You have to change the Drive Policies in Device Manager to enable write caching to improve write speeds when using external USB drives in Windows. It tends to configure them for "quick removal" by default.

After watching this all the way through twice (after the unfortunate cute cat distraction) and coming away with some feeling of it being a tad all over the place, my inner Tom Cruise then came to the fore with a simple thought. You had me at 5.21. Whilst still a chunk of change, for those that will benefit from the speeds, likely a worthwhile investment.

So what's the big deal? USB4 with a 40Gbps speed is a known performance spec that has been in place for some years now. Zike is just a brand.

They sent him the case. I love all these oddball configurations. WFT! attch this to a windows laptop and a windows pc. Why on earth would you boot from an ext usb enclosure. Just asking for issues.
@chinesepopsongs002 ай бұрын
The big deal is that many cases that use the title actually not reach the spec. So even if this is sponsored it shows what speed this thing actually reaches.
@Rushil69420Ай бұрын
Have you tried any USB4 NVME drives? Almost none get close to the promised 40Gbps. This drive is measurably one of the fastest in its class.
@Rushil694202 ай бұрын
After a few months of use the USB-C port on my Zike drive has actually become quite finicky. Side-to-side movement of the cable causes an interruption to the connection. I should probably reach out to Zike about it but it doesn't give me any problems as long as I don't touch the device while using it. It is definitely the fastest hot plug solution for USB4 NVME that I've tried yet though.
@terrydaktyllus13202 ай бұрын
USB may get faster with each generation but the connectors get crappier. USB-C breaks very easily, due to being designed for stupid people who cannot work out how to plug a USB-A cable in the right way round.

@@erikkarsies4851 if it was a USB 4 drive it looks like they aren’t as supported for booting an os. Did you try plugging it into usb 3 socket?
@terrydaktyllus13202 ай бұрын
It has nothing to do with Batocera - it may be a Linux driver issue or could even be an electrical issue with the cable or the circuitry inside the casing. This is where having some knowledge of fault finding and problem isolation can help you locate the cause - but please do a bit more than just blame the first thing you can think of. The whole concept of modern operating systems (including crappy ones like Windows) is that the device is handled by the OS kernel, not the application.

@@terrydaktyllus1320 No I've tested out the other options. I'm now using it with another SSD for a Pi4 and now using 'the old one' with the same SSD and it works fine in Batocera on a USB4 port. Linux is great , but different distro's in the whole ecosystem are a mess and the attitude you are showing is so typical if you need support for a specific distro. Orico drives are slow, never top performers even in USB 3.2! The Zike is reasonable, why the need for USB4 really, should not be used for anything except data archiving, transfer, or system drives for SBC such as Raspberry Pi.
