uhhhhh...no it wasn't. This was at the limit of depravity even back then. The video was banned because it was so shocking and belonged in x-rated/soft porn distribution back then and still would/should be now. Don't attempt to normalize it.

@@Smokie_666 do a quick internet search and it will confirm it was banned. And why wouldn't this video be offensive? Especially for children viewing it? Its about gay swinging in bars, with a fat naked dude literally ejaculating on the dudes below him, with other dudes dressed up in their leathers, cowboy chaps and whatever other YMCA garb. Who wants this playing on television where it can only contribute to the normalization of depravity and lowering of moral standards - none of what was shown needed to be shown.

@@RobRochon Normalize ? Hardly. That's the whole point. It was UNDERGROUND and should have remained so. That's what was so much fun back in the 80's -the secrecy of it all. It wasn't meant for popular consumption but Corporatism had to exploit it all and spoil the mystery and fun of exclusivity.

Yeah there are two "eighties" in music, there is the cool post-punk 1978-1984 or thereabouts period where this fits in and the much blander late 80s period.

c'mon dude. This was anything but "normal" then or now. Anyone claiming that it has ever been "normal" is doing so in an attempt to normalize depravity and immorality. This video was banned after it came out. I remember seeing it for the first time and was completely shocked by the content which belongs in soft-porn/x rated issue and not as mainstream video distribution to our children. Give it a break.

@@fidel2xl A lot of people fooled themselves, or just didn't believe that that stuff was "gay", seriously. Also remember EJ and FM married women to hide their gay identity back then. The drag queen stuff was accepted by many people as just men dressing up for entertainment. There was a lot of happy delusion among people who were uncomfortable with gays because those people liked those acts.

All we wanted to do was dance dance dance! Extended versions at clubs were mixed and nonstop. Watch dance club vids from 80s/early 90s - nobody is dancing the same unless you copied someone else. Everyone was an individual with their own style but you could easily dance with strangers because we shared the ❤

Having been born in the very early 60's I can say over the decades I have seen ALOT of crazy sh!t because that is what interested me, but the 80's era was something unique and will probably never be repeated, it was the ultimate expression of Sex Drugs and Rock-n-Roll industrialized, mass consumed, fueled by crony capitalism and oceans of money but still the beast was insatiable until we found ourselves in water too deep to tread, strewn with the shells of fevered delusions and the offal of bad choices. But...we had a hell of a good time finding that truth, a VERY good time; so be it.

@@millasboo ah, i suppose if you weren’t around at the time? As I say, this is filmed in Liverpool, in the club I used to go to every week. Frankie were from liverpool and Holly Johnson, Paul Rutherford et Al were part of the local scene. I suppose people imagine LGBTQ was invented in the 21st century, but from when I started going out in my mid teens I suppose, the punk scene was burgeoning and gay/straight/trans etc we were all in that big old melting pot. It was just a great, fun time to be young

@@millasboo stupidly, the BBC banned this video from Top of the Pops. Which immediately made sure, like so many songs before it, this went straight to number one. Being banned from TOTP was pretty much the best thing that could happen to a group!
