I’ve watched more than a dozen of these Zoe Shorts and think this is one of the best of a great series. A big concept from Sarah….. no such thing as a single superfood, just a super diet, and the concept of super swaps. Thanks for talking such sense and sweeping away much confusion about food.🙏🏾

Given the rising obesity rates, I suggest that we have a good deal of malnutrition, not caused by a lack of food but by too much of the wrong (often highly processed) food.

I get confused about the whole grains thing when I watch pasta grannies and all I see is 100 year old ladies making pasta with white flour, the mediterranean diet actually has a lot of refined carbs, yet we refer to it as the best. It's just a bit confusing messaging for me personally, I dont quite understand the messaging on the refined being bad, but then the old ladies are making white pasta and living long lives. On a side note I also don't think Italians would be keen to have wholemeal pasta LOL!

I disagree with the statement that malnutrition does not exist in our latitudes. We seem to have an abundance of food, including healthy ones. But dysbiosis, SIBO and leaky gut often prevent the absorption and metabolism of nutrients, which is why there is quite often nutrient deficiency and therefor dysfunctional health issues.

Over fed but undernourished... a typical Western diet of calorie dense processed food but devoid in polyphenols and other antioxidants, micronutrients, fibre, pre and probiotics etc.

Thanks for this podcast. I was left with two questions. (1) I understand that "super-food" is not some kind of medicine replacement. However, I used to think of super-food not in this way, but rather as a "top food" in its class. For example, if blueberries have double the amount of nutrients (or vitamins) of other berries , couldn't it be considered a "super-food" in the berries class? (same for Salmon in the fish class or Olive oil in the oils class etc.) (2) One small question - if olive oil is so good, does it mean that olives themselves can also be considered as a "top food"?

Dr Pradip Jamnadas (Cardiologist) recommends in his KZbin videos that we should remove carbs from our diet (pasta etc), but eating fatty meat and butter is ok. Other doctors suggest we should be eating a plant based diet. What is best for our long term health?

UNBELIEVABLE! Not one mention of unprocessed ruminant meat - by far the best alround superfood for humans. No mention of adequate protein to prevent malnutrition 🙄. No wonder people are so confused about what is or is not the best foods to eat.

Not one mention of pastured eggs or organ meats (especially liver). Nothing about fish eggs. Just the old and tired "eat the rainbow" orthodoxy.

Hi Jonathan Wolf, I heard you say you had food intolerances in the previous video. Same here but I suspect they might be allergies but in the Mucosal Immune System. I could be wrong. But I can give you some clues as to how you might easily repopulate your gut bacteria with those parasite bacteria Tim has and says are good. I would be interested in the results too. I had to repopulate my gut bacteria twice. Once after having poor bacteria since I was 18 months old and had high doses of penicillin to treat pneumonia plus further antibiotics though my life and again after taking strong antibiotics to treat a hand wound. It worked for me. I am not signed up to ZOE but support what you are about and follow your channel. I spent 30 years looking into how to repopulate my gut bacteria and a few years ago managed it. I also have several food allergies which mainly affect my mucosal system. I react to these foods fairly quickly by sneezing or a runny nose or sore throat and cough. But this is not a systemic immune response but a mucosal response. The problem is that even the mucosal response causes systemic inflammation which for me caused lifelong misery and even a heart attack. Mucosal allergies are much more dangerous long term than they first appear I found so need to be dealt with. I have few problems now but am still interested in a gut microbiome upgrade because mine could certainly be improved on. My food allergies are still there and successfully avoided by excluding the troublesome pathogens. I suspect even with a perfect gut microbiome those allergies would remain because they are programmed in, but I could be wrong. Great work you do. 👍

I sometimes wonder whether the guys from Zoe just want to overcomplicate definitions for the sake of doing so. Saying there are no “superfoods” but there are “super healthy foods” is straining out the Nat it seems to me. So here’s an example of what I eat for lunch yesterday. 1. Leafy green watercress 2. Avocado (chopped not good, apparently) 3. Apple (chopped so not good again) 4. Walnuts & Almonds (out of a bag from Morrisons???) 5. Cucumber (sliced so not good) 6. Oily fish ( tinned mackerel in olive oil) 7. Mixed Olives ( out of a Morrisons container???) 8. Celery (chopped - not good 9. Beetroot (chopped - not good) 9. Sprinkling of ground pepper (not good - altered) So would that meal be classified as good, bad or ugly according to Sarah Super?

Ironically the British sailors would have considered limes a super food! In a similar way those cured of Beri Beri and Pelagra would have have felt the same about the addition of vitamin B in their diet.

I slightly disagree on the no one is nutrient deficient. But if you are living under the bread line, many people will go for cheaper foods many of these are highly processed foods. they are so cheap because they are full of rubbish, addictives salt sugar etc. healthy foods are so expensive in comparison. So those under the breadline are going to fill up on nutrients poor food.
@LughSummerson2 жыл бұрын
Not true. Processing food is costly, so processed foods are more expensive. That's simple economics. A bag of potatoes and the cost to boil them is far cheaper than the equivalent amount of chips. A bag of salad is cheaper than 100g of chocolate. The ingredients for a stew or homemade curry are cheaper than the equivalent quantity of ready meals. It's laziness and lack of discipline, not cost. Name one supermarket where it's cheaper to buy processed foods than buying the equivalent unprocessed ingredients.
@Lilyandmoomin2 жыл бұрын
@@LughSummerson we will have to agree to disagree. By the time you habe bought the individual ingredients for a homemade pie or stew or chilli take into account you time and what your time is worth to you and then add the cost of the gas or electric needed to cook the homemade pie, stew or chilli. It will work out far more expensive than if you purchase something ready made. Because processed foods and meals are made in vast quantities the outlay for the raw ingredients are a lot less, that is of course if good quality ingredients are used. Products like chicken nuggets and preformed garlic kievs use mechanically retrieved meat ( often the things we wouldn’t eat) making this type of product even cheaper. Not to mention all the additives and preservatives to increase the shelf life , because the Ovens are always on there is no preheating required. The end result means the products work out cheaper. I used to work in this industry. And processed foods are far cheaper to purchase.
@LughSummerson2 жыл бұрын
@@Lilyandmoomin It's a myth based in a misunderstanding of the concept of food deserts. Name a supermarket where it is cheaper to buy processed food, or you're lying. Cooking food is cheap.
