Phantom zones with a massive tornado, glowing evil magic orbs, spiders, and a demon monster appearing out of a wall stretching Supergirl, what were they smoking?? Supergirl first flying was cool though, quite enchanting really. And Helen Slater...

I remember the 'Supergirl' movie from 1984 starring Actress: Helen Slater. This film was NOT that bad. It was fairly descent. Actress: Helen Slater would not do anything related to Superman until 2007 when she made guest apperances on TV series, "Smallville". (2001-2011)

This classic Supergirl movie is not as bad as people make it out to be! The same goes with Superman III and Superman IV! All three movies featured nice things despite their flaws! Superman III featured Christopher Reeve playing a dark version of the Man of Steel! Supergirl featured Helen Slater playing the female version of Christopher Reeve! And Superman IV featured the return of Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor!

I think this film was a wasted opportunity. Instead of doing a separate Supergirl film after Superman III or doing Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, they should have made a Superman & Supergirl team up movie a couple of years after Superman III. This way, you can have a film that is technically a Superman IV, but with a fresh new angle, the introduction of Supergirl as a character.

This would have been a much better movie in the hands of a better director and a little bigger budget. All the talent was there otherwise. Hard to go wrong with Peter O'Toole and Faye Dunaway. It could have used a little better plot, too, I guess, but I don't remember the plot all that much. I haven't seen this movie in twenty five years. I only remember thinking Helen Slater absolutely nailed the role. Hard to see or imagine anyone else playing Supergirl even to this day. Quite honestly, she did for Supergirl what Christopher Reeves did for Superman. Just... the Supergirl movie as a whole wasn't quite together. I should watch it again to review it.
