Most recently making her appearance in Iron Man 2 and The Avengers, Black Widow has a history dating back to the 1960s Tales of Suspense Comics. In that first iteration of the character she was named Natasha Romanova and was orphaned as the result of Nazis setting her family’s home on fire. Raised by a Russian soldier, she grew into a spectacular athlete that was recognized by the USSR and drafted into the KGB as a special operative. Becoming their best recruit she was dubbed ‘The Black Widow” and clashed with Iron Man while trying to gather information from Stark Industries. To answer your question that has already been brought up and answered, yes Fury is white in the main marvel universe, in the ultimates universe his character was changed to look like Samuel L. Jackson. Why? Because SLJ is a bad mofo and David Hasselhoff made a crappy movie playing Fury.

Nope, Natasha Romanova aka Black Widow was given a different version of the Super-Soldier Serum. This gave her physical abilities much like Captain America, though not as great as his. She possesses peak-level physiology, making her as strong, agile, fast, and durable as a female human can possibly be without being classified as superhuman. This also extends to her senses and immune system, which are similarly heightened to peak human level, as well as slowing her aging process.

Are you talking about her role in The Avengers movie that came out last year? Because even then she was pretty much freelancing because she wasn't going on missions for SHIELD. Her feelings for Hawkeye brought her join the team in order to save him. None of the 6 heroes were really members of The Avengers at the start of the movie and had to be convinced to join up. In the beginning of the movie it seemed like Stark previously could have been interested in the team but was disqualified because of his attitude. Even then they weren't even fully on board until Agent Coulson was killed by Loki.

In the comics, because of the Russian version of the Super Soldier serum her aging is extremely slowed. She was born in 1928 and is about 4 years younger than Steve Rogers, but looks like a woman in her late 20's.

you ignored the part where she was thrown out of the window by a woman, where in one storyline, the woman said to the soldier who were there at the time: "...you look like the captain general (STALIN) himself. She's a ROMANOFF..." then BOOM, a building fell on her. I think she could actually be a Russian royal in the comics, the last of the Romanovs (the last Imperial dynasty of Russia). Her origins is more interesting than most people actually know. She was also met by Stalin, when she was with Ivan Petrovich. I think he was the one (in that storyline) who put her in the training. He said (stalin):"...and if her last name is Romanov, that'll show the world something" *grins. God, please do a closer look on her storyline.
