Fan theory: Lena is half Kryptonian. If they are talking to a Kryptonian witch, it would make sense that Lena would have the same kind of magic, which would mean she's half Kryptonian, half Luthor. If she were, Kara would have another person like her to relate to. Kara wouldn't be alone. And that would be even more reason to make Supercorp canon!
