I bet the pressure from the blower is pushing the slide into the rails... you could try simply coating the rails and edges of the slide with teflon, or other dry lubricant and seeing if that fixes it first before cramming more spring on top of it. Great work so far!
@georgedreisch26622 жыл бұрын
I agree. Blasting the slide with glass media, to provide good adhesion, then spraying and baking it with a good dry film lubricant leaves me thinking it should help.
@dirtyfingerprints94702 жыл бұрын
Look at the pressure difference! How much boost is there at the moment? The boost works against the slide and hinders it from coming down. ...Or im totally wrong...
@2STROKESTUFFING2 жыл бұрын
That's the problem. Not only the pressure delta before/after slide, but also over/under. That line I added to the top was to make over/under better.
@AimlessMoto2 жыл бұрын
@@2STROKESTUFFING Right, but it's not about equalizing the pressure so much as taking away the lateral force on the slide. In this instance a round-slide would probably work to cut through the charged air better, but it would defeat the purpose of what you're trying to accomplish. Polishing the slide ends may net you the results you want just by getting rid of friction rather than increasing force on the spring.

something to think about is that the compressor is trying to shove a huge amount of air through that slide valve. It's got an enormous amount of sideways pressure on it basically. You probably should skip trying to put heavier springs on it, and just have a push/pull throttle cable pair.

My hunch is that you are actually forcing air past the slide, which is then picking up fuel and causing that hanging throttle. After all, carb slides don't stick on overrun on a NA engine where there is a massive pressure differential.
@johannesdesloper84342 жыл бұрын
Fun, you need a butterfly air control valve. That will equalize the forces on the valve and prevent sticking. Pressure differential on the air valve puts a force on it.

Loving the content! In terms of the sticky slide, would it be worthwhile using a servo to control the slide. It will give the push/pull capabilities. When the engine gets put in a bike, it could make it possible for one electronic throttle to control both the throttle and sliding reed valve (if that also will be controlled by a servo) according to what the engine requires at certain rpms.

The 'problem' with 'sticking slide' has been known about for at least 70 years to my knowledge. It's not the spring but a combination of pressure and surface area. Get a carb from an RMZ400 or similar MX bike, they have wheels on the slide to prevent it sticking open. Having a flat slide makes things worse if you don't have opening and closing cables. On a four stroke motor, the high vacuum causes slide to jamb, your problem is boost pressure causing the same , pushing slide against housing.

Unlike a roots blower, a centrifugal blower outputs a roughly constant pressure at any given rpm. Even if you block it off the pressure does not rise much. That's why the blow off valve is not tripping when you close the throttle.

Amazing that it idles so nicely. Does the set screw you used to plug the nitrous hole tighten against something, or could it possibly vibrate all the way in and get ingested by the engine? I've had something similar happen and the engine was a total writeoff. Maybe countersink the hole for a flathead screw instead, to eliminate that possibility?

IMHO easiest fix for the throttle is to switch to a marine push pull cable. make a "knob" that fits the where the standard cable goes into the slide, and threads on to the end of the boat cable, add a bracket at each end to hold the cable housing (just buy one for cheap, and mod it to work) and get back to running it

Bowden cable to push reed valve slide closed, instead of relying on interior spring? Rig a spring on the other end of the cable so you can get a good spring rate and travel. Now the beast is starting to awaken! For the slide stuck issue why dont you try to use a rigid cable made of steel? Then you can put the flexible one outside of your carb and you can even add external springs for stronger return. Actually the boost from your turbo is smashing the slide against its seat so it's hard to make it move freely without any rigid solution
