Games claim to have "good graphics," but I have yet to see such beautiful style and pure art such as this backdrop and music in a video game now. Especially taking a look at Halo Reach's backdrops! It's not just about how fancy and realistic the lighting engine is. it's about this.

There’s something that this song that completes the chief vs mercy moment for me. It’s Calm, serene, yet two enemies are exchanging dialogue. Mercy knows he was left behind but still believes in the great journey. Ironically chief shows mercy and stalls the infection so he can get information. Chief could’ve smacked mercy around interrogation style but I do love the irony of connecting with mercy through mercy.
@Fallcooldude3 ай бұрын
I freaking love Mercys final words as well. Just the sentence "Earth to finish what we started. And this time none of you will be left behind" gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it. He does not attempt to beg for his life or asked to be mercy killed. He simply lets chief know that with earth finally discovered, truth is setting his final plan in action and taking the fight to humanity's home world once and for all.

Future generations will make fun of Halo for lacking depth, at least on Chief's part. Seriously, Chief has no character development whatsoever in the original trilogy.

@@ReveredDead Come to think of it, that's actually one of the reasons I was so drawn to the original trilogy as a kid. The fact Chief's face was never shown and no backstory was ever explained made me want to explore and find clues that might reveal his background. Of course, that didn't work out because no such secrets existed to be found.

@@abstract5249 There never needed to be any “development” for Chief. All we need to know is that he’s a super soldier that gets shit done nothing more. He’s likeable for just being a capable badass in itself. He’s a video game icon.

I was sitting here thinking about how much I was feeling while doing a few crunches and situps, finally noticed what was playing. The amount of emotion in the early series of this game with such an ambiguous nature is all I need to refocus on why I'm here. I feel like it's the perfect slow burn song to remind us of the cause, what ever it may be in the moment, to seek and expand that innate calling for something. Lost but not out, a lot of us are just missing in action. I love the thought of the return, it's so powerful. Chief is a symbol of characters and the embodiment of what we strive for inside, I know that each of us has a unique style, strategy and personality that works in conformity to such a great scale that goes far beyond what we feel in a day and night cycle in normal life. The ethereal plane is a strong and intense one and overflows within us all at times. Here's to you chief and all of us that played as the avatar we know and love. Cheers to a beautiful game and soundtrack of the ages.
