't going to take that lying down. In the immortal words of Tony Stark: "If we can't protect the Earth, you can be damn well sure we'll avenge it."

I think some people don't get that the power stone is the most powerful thing IN THE FRIGGEN UNIVERSE. Like, Thor survived getting deep-fried by a star. The fact that the use of the power stone nearly crushed his skull really shows its power. I mean, it is the PHYSICAL EMBODIMENT of power. Thor, a literal god, and hands down the strongest avenger, would've had his head popped like a grape if Loki didn't step in. The fact that Vision crumpled like a tin can in the grip of Thanos is very accurate. Vibranium may be the strongest metal, but it is no match for the might of the Stone of Infinite Power.

tdcalverly99 - My only explanation for that is that Cap caught Thanos off-guard. Thanos wasn't expecting him to be that strong or put up that much of a fight, so he was pulling his punches. He was obviously very surprised when Cap caught his punch, but the only reason he was surprised is that he thought he was going to go down easily, like everyone else he had just taken out. If you think someone is going to go down easily, you tend to pull your punches, saving your strength for someone who would be more of a challenge. Those are my thoughts on it.

Okay, I’m gonna go ahead and write this essay because a lot of people seem to miss this: In Defense of Peter Quill Obviously everyone knows that the way this played out was, as Doctor Strange says, “the only way.” However, not a lot of people seem to understand why it was the only way, and the movie does actually tell us. Think back to the scenes on Nidavaleir. Peter Dinklage said that “300 dwarves lived on this ring.” Then, Thanos came around, forced him to make the gauntlet, and afterward not only killed the other 299 dwarves, but also destroyed his hands. Why would he do that, when he’s very meticulous about balance and halves? Because they are a threat. The dwarves can make weapons that are powerful enough to kill Thanos, therefore stopping him from creating balance. This is why they all had to be eliminated. Now we fast forward to the scenes on Titan. Remember, Tony says that, “We almost got this thing off!” However, if they had gotten it off, they would have elevated themselves to the same threat level as the dwarves: beings capable of stopping Thanos. If Thanos realized that, he would have taken the same special care to destroy every single one of them, instead of just leaving it up to random chance. This is why Doctor Strange didn’t do anything to stop Quill. You all say that Peter Quill ruined everything, but the truth is that he SAVED everything. Also if that’s not enough for you, remember that Star-Lord only has two really important women in his life: His mother and Gamora, his girlfriend (or long term booty call as he puts it). Guess what? Both of them were killed by deity level beings who loved them, for “the greater good,” in reality so they could destroy the universe as we know it. Given how he reacted to Ego when he revealed he killed his mother, it’s no surprise that this is how he reacted to Thanos.

Well put, although I don't think the threat level thing would have been going through his mind at the time. My question, though: if this is how he reacts to the beings that kill the women he loves, why was he prepared to kill her himself earlier in the film? The two scenes, while understandable and powerful on their own, just don't make sense in the same film.

I think it's how he rationalized it that's important. With Gamora asking him to kill her, he had time to come to terms with it in his mind; he was able to mentally prepare himself if worse became worse. However, after rushing across the galaxy to reach her and save her from Thanos, he finds out she's already been killed, and he wasn't there to protect her, and she died away from him. He didn't get to properly say goodbye, just like what happened with his mother. Emotionally, for him, I think they're two very different and distinct scenarios.

Christian Deepe Even if you blame Peter the truth is that many characters made choices that led to this outcome. Gamora gave up the location of the soul stone. Doctor Strange didn't leave when Tony told him to and was taken captive. Tony wanted to face Thanos on Titan. Thor aimed for Thanos' chest and not his head or arm. Cap and Scarlet Witch insisted on trying to save Vision instead of destroying him as quickly as possible. They all contributed to the loss and whatever the Avengers do to make it right they will have to keep that in mind. The thing is... They are all human and make mistakes.

You only need a branch to revive Groot right? Well there's a mighty one that is part of Stormbreaker still around. Groot ain't dead. Vision is backed up by Shuri on a Wakandan hard drive she's just gotta rebuild him. Gamora is in the soul stone, just needs a body. The only one I consider actually dead is Loki. Especially the way Tom Hiddleson interviews with his "end of an era" talk.

I think one of my favorite scenes had to be when Scarlet Witch or Wanda was destroying the mind stone. The movie sort of built up to it and made it really impactful. Throughout the movie they sort of go into depth with Vision and Wanda's relationship and if I'm honest I didn't like them together before the movie but after seeing this I loved it. So, when this scene played it felt very emotional. Vision's line "I'll just feel you" paired with Elizabeth Olsen's acting was incredible to me. She appeared entirely devastated and I personally felt for her. Then moving through with that scene when Thanos approached them, they carried in the action and incredibly developed powers of Scarlet Witch by having her hold him off with one hand while with the other she destroyed the mind stone. But above all else my favorite part in that scene had to be when Thanos almost seemed to relate to Wanda saying, "I'm sorry, little one" and basically that he knew how she felt. Thanos has already become one of my favorite villains and seeing a small bit of dialogue where he conversed with one of the heroes and almost related to them was definitely something I had never seen out of a Marvel movie before. Also, another little note I liked it how they didn't have Thanos kill or even try to harm Wanda after she had stopped fighting to hold him back when the mind stone was destroyed. One of the things I find I don't really like in Marvel villains is they always tend to kill just anybody and seeing Thanos spare Wanda really enforced the idea that he didn't want to kill everyone. Not only that, but maybe he saw the power he had seen in Gamora and wanted to keep her alive. It would certainly be an interesting comparison. But yeah, as Marvel films go that was one of my favorite and most multilayered scene.

No discussion on Captain Marvel incoming? Or Dr. Strange line: "We are in the end game now" ? and my only nitpick is the underuse of the Time stone. Obviously ever one is pissed at Star Lord for punching him out of the Mantis Trance but there was time between then and when Doctor Strange lost the time stone he could have rolled back time to when they still had him and prevented Star Lord from doing that and allowing them to get the gauntlet off. Only Dr. Stranges words saying there is only 1 way we win makes it possible that he saw that Thanos had to get all the stones for them to eventually win and that makes his actions to beat Thanos in the moment no longer a failure.

The time stone is definitely a big plot hole in any sense. I would think that even if they got the gauntlet off that they are all still trapped on Titan and none of them are capable of wielding the Gauntlet. So I think Thanos would eventually come to and beat them all to get the gauntlet back. But then again, why woukd Strange fight at all and not just hand over the stone if it was the only way?
