I had this installed, and it is AMAZING! It was an expense that I am happy with beyond my expectations. I want to point out that the total cost in 2023 after installation was 11k. I am getting improved mpg because of the added horsepower. In addition, I have the following aftermarket items installed: K&N Series 77 High Flow Performance Cold-Air Intake FLOWMASTER FLOWFX DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEM Pedal Commander (Set for city + 2)

So don’t get me wrong here. It’s your truck. You do you. I’m glad you’re happy with it. If it were my truck, this would probably be the last thing I’d want to do. First off it’s expensive. I see people in the comments quoting $6500-$7000 for 61 hp!? No thanks. Also, a supercharger is incredibly inefficient in the way it makes power. It robs power from the engine in order to operate. A turbo would’ve been a better option IF you feel like you have to boost your taco. Thirdly, boosting any vehicle decreases not only the reliability, but the longevity of said vehicle. The biggest pro to Toyota’s is the unmatched reliability. That is now gone. Forth, fuel economy is way worse and you have to use premium fuel. That cost adds up. If it were me, I’d stick with the re-gearing and just get a tune to maximize the performance of the stock v6. Again, it’s your truck and I’m glad you’re happy with it. Vehicles are like adult legos. We can make them our own through customization. 👍

Congratulations!!! You won the smartest comment award! What I find completely disgusting is after 3 years it only has 3 likes and in the comments above the idiots are arguing about how reliable a supercharger is and the really stupid ones are calling it a turbo. But they are arguing with each other about how great and reliable that truck is now with the supercharger, that some are calling a turbo, compared to a $400 tune.

I just got the odin vmp supercharger build by magnuson on my 17 f150 5.0 and I got power increase of about 80% with full fuel upgrades running E-85 putting down 712rwhp on 37s, it’s crazy..bit wild and scary!!

Yeah, but this is a kit for a stock engine thats meant to be as reliable as before. Of course you could put a smaller pully on and tune aggressively for E85 and increase injector size, etc and make 450 HP on the 3.5 V6 but this aint that. Its a simple kit.

Some of you guys are looking at this setup all wrong. The supercharger with stock intake, exhaust, fuel injectors, and other stock internals is very limited with psi and power output. The more boost the more damage to the engine. For a simple bolt on on all stock parts, 60+ whp is excellent and pretty safe for the engine. If we are here is because we care about overlanding, gear, and Tacoma’s not race trucks or rice rockets.

As a Tacoma owner, this video convinced me if I want more power, trade the Tacoma in utilizing the extra 5k not spent on a supercharger to get a stock v8 truck (or ecoboost v6) that runs 87 octane and makes more power. Assuming some driveline loss you are looking at 350hp at the crank .

@@tacomabeast I had a '12 F-150 Ecoboost and the thing was a beast taking off from the line or when towing... completely stock. However, I traded it in for my '20 Taco because after 67K miles (not bad for 8 years old) I had already been though 4 sets of spark plugs, had to drill a small hole in the bottom of the intercooler because it would near hydrolock on humid days, the two turbos were already dumping a ton of oil into the intercooler and smoke out the exhaust after sitting a day, the rear window decided to leak and soak half the headliner, the drive shaft slip yolk seizing up.... I could keep going on and on about that truck. Anyways, to your point, reliability is a huge factor. So is not having to worry about all these other little annoyances.

FYI you can get 60hp out of basic bolt ons and tune with the 2gr-fks engine. Ovtune bumps power up by 40hp. now you’re only talking 20hp difference which can easily be made up with headers and intake. A True Full bolt on and tuned 2018+ Lexus Is350 which has the EXACT same engine makes right around 350-360hp on pump gas w said mods NA.......granted it’s all high rpm gains but peak hp w the supercharger is the same?!?!? Lol My truck which has an adjusted version of Ovtunes 93 octane tune, intake, and a tundra 5.7 76mm throttle body pulls way harder than this easily! I can do standing burnouts easily in my taco. This supercharged version looks like it would be a struggle. I am guessing this is due to their lack of a proper tune because the fks engine should be close to 400hp with like 5-7 Lbs of boost on it easy especially with the high compression bottom end. This is nowhere near that. PS: Try to put a supercharger on something that isn’t an overland rig. Can we get some content from people actually chasing quarter mile times and trying to make the truck faster? Don’t tell me my broke self is the only one doing that 😂

Don’t waste your money folks, those 2GR-FKS 3.5s in the Tacoma suffer oil starvation if you off-road it and go over 20 degrees. They have NO dry sump, no baffles, and no proper oil drainage. It’s a Camry motor in a truck. Pathetic. The 4.0 never had oil starvation issues.

In the end, it’s still a Camry engine. People get hung up on hp, but low end torque - especially for a truck - is where it’s at. I owned a 2018 manual and a 2019 auto Tacoma - I ditched them both bc the power/torque was pitiful. Down right awful. I now have a factory supercharged Tundra. It’s glorious. With how much that Tacoma weighs, you should look at a full size pickup.

@@tacomabeast what about the new Ford Maverick? with the 2.0L Tubro with 250HP and 277LV of TQ and coming in a cheaper price point how do you think it would compare to your taco? i wonder how it would preform with the same setup as your ride and how it would handle it that would be a great comparison! I hope you can do a video on that!!!! it would be amazing and I wonder what differences you would encounter Tacoma vs Maverick and which would be the better buy. now that would be amazing video to watch and see your input also keep up the great work on your videos I'm loving it even though I have a ford at the moment

Now that you've got the Acceleration, you may want to look at Upgrading the Deceleration. Drum brakes suck. I don't know if there are Disk based upgrades for the Taco now, but I'd look at adding BEEF-ier Disks to the fronts, because of all that added weight, but the backs will help stop that beast too....

Only 60 horsepower gain? And $7K+? Ngl, that’s HORRENDOUS. I’d be curious to know if you did more supporting mods like fuel injectors, fuel pump, a different and better flowing air intake, headers and complete high flow exhaust if you could get another 20-30hp with a new tune. Because for all that money, and to not get 300hp is pretty terrible.😕 You might as well swap a V8 into it like a 1UZ or 2UZ. Or even a SB350. Better sound, more supporting mods and the power/torque is there before adding forced induction. But comes the trouble of wiring it and making it work with the trans, ecu, etc. Idk. Just rambling thoughts.

We did see significant gains after tuning as well but it would be interesting to see how other mods affect the hp as well 🤙

Makes me wonder if I keep my weight down and don’t have as big tires how much power my 23’ TRD OR would feel. I probably won’t go over 33 inch tires and doubt I’ll be over over 5300 pounds ever. I’m not looking for that same overland build that’s a full build. Any thoughts? Is it worth doing this to my new taco? I only have 1k miles on it and now that I have a company vehicle it really won’t gain a lot of miles. My feedback I would love

@@Fish4Joe That's at the crank. His tires are also robbing HP. My biggest complaint with this truck is the completely laughable torque curve, which this appears to greatly help with. IMO though, a turbo ranger is a better buy at this time. Especially once you start adding weight.
@NorincioAgnaran

ROFL Dustin tried to save you after the dyno 14:53 by saying "the bigger weighted tires" but you still kept pushing how much your truck weighs. On the road your truck has to push it's own weight, on the dyno your truck is pushing the rollers (and they don't care how heavy your truck is.) The weight hurts your acceleration, not horsepower. Otherwise you've definitely earned the Tacoma"Beast" That is one amazing taco!

And this is why you get a Z71 Suburban or Tahoe from the start. Better payload and power from the start, because everyone wants big tires and all the bells and whistles. I will never ever ever never sell my $2.45 E85 100 plus octane per gallon burning, comfy do it all lifted Suburban. Just my opinion. :)

$6,500 for a supercharger that increases 60+hp? Wouldn't a stage 2/3 ECU flash, 15-20% throttle choke increase, and just a simple K&N Engineering Air Filter get you there for like $1,000? Hell even hotter spark plugs with a quick flash can get you at least 5-7hp... i just feel like there's better ways to increase HP with minimizing engine deterioration and killing your bank account. :/

@EV As a former Taco owner, I'm SURE you're correct. However, the question is, is the cost worth the very menial upgrade in performance? I think I speak for most in saying hell no. Toyota needs to produce a Taco engine that is near 300 HP with sufficient torque. GM can; why can't Toyota? They just need to cut to the chase and put the 4.6 as an option to the Taco.

@EV I've driven it. I don't know that I'd call it a dog. In a Tundra it doesn't match the 5.7, of course (not even close, I guess), and you really wouldn't want to get it in the Tundra because the gas mileage differential isn't great enough to justify the loss of power. However, with the Tacoma weighing significantly less than the Tundra, the 4.6 could be the engine that makes this thing a decent highway vehicle and something that makes pulling something at higher speeds suck less. As you said, neither the SC or the 4.6 is going to turn the Tacoma into a rocket, but that isn't really the point. As you know, the V8 makes all the difference in the world over a V6 when passing from 60-80 on the highway. THAT was THE reason I got rid of my Taco -- though I think I may be in the market for another one as highway driving will not be as big an issue for me anymore (and i may just get an older Lexus sedan as a third car).
