Now, I know the theory I'm about to say is going to be very far fetched but hear me out: In Fantastic Beasts 3 we find out that Credence is Aberforth's son. We also find out that Credence is dying and I'm guessing he dies before the big battle between Dumbledore and Grindelwald in 1945(Fantastic Beasts 3 is set before 1930). We get to know that Aberforth showed negligence to Credence like Dumbledore showed negligence to Ariana. But in the events of the Deathly Hallows, set in 1998, Aberforth very mad at Dumbledore for what he did to Ariana and there was also no mention of Aberforth having a son who he himself treated the same way. And Aberforth doesnt seem that big of a hypocrite so he must have forgiven or at least reduced his anger towards Dumbledore Now What If, after Grindewald is defeated, Aberforth asks Dumbledore to erase any memory of Credence(Just like Grindewald released Yusuf Kama from his memories of Leta) so that he wouldn't have to live in the pain and guilt for what he had done to Credence. This will also give a reason why Aberforth was so angry and furious at Dumbledore in 1998

I actually thought of a theory that I think is neat. Essentially it’s that the Deathly Hallows are made out of a thestral. This theory goes with the notion that the 3 brothers were just super powerful wizards who didn’t actually run into death. For the elder wand we already know it has a thestral hair core so no explanation needed. For the Cloak I think it’s made out of a Thestral wing. These horses are inherently invisible to most people who haven’t seen death so throw in a few charms it would be a great starting material for an invisibility cloak. The resurrection stone was tricky but I think it’s made out of the eye of a Thestral. The stone allows you to see your dead loved ones and Thestrals require someone to see death in order to actually see them. So it can be argued that Thestrals eyes can have the properties needed for someone to see beyond the veil. I feel like this makes sense that a legend about three brothers conquering death stems from them killing the closest creature to death in the wizarding world and creating magical artifacts out of it.

@BoKnowsDiddly2 жыл бұрын
I disagree about Filch. He’s just a squib. Squibs can see dementors, so they can probably see the castle. He’s bitter because he has no magic and grew up surrounded by kids who did. He was probably bullied a lot. Especially if he lived in one of the towns that consisted of all magical people. He wouldn’t have any experience with how life in the outside world works. Think about Ron’s family. They don’t understand even the most basic things dealing with muggles. Since he doesn’t know how to live in muggle society, he is forced to make a life of some sort in magical society. Dumbledore took pity on him and gave him a job at the castle. Peeves and the students pick on him constantly causing him to become more bitter so he lashes out at them all constantly.
@TheScarvig2 жыл бұрын
though can they really see dementors? i believe you are hinting at harrys trial where the cat lady squib was called in as witness and all the other wizards didnt exactly seem to be convinced that she actually saw the dementor. and if i am not mistaken she didnt actually describe the dementor as if she had seen it herself, but rather as if she was told by dumbledore what to say. she was able to describe the feeling of being around one as even muggles can feel it
@seantlewis3762 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, except for the dementors part. From the character's introduction, he is explicitly described as a squib, and that conversation is how we, the readers, learn what a squib is. I disagree about the dementors part because of Order of the Phoenix, where we are told that squibs cannot see dementors. Of course it is possible that there are degrees of squib-ism, but that would be a different fan theory conversation.

In late October 1992, Argus Filch received a course package from them, having possibly signed up believing that the course would help him perform magic. Filch brought Harry Potter to his office, intending to write Harry a punishment report for dripping mud from his dirty Quidditch robes onto the castle floor. In the middle of writing it, Peeves the Poltergeist dropped a Vanishing Cabinet, distracting Filch. While he was gone, Harry, curious, read the introduction letter. When Filch came back, he was so embarrassed by the realisation that Harry had seen it that he ordered Harry out of his office without punishment. When Harry told his friends about his, they deduced that Filch was likely a squib, much to their amusement. Why would he do this if he was a poltergeist? We also know the descendent secret keepers can stay there long term (Harry, Ron, and Hermione at Grimauld Place). Presumably the original secret keeper can too (Bill at Shell Cottage). So what better protection could the Potters have than to be their own secret keepers? Why depend on even Sirius being able to withstand the Cruciatus curse, or even put him in that kind of danger?

Funny enough, the conversion between wizard money and muggle money is actually addressed in _Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality_ (which I highly recommend reading, it's amazing). Take Galleons to the muggle world and trade them at muggle gold prices for muggle money. Use that muggle money to buy silver (Harry estimates a 50:1 ratio at the time he first thinks of it). Take that silver to Gringotts and have it minted into Sickles (at a mere 5% service charge). Trade those Sickles for a LOT more Galleons than you started with. Accio Stonks.

Filch the poltergeist and the Swordcrux theories make perfect sense and actually fix plot holes - you already talked about why Voldemort left the Potters alone for so long, but why would Dumbledore, who lost it when Umbridge laid hands on Marietta, keep Filch on staff when he was chasing students with a whip? @@erikcarlsson99 Possibly a lot of people, actually. Just in the OG books themsleves we know of a lot of Muggle born wizards that attend Hogwarts, like Hermione, Coline Creevey and his brother Dennis, meaning that there many students who can share their knowledge of the school between themselves (and their muggle family members) outside the boundaries wizarding world. We also know from the books that the Dursleys were aware of Harry attending the magical school, And so presumably Hermione's parents as well, so it's not like the Muggle born students can't tell about the school to their non- wizard family members and friends. And given how many of them are there, there would be a big enough community of Muggle born wizards who can discuss about their shared experiences in the wizarding world across the globe, more so in late 98' were the home computer and Internet were on the rise. With such a large community there would be quite a few muggles who would know about Hogwarts and the wizarding world from their Wizard relatives, who can also spread the knowledge about it with other people. So I assume that with enough Muggles and Muggle born wizards who know about the wizarding world, it wouldn't be too hard to find someone who can prove to you that all the talk about wizards, magic and schools for them is in fact real and not just some bizarre crazy talk, and are in fact real, more so if you previously had contacts with the wizarding world through a friend or a family member who is a wizard by themselves (aka just like Jacob in FB). Of course I don't think many muggles would be convinced that wizards and the wizarding world exist, and would just dismiss you if you try to tell them about it, yet it may not be such a hard sale given how many times the magical world almost revealed itself to many unassuming muggles. More so if muggle born wizards would decide to communicate with each other in the muggle world through the newly created internet via chat rooms and forums. Heck, it's possible that even the muggles who came in contact with wizards would start to share their knowladge and experiences between each other, by that slowly but surely convincing people that the wizarding world in general, and schools for magic like Hogwarts in particular are the real deal. It's very very possible that most muggles who never had any contact with wizards would just dismiss it as some conspiracy theory or internet creepy pasta, yet I'm more that sure there would be one or two people who would indeed believe it. After all, it wouldn't be the craziest thing people have been believing in, more so given that there are actual wizards who can go out to the muggle world with prove that magic does exist.

The part about Luna saying she could see her mother again makes me wonder if she might have been lying about seeing her mother die. We know from what Nagini said that wizards hunt maladicti for sport. What if another wizard came to the Lovegoods’ house to check on her mother, saw that her mother was mostly transformed into a wolf and tried to kill her mother only for her father to kill the wizard in retaliation? In that case Luna would still be able to see the thestrals because she saw the other wizard die, but her mother would still be roaming around as a wolf. Then the Lovegoods simply tell everyone else that Luna’s mother died in an experiment. Filch is stated to be a squib, a type of wizard who can’t learn magic. Then again he could split the difference by being an onryo/earthbound spirit. Onryo are bound to earth by some sort of regret, like not being able to do magic when you come from a magic family, and the only way to get them to move on is to fulfill their regret. Which Filch is trying to do with the magic correspondence courses he has no luck with.

A few years ago I came across a conversion chart for wizard money to various muggle currencies. I don't remember the exact numbers but since Galleons are "the size of hubcaps" the chart estimated that they're worth less money than the gold they're made of. So if you went to Gringotts and exchanged muggle money for some Galleons, then sold them just as gold, you would turn a profit. Then you could take the money you made from that sale, go back to Gringotts and exchange it for more Galleons, sell them and make even more money. Repeat until you have as much money as you want or you completely destroy the global gold market, whichever comes first. Wizard banking is certainly nuts.

You're wrong about a couple of things in Number 3. Hagrid never bought unicorn hairs nor acromantula venom. He didn't have to. If you read the books, it's clearly stated in Half-Blood Prince that Hagrid only collects the hairs, not buys them. He tells Slughorn "Gets pulled out of their tails, they catch it on branches an' stuff in the forest." (HBP, ch 22) He didn't buy acromantula venom, either, because he had access to a whole tribe of acromantulas. SLUGHORN was the one who cared about how valuable the hairs and venom were. He got some of each from Hagrid to sell them. Finally, Malfoy didn't have a "common brown owl," he had an eagle owl. Again, this information is very clearly stated in the books. "On the other side of the Hall, Draco Malfoy’s eagle owl had landed on his shoulder, carrying what looked like his usual supply of sweets and cakes from home." This is entirely logical - we have seen multiple methods that wizards would be able to find gold more reliably than muggles. Even if they cant conjure it, they can still mine it and refine it. With nifflers running around, theres bound to be more gold in circulation in the wizarding world than the muggle world, and therefore, the value of gold itself would be much lower to a wizard than to a muggle.

"Lycan" does NOT mean werewolf, but just wolf. Lycanthrope combines the aforementioned word for wolf with anthropos, which means man or human. So "Lycanthrope" is literally just greek for "Wolfman". Therefore "the ability for a human to transform into a wolf" is "Lycanthropy" not "Lycan".
@daniellemusella15942 жыл бұрын
@Khodexus I'm thinking he's a fan of the "Underworld" movies, which offer a similar distinction. In that universe, true werewolves can never resume human form, until they die. Lycans however, can transform back and forth. (5/21/2022)

1 Galleon equaled about $7.35 (US) in 2001. From the forward of the fundraiser edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (published to raise funds for Comic Relief UK), since 1985 (to 2001) Comic Relief UK raised $250,000,000 or £174,000,000 or 34,000,872 Galleons, 14 Sickles, and 7 Knuts (I rounded the change up 0.5 Galleons). This figure is corroborated in Half-Blood Prince, because Harry bought a potions textbook for 9 Galleons (about $66 US, which in the mid-1990s would have been a low but still reasonable price for a textbook). So trying to base Hagrid’s salary off the price of an ounce of gold, while an intuitive approach, doesn’t quite square with canon. I will give this to you: a measly $7,353 (1000 Galleons) as a prize for the Triwizard tournament seems pretty stingy for what the wizards have to go through. But it’s still plausible that amount would have been useful to Fred and George Weasley for securing first month’s rent on 94 Diagon Alley (since Harry gave his winnings to them to help start their joke shop business).
@samwest98002 жыл бұрын
Slight problem with the muggle calculation of Hagrid's wealth: JKR said that one galleon equals about five pounds (six and a half dollars). Only being paid ten galleons a week would mean Hagrid would be living off of a meager £50 ($65) a week. So he's probably getting paid quite a bit more.

FYI, your math is wrong on Hagrid's income - 10 galleons/week = 520 galleons a year, not 480 (a year isn't exactly 12 4-week months). So 520 galleons /year x 50 years is 26,000 galleons

Weird math as there are 52 weeks per year and even if given a months off it would be paid so 520 per year not 480 ( 52 weeks and while most months have 4 weeks they also have partial weeks so only going 4 per month x 12 gives incorrect weekly total. )

I don't really have a theory, but there is *one* thing about the HP books, specifically about Chamber of Secrets, that has *always* bothered me. *Why didn't Dumbledore EVER ask Myrtle how she died?* Harry did it and it led him to the entrance of the Chamber. And you can't say: "That's rude to ask." because of Nick's Death Day proving that most ghosts love talking about their deaths. It almost seems as if, with most of them, the day they died is like a badge of honor or something. So again, *WHY?* And for those of you who would argue that it wouldn't help him any, because he's not a Parsletongue; he's the Head of the ICW. I don't believe for a second that there aren't other Parslemouths across the world.

@@alstonjacobs4934 And yet Ron was able to get him and Hermione into the Chamber of Secrets in Deathtly Hallows by *imitating* Harry. Also, snakes are worshiped in some other countries, so I don't believe for a second that there isn't some wizard from India or some other Asian country, who also had the gift.

@@Venquine_R I am just stating the said lore. It is a hereditary trait, and Ron could only just barely imitate what he heard Harry do, so you still first need someone who can do it.
@Venquine_R2 жыл бұрын
@@alstonjacobs4934 I'm not arguing with the lore, I guess I just believe that lore to be part of the English Magical history. But the wizarding world, as proven by the Fantastic Beast series and Goblet of Fire, isn't just contained in England alone. I guess, when I spoke of wizards from India and all, it was my way of expressing my desire to learn about the lore of other parts of the Wizarding World. Another example I just thought of: When it was discovered that Remus was both a student and a teacher at Hogwarts, people threw major hissyfits - to put it kindly. But Madam Maxime is half-giant and Fleur is part Veela. I get the feeling that Beauxbattons and France don't have the same bias towards Magical Beings that England does. And that might just be tied to their history and their lore. And yes, in order to open the Chamber, you need a Parsletongue, I agree there. I just - have trouble - believing that only one line can have this gift when millions of lines might have come into existence all over the world and all over the time that the magical world has been in existence. We don't know anything about wizards from other countries or their lore and history. I guess I just like to keep an open mind and believe that there might be a Parsletongue, werewolf, Veela or - heck, maybe even a Fae or something - out there. Also, sorry for the long rant.

I’m late to the party but… When you talked about Luna being a wolf and her twin sons, I ultimately thought of the founding myth of Rome! Because the founder was Romulus, who had a twin brother called Remus. And their mother was a wolf!! Also Lysander and Lorcan and Romulus and Remus have a similar sound.. so maybe that’s another evidence 👀

If Filch is a Poltergeist rather than a human, what's the whole deal with him angsting over being a Squib? Did he delude himself somehow? (Although, the theory that he is just a manifestation of the energies in Hogwarts might explain how he is even... in Hogwarts to begin with, as Muggles cannot see it.) Before you brought up the quote about the Sword of Gryffindor appearing to a worthy Gryffindor, I started to wonder if someone from another House would be able to summon a significant item of that House's founder via the Sorting Hat. It would have been hilarious if Luna pulled out Ravenclaw's diadem, Ernie MacMillan pulled out Hufflepuff's cup, and Slughorn pulled out Slytherin's locket, and then Harry or Neville or Ron pulled out Gryffindor's sword and smashed those three Horcruxes right then and there. I suppose it doesn't work that way, but it's still a funny thought. The "Final Horcrux" theory is a pretty good one. My only question is how Voldemort would have been able to get the Sword. I suppose I always assumed that the Sword had always been in that display before it appeared to Harry (nearly concussing him in the process) and Dumbledore then just put it back afterward. Since Voldemort could not take over Hogwarts in the First Wizarding War (and because what would be the display was literally in Dumbledore's office), I suppose it would make more sense if the Sword was not in the school at the time. That simply leaves the question of where the sword was, but hey, Voldy was able to find the other artifacts... somehow.

Mrs Norris suffered from a Malediction just like Nagini. she was possibly the only person who didnt treat him like garbage so he grew attached to her and they then worked together to care for the school and keep an eye out for mischievous students breaking the rules. The way he treats Mrs Norris throughout most of the books and movies is almost like you would treat another person instead of a cat.
