He probably understood that the battle of Hogwarts had the possibility of not ending well if he was unable to locate the elder wand, or if the wand failed him. So he needed an heir to finish his work and possibly bring him back and with Bella being his most devoted follower he knew she wouldn't object to having his child. And can we please get over this whole "cursed child is fanfiction not canon" phase? I'ts not fanfiction. Rowling herself says it's canon so it's canon. It's an official part of Harry's legacy.

It wasn’t a choice he made, he was under the influence of magic at the time. (Either a love spell or potion, I can’t remember.) I believe it was mentioned in the video and was a major plot point in the books and movies, but was being referred to as a muggle, not a squib.

I think that the squib of a well respected pure blood family > than a non "pure" family to him. Also, also actually, actually probably his only option to pass down his genetics. Something I'm sure he saw as the utmost importance. No way could he allow his bloodline to die, passing down his genes was his gift to the wizarding world. I think Morfin was not Belvina's son. The only child she had with Marvolo was Merope and that is why he treats her so badly because her mother was a Squib. Belvina could have had two sons with Burke and Marvolo successfully may have attracted someone (maybe a Gaunt cousin) to have Morfin.

She has stated it as canon. I know the difference between a draft and something that just hasn't been in a book yet. This falls into the latter category.

Personally, I don't think this theory is true as there are two major flaws in it. First, if Belvina really was a Squib, it is quite likely that her own name would've been blasted from the Black family tree. We know this because the Black family already has a history of blasting squibs from the family tree, specifically, Marius Black was disowned because he was a Squib. Secondly, I highly doubt that Marvolo would actually have an affair with a Squib. If you remember the pensive memory, Marvolo calls Merope "Squib" as an insult which implies that he sees Squibs as inferior and as you yourself stated, likely would not have considered mating with someone whom he considered inferior.

One reason he might have had a child with a squib is because she was the only one who would. Let's face it, he isn't really the catch of the day. He might have justified it by saying that at least she had pure blood. The reason he hates Merope could be because she reminds him of his squib wife or because she is a constant reminder that he wasn't good enough and had to settle. After all she wasn't really a squib (or at least her magic was better than what we saw in the memory). She was just too abused and afraid to be able to focus on her magic when they were there.

Fun fact: Harry and Voldemort were veeeery distantly related. Marvolo brags that he is descended from the Peveralls. We find out later that Harry is also descended from the Peveralls or, namely, Ignotus Peveralls. We know he was the only Peverall to have a child. Perhaps going down the scale somewhere someone (the owner of the ring) had a child. They were probably one of a few siblings and therefore didn't get the cloak. They married Slytherins ancestor and eventually, after maybe a few more generations, Marvolo was born, but the name had been changed to Gaunt. So yeah. Both descended from Ignotus and distantly related.

Also at the beginning of Deathly Hallows during the death eater meeting, Voldemort talks about how "Many of our oldest family trees become a little diseased over time. You must prune yours, must you not, to keep it healthy? Cut away those parts that threaten the health of the rest." It's heavily implied that he himself has done so, we think he's just referring to his father and his Muggle grandparents but he could also be referring to his squib grandmother as well.

Thus theory makes sense except when you ask why Belvina would have an affair with Gaunt... it was probably still a name with enough esteem attached to it that she could have married him without facing backlash from her family. And you really think that Gaunt would have had an affair with a squib? If you ask me, it would have been much more likely for a squib in the Black family to have been disowned and never to marry a wizard. I just can’t see her entering a respectable marriage with a wizard if she was a squib. While she might have tried to, there is no way two wizard men with pure bloodlines would have consorted with a squib.

Except that squibs dont really produce squibs. A squib is simply to a magic family to what a muggleborn is to a non-magic family. Its highly possible for non magic parents to have magical offspring, while magical parents can have non-magic offspring.

Gilderoy Lockhart, his sibling, Dolores Umbridge's sibling, and there is such a thing as an almost squib, or wizards/witches with poor magical talent I.E. QuikSpell students and Neville Longbottom, as mentioned in Chamber of Secrets. Perhaps being a squib also contributes to poor magical strength in the fact that the recessive gene is weakened with the skipped generation
