If you are familiar with the source material, Krypton had more advanced technology than Earth such as phantom zone projectors, so one could imagine a world where robot assistants are like a cheap countertop microwave or mini fridge to them. Besides, we all know which robot it was... Brainiac. Just took a souvenir city in a bottle and left just before Krypton exploded. Depends which story you read, but Brainiac either was actively involved in the Krypton's destruction or knew the planet was going to explode and hid it from the Kryptonians. The more interesting thing to bring up is the fact that there were only two rockets sent off before the planet exploded. Everyone else lacked intelligence, blindly trusted Brainiac/their government, was to poor to build their own rocket, or some combination of these and other factors. Of course, the most direct refutation to the claim of communism is the fact that the government was described by the comics and other source material. It varies between different stories, but is most often depicted as a monarchy, scientific democracy, and/or an oligarchy with a caste system.

And how to avoid destruction is already a deep, socio-philosophical question related to the social development of mankind. As long as one person can't achieve something without bad intentions, the desire of another person to stop it, be it a hero or an ordinary mortal, will not disappear. But if this is a specialized person (a hero or a government project), then, at a minimum, the magnitude and severity of the damage will be lower than expected.
