A note on silicon carbiding the Walther SF grips... if you don't like how it feels, Walther DOES NOT sell replacement OEM grips. According to their CS, "it is not a replaceable part," so they won't sell you any spares and you have to pay more for Lok grips.

Saw a ZRT video where I’m pretty sure they said the long stroke can use either a 14.6 (listed as 14 on website) or 16 pound spring.

I shot my buddy's polymer PDP with a 15lb spring and compared to the long stroke spring it was much better on the return. The long stroke rod/spring would dip and make follow ups lag a bit vs a normal length 15lb. And this was clearly noticeable after a few shots trying them back to back.

For what it’s worth: it seems like you’re overdriving the gun downward. They make a 16lb spring in the long stroke now because so many people have complained about the return being slow. This hasn’t been my experience but I plan on testing it and comparing notes.

i tried the zr tactical springs gthe 15 and the 18lb ones neither one had the spring weight of the factory spring the issue i find is that if you load a full magazine then chamber a round leave the mag in the gun pull the gun out of battery and do a press check then slowly let it go forward none of the zr tactical springs would make the gun go into battery ,however the factory one does it every time no matter how slow you let itgo , i tried on the 4 inch poly and the fullsize steel frame , so for a more reliable gun stick with factory springs !! nice review though

@@falconp226 the slide slowly going into battery isn’t typically how a gun functions so I’m not sure I’d let that be the point of reason. But no worries, to each their own.

@ thanks! I mostly shoot just your basic Blazer Brass 115 or PMC 115 standard for classes and practice. I just like to shoot about 50 rounds of my 124+p every couple of months just to make sure it!s cycling and to check my optic zero with it. I may just go with the 17 lb to be safe. Not worried about softening the recoil because the perceived “snappiness” some talk about doesn’t bother me. I just want a steel guide rod for reliability and the little extra mass.

Right around the 17k mark my SF match had to get sent back to walther for repair. Took the slide off the frame to give it a quick wipe down before the 2nd day of a Steve Anderson class and when I went to put it back together the slide would not go back on the frame. Later that night I was able to inspect it further and came to the conclusion that the barrel feed ramp was hitting into the locking block. I didn’t think to check the pin and now I wish I would have because I believe that was the catalyst to the problem. I’m betting that the pin was broke and in turn it damaged my locking block. It’s been sitting at walther waiting for them to get a locking block in so they can replace it and send it back to me. I sent it to them at the beginning of September. Since then I have seen this issue come up with a few others with higher round counts and all they had to do was replace the pin. Even though this is a bummer I fully agree that if you use your gear and run it hard eventually something will break. I have 2 other SF’s to hold me over in the mean time and I am sticking with the plate form.

no im not saying that is typical of a running pistol operation however it makes for a more reliable pistol for a longer period of time before it starts to fail to go into battery and need a new recoil spring sooner , the pdp has a stronger striker spring than (lets say a glock) so if you wanted to make more reliable you should lower the striker spring weight along with the recoil spring weight , i get it if its just a uspsa gun only for you but i put reliability first ,it sucks to loose time even in a match over a malfunction . good video though , i might have to try the grip texturing out on one of my pdps

I prefer flat triggers so I do that in almost all my Walthers. I think I have 1 that doesnt have 1 of the 3 flat triggers. I have been almost primarily a Walther shooter since the OG M1 PPQ. Since the release of the PDP and having taken multiple classes with Jedi I think I have a magwell on all but 1 gun now as well. Not for the speed of reloading but how it helps the pinky apply pressure and control recoil. I run a comp on half my guns only. Just so I have something I can shoot at matches that wont put me in open. I have not ported anything yet but that is on the to do list. I also finally started switching out the guide rods to the ZR stuff. Currently running 1 captured 15 and an ultra mass. I tried the 4.5 long stroke in my 4.5 but it actually exploded and came apart on me at the first range function test.

I'll never spend a dime at that awful company. I sent a Springfield Hellcat into them to get milled for a 507k and they broke the front sight. Instead of informing me and asking what I wanted to do, they installed a suppressor height front sight with a standard height rear sight. Never mentioned anything and sent the slide back to me. When I informed them of this, over multiple emails across several months, they refused to acknowledge their responsibility. I eventually ended up at a Jedi class, and told him of the problem I was having. He was able to reach out and nudge someone to get in touch with me. After which point the owner accused me of trolling/making a fuss about a non-issue that I had given them months to address. They finally gave me a $70 refund or something so I could get an appropriate height front sight. Not sure how they broke the front sight, but their lack of communication and then the way the owner accused me of being the problem turned me off from ever doing business with them again. Now they make cheap red dots....no thanks.
