Hey my ole friend I have run nitro in my Jr fuel dragster & in my racing karts. First let me ask you some questions. How what % of nitro are you trying to run? What oil are running? & what percent are you running. No one runs 100% nitro in a 2 stroke, so I hope you are not trying to do that. 25% is alot for a two stroke. Even in my dragster I kept it no more than 50% even though some guys ran more, they also blew up a lot of engines. Also you do not have to run over 20 to 1 oil mix. Remember your fuel to air mixture is under 7 to 1 with nitro & alky, so you are already getting plenty of oil at that mix. Just things to consider. Remember also mixing oil heavy fuel makes for heavy viscosity & screws up fuel flow & setting. Hope this helps.

Been following since first video almost, yea that made me super happy, can't believe he didn't change to a bigger carb (or fuel injection) long before. He clearly knew, even i could tell it was actually running out of fuel. When i heard it run under load now, that was so damn exciting! I don't fully understand the dyno. I guess it depend on the pivot and how much load that sensor see? Then i should be pretty accurate if his measurements where right. 15hp crank is already impressive! Can't wait until he adds boost and timing!
@TheMoistpotato
@TheMoistpotato 2 жыл бұрын
@@Xfacehack Yeah, i think hes close to the point that efi will probably give him the adjustability and tuneability especially thru the wild flow profiles this engine will have. Again, carbs do work, but i suspect this engine will have a extremely wild fuel flow profile which might be very difficult to achieve a nice idle mixture all the way to WOT at redline with these types of carbs.. At least with efi he could have a dynamic flow chart/profile which will allow him to keep fuel flow efficient.. And yes, typically the load is measured around the pivot point which is typically the crankshaft planar point. I dont quite know how he is compensating for the offset pivot (torque moment) in his torque values especially since the engine is basically trying to "claw itself up the drive chain" with a offset pivot, in simplistic terms. It is calculable, but definitely makes the math more difficult. Regardless, what he has achieved is fantastic!

My guess, and that all it is, would be timing will make a huge difference. If you’re only at 15 degrees I’d say it’ll take double or triple that. I know nitro 4 stroke hemi engines back in the early days loved as much as 60. In fact that’s how Don Garlits started setting world records with the 426, by adding timing to try and blow the engine up, because he didn’t like them as much as the 392.

I love your channel! Amazing what a dedicated individual can do. Congrats on making it your full time job! I suggest a spring loaded chain tensioner. If you maximize the wrap around the small sprocket, you can transmit more torque. Also have a spring loaded tensioner would greatly reduce the swing in the long chain in between pushing/pulling phases. And please, put a guard between you and any moving part. If the chain snaps it could really cripple you!

Or let it be controlled by a servo motor or something. That engine is getting brutal man keep it going.

The slide needs sorting along with a decent return spring. I would like to see the carb operated by a twist grip and brake lever operating the retarder manually. More pull on the lever more current to the retarder coils. The lever could be used as a emergency stop by pulling hard stalling the retarder and engine. This would allow one hand operation.

I would suggest dropping the D in your PID to zero. Get your P and I working smoothly first. Often times you don't need the D and it can introduce a ton of oscillation in your loop. I usually start with only P, bringing it up until I see significant oscillation, then back it down and begin adding in the Integrator. That should help get your load control smoothed out, then you can tune your engine with a stable load

This is just a thought; I think your waste-gate that your using for boost control is contributing to the massive amount of fuel consumption and making the carburetor seem smaller than it actual is, given the power made....I would think as long as you keep the pulley size that you have now, that it could be eliminated from the circuit.....I think another issue that the waste-gate may cause, is being that it’s a pressure differential device (not load sensitive) it opens in both relation to throttle input and rpm....which could be leaning out certain speed / load operating regime’s but operate totally different in others....making the carb “numb” to adjustment.

My Cr 500 uses fuel like a 250 !!! Not only is the economy increased but the thermal brake efficiency is 20 to 25 % better !!! The powerband is as wide if not wider then its ever been and ive been riding this bike. For 25 plus years ,now so im well aware of the difference, the "Stratified Fuel Charge modification " ive incorporated into the auxiliary fuel ports ,basically injecting fresh air into these ports ,to cut down on short circulating fresh unburnt fuel charge out the EXHAUST !!! When i first started it with this mod. It ran so over of a fuel charge due too the air acting a vapor barrier trapping the charge in to bottom and,primary ports !!! At first i thought it was rich due too the the build being freshly assembled with the extra oil from assembly that would,normally blow out and clear up relatively quickly !!! But it nust would not clear out smoke like crazy so overrich, which from the PDF file i acquired online ,said that this would infact happen and rejecting the CARBURETOR was going to be absolutely nessary !!! And boy they were not kidding ,i just about had to jet it down to really close to the same size jets a 250cc bike !!! So basically i am using almost half as much fuel ,gaining power ,reliability and wider range of disability as well !!! Its been one the smartest things ive done to my ,my super Frankenstein one off Cr500 with 2004 YZF ,grafted go fast and lightening up of the over all bike as well as giving it a more modern nimble lije feel of your more modern 2 and 4 stroke latter model counter parts !!! I used everything from a 2004 YZ250 AND OR YZF 428 450 !!! THE SUB FRAME AIR BOX REAR SWINGER SHOCK LINKAGE ,REAR 19 INCH TITANIUM SPOKED WHEEL SEAT TANK ALL THE PLASTICS ,THE ONLY THINGS FELT ACTUALLY HONDA IS THE AWSOME MOTOR AND THE OLE 92 STEAL FRAME !!! IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A HONDA AT ALL , BUT ITS SO MUCH FASTER THEN ANY YAMNAHA AND MOST HONDAS AS WELL !!! ITS TRULLY A OFF MACHINE ,WITH OTHER MODS AS WELL THAT IM KEEPING UNDER MY HAT !!! AS WELL AS FEW MORE MODS IVE BEEN RARELY WANTING TO INCORPORATE AS WELL THAT ARE STRAIGHT FROM THE RESEARCH AND STEADY THE WAS PART OF THE "STRATIFICATION FUEL CHARGE MOD PDF !!! IVE BEEN KEEPING TABS ON MOST OF WHAT PEOPLE ARE RIDING AND RUNNING AS FAR AS 2 STOKES GO ,AND IM NOT SEEING THE STRATIFIER FUEL MOD BEING INCORPORATED??? WHICH SEEMS ,REDUNDANT OF THE INDUSTRY AS IT IS A FAIRLY SIMPLE MODIFICATION ,AND USES ,ALOT OF READILY AVAIBLE PARTS ,AUTOMOTIVE PRIMARILY !!! AND CAN BE DONE TO PRETTY MUCH ANY 2 STROKE !!! THE WHOLE REAL IDEA BEHIND IT WAS FOR EMISSION RELATED PROBLEMS WITH 2 STROKE , UNBURNT FUEL CHARGE SHORT CIRCUITING OUT THE EXHAUST AND THE FACT THAT BILLIONS OF SMALLER 2 CYCLES IN ASIA ,CHINA AND ALL OVER MIDDLE AND FAR EAST ,RELY ON THEM AND ARE NOT GOING AWAY ANY TIME SOON ,AND THE MODS HAD TO BE A RETRO FIT SO THAT, IT DID NOT REQUIRE A SPECIAL NEW MOTOR DESIGN OR HAVING TO BY ANYTHING EXTRA SPECIAL AT ALL AND COULD BE EASILY DONE BY MIST ANYONE WHO HAS A GOOD WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF BASIC 2 CYCLE, BUILDING ,MAINTANCE AND TUNING !!! SOMEWHERE I BELIEVE I STILL HAVE THE PDF ,BUT ITS BEEN 7 or 8 years now and it sorta went away into the cloud and i cant remmeber the research teams name ,but they were from India i believe ,they covered all sorts of thing all of which i basically retained in my brain ,hence not worrying about holding the PDF !!! I READ IT LIKE S BIBLE FOR A FEW YEARS ,UNTIL I MEMORIZED IT AND BUILT ONTO IT WITH MY OWN KNOWLEDGE USE OF PARTS AND DESIGN !!! ITS ACTUALLY PRETTY SAFE AND FLEXIBLE IN LAY OUT, AND SOME BASIC FAILURES HAVE NOT AT ALL BEEN AS BAG AS ONCE THOUGHT THEY COULD BE !!! AND HAVE NOT DAMAGE ANYTHING , INTERNALLY, RHE FEW TIMES I HAD ONE OR MORE LINES PULL APART AND CUASE A HUGE VACUUM FREASH AIR LEAK , USUALLY NOT GOOD FOR STANDARD BIKE FUEL DELIVERY AND ENGINE ROTATING ASSEMBLY !!! INFACT ITS ALMOST LIKE A FAIL SAFE , IT WILL NOT RUN HARDLY AT ALL WHEN YOU HAVE A AIR LEAK , AND LIKE THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED ,I HAD TO FORCE OT TO RUN ,BEFORE I REALIZED WHAT THE DEAL WAS AND YEAH ,BY FORCING IT ,I ALL MOST BLEW IT UP AS IT STARTED AUTO FIREING AND THE KILL SWITCH DID NOT DO SHIT , SO PUT THE FRONT WHEEL AGAINST A FENCE PUT IT IN THIRD OR FOURTH GEAR ,AND GENTLY FRIED THE CLUTCH FOR A SECOND TILL IT DIED ,THE LEAN MIX DOES NOT LIJE ENGINE LOADING AT ALL AND DIES RELATIVELY EASY !!! WHEN YOU ARE AWARE AND DON'T, USE THE TRROTTLE AND CLUTCH COAHSING IT TO RUN AND THEN GET HOT REAL FAST AND RUN AWAY SCREAMER , KILL SWITCH DELETE !!! LAST COUPLE OF MALFUCTIONS THAT WERE HOSE CONNECTION RELATED I COULDNT KEEP IT RUNNING ANYWAY AS I SOON FIGURED WHAT WAS UP AND NOW I REALLY MAKE SURE MY HOSES AND FITTINGS ARE WELL FASTENED !!! ITS BEEN A LEARNING CURB THATS WELL RECIEVED FOR ME ANYWAYS AS IT HAS REALLY ,GIVEN ME A LEG UP ON ALL OTHER 2 STROKE RIDERS AND ENGINE BUILDERS !!!

Looking at the results from the speedway carb tests it seems as though Alex may have found the correct carb for the job. I can't understand how such a large carb can be used on such a tiny engine with a 40mm bore. I can't understand why you need such a large carb when there is so much fuel/air being lost through the dump valve. I suggested going back to petrol some time ago but Alex is firmly set on using RC fuel so much so he has gone and ordered a lorry load. I feel Petrol is more suitable for testing allowing a base line to be drawn then this can be stepped upto RC fuel levels later. Mind you it's all fun to watch! I was hoping that there would be a new video out Wednesday but I think he must be busy making chain guards for the dyno. Sorry for waffling, Malc.

When you mentioned the gasket leaking I wanted to say that a great product to have in the shop is silver RTV silicone gasket maker. The silver is high temp rated and you can seal almost anything temporarily and the correct stuff permanently. Obviously 3m, permatex and other companies offer it but the best brands available are the OEM stuff the Japanese car makers use when building cars. They can be expensive but "Hondabond" is not too bad and it's arguably one of the best available. The dealership parts department always has it in stock and you can make gaskets, seal leaks, glue things together and much more. Just my two cents.

Your load cell is mounted wrong, which is why it reads high. It should be tangent to the rotation of the engine block and in this case it's not so the pressure gets multiplied by 1/cos(angle). Angle being the angle that it is off by from tangent. Also that race carb reminded be of a certain guy in the local flea market who sometimes brings huge billet aluminum carbs that have a small hole in them (20-30mm) and i've never been able to figure out what they're meant for but i guess people might have been developing carbs and those were the leftovers from that process.

Also consider that short straight exhaust stub will resonate and return a positive wave returning to the exhaust port which can interfere with exhaust flow, hence a tapered lead and a diffuser of about 9 degrees.😉

AWESOME WIDEO, I love watching a fellow CRAFTSMAN tinkering around in a PERFECT GARAGE!!! As soon as you put that "NEW" carb on, I thought 💭 💭 Hmmmmmm, didn't those Keihin "FLAT SLIDE" carbs with the lil "WAGON SLIDES" have wheels for making the slide move & eliminate the "SUCTION STUCKTION" problems when trying to operate with a flexible wire cable & even with that they still went to the "PUSH PULL" two cable throttle assemblies so that you didn't need to be "POP-EYE" to override the return spring?!?!?!?

I'm hoping Alex will be doing some crank balancing videos as soon as we get back to the PiP project. The vibration was so bad on the SPX variant that the needle wouldn't seat right causing fuel fountains from the carb. I feel better crank balance will lead to better performance.

@@Tootall206 Hello, Just out of boredom I re watched the video again and watched closely around the 9 minute mark for the carb vibrating but I couldn't see it! What I did see was the dump valve shaking at the front of the engine, this has being commented on previously that it needs a bracket. Is this is this the item your referring to.

Awesome and it's good to see ot working out now , only thing is if your increasing the boost would it also be worth changing the size of the rotary valve so your not loosing too much fuel and air so it's open for a shorter time . Just a thought

looks like its time to get an exhaust gas sensor and start tuning the fuel mix/rpm and refining the rpm advance curve. at first i thought you would need fuel mix compensation for the air density change due to the supercharger, but i think that is only the vortex styles that need it.

Hello, I see lots of people commenting similar to you. I have asked before how you would go about making a fuel map for such a dirty engine with oil pouring onto the floor. Does it make a difference with it being a two stroke? I have asked this question before but received no answer, can you help as I come from the clockwork era. Could anyone else answer this question for me. Cheers Malc.

On anything that has to deal with exhaust heat try using thin copper or even aluminum (like from a can) or thin stainless (like office air conditioning ducting) so it'll be less likely to burn out than regular paper gasket.

i think you should use a torque wrench without adapters and extensions because it messes with the torque reading of the wrench. heard it somewhere, i think it was AvE's channel so it could very well be true, you should look into that if you want to use it as a calibration method :)

This happens with positive displacement blowers(superchargers) a 300cc blower is the equivalent of increasing the engines displacement by 300cc. :-) btw i can't wait to see this beast in a moped or bicycle!! Its going to absolutely rip!! Keep up the good work as always.
@Henning_S.
@Henning_S. 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the gear ratio between crankshaft and blower... In his current setup, the pressure regulator dumps all the excess air fuel mixture into the exhaust, so it is impossible to calculate how much usable displacement it has in reality. It will massively reduce the fuel consumption, if the dumped air fuel mixture is injected between carb and blower, so it can be reused...
@Surestick88
@Surestick88 2 жыл бұрын
@@Henning_S. If you recirculate the fuel air mix back into the carb it will go rich as the carb will be adding more fuel to an already appropriate mix.
@Henning_S.
@Henning_S. 2 жыл бұрын
@@Surestick88of course, that is why I wrote "between carb and blower" if you inject it behind the carb, it doesn't get richer, it reduces the amount of air flowing through the carb and therefore saves a lot of fuel....

What about biting the bullet and going with fuel injection? Seems a two stage approach would be ideal, with some cooling advantage too... It seems you have all of the electronics in place.
