The Deep (Chase Crawford) opens up to Eagle and Carol about his life of hearing the fish, lobsters, and other sea creatures and how they beg for their lives in restaurants and pet stores. He’s devastated when he hears the news that he wasn’t born that way.
Season 2, Episode 3: Over the Hill With the Swords of a Thousand Men
Watch The Boys on Amazon Prime Video: AAN.SonyPicture...
Superheroes are often as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and sometimes even as revered as gods. But that's when they're using their powers for good. What happens when the heroes go rogue and start abusing their powers? When it's the powerless against the super powerful, the Boys head out on a heroic quest to expose the truth about the Seven and Vought, the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets. Based on the comic book series of the same name.

I remember watching this scene when the season first came out. This was a really big deal, as majority of the supes and their greedy personalities were based on the idea that they were chosen by God to protect over others. This scene completely changed the way supes interacted with society.

It's another reason why I like Gen V so much. Sam and Cate aren't just mad because they were abused and manipulated because of their powers, they're mad because Vought and their parents forced them to get those powers knowing all of the risks and yet still forced them to have it. If Cate was normal then her brother would still be alive. If Sam was normal he would have just been given a a standard mental health treatment for his schizophrenia. They didn't ask for their powers, but they still got punished for having them by the people who forced them to have it.

I mean what he did was disgusting but you do have to realize he is a product of what he was made to be. I mean imagine a kid constantly hearing voices around him begging for their lives and not understanding where it’s coming from. Add on to his physical deformities and it’s honestly no surprise he’d do such a terrible thing to try and feel some sort of power over his own insecurities and demons. Not excusing what he did but I do feel bad for him and what Vought and his parents did to him.

I think this is where the show peaked for me. In one moment, nearly every supe in the show is grounded in reality. Noir crying. Deep's monologue. These characters are usually punching bags for the audience to despise and cringe at, yet as an audience can now do almost nothing but sympathise with them. All of their selfish and atrocious actions that they could previously justify, because of their assumed godhood, are thrown back into their faces. They're not gods, but people. Terrifying, horrible people.

@@dutcharest9731 Its not immature or radical that he’s afraid of losing his job. We can’t look at this in hindsight because Vought worked around compound V being public, but in this moment in the series, V being public was a big deal. So A-Train saw this as the end of his lucrative career and that he would lose everything and go back to being broke. I’ve had the oddly strange experience of growing up without money and turning into a teenager that became more and more privileged (my parents made their money selling cow products in rural India when I was born, went to night school for CompSci, and moved to America and became slowly richer until their combined income became 500k by the time I graduated college). So I have years of my life helping make cow dung pies, and I have years of my life learning biochem at a top US university. A-Train is full of shit. There’s plenty of examples of poor people realizing it’s more than the money (Diogenes, Thomas Sankara, MLK), and there’s plenty of rich people that made themselves poor by helping others (Gandhi, Siddhartha Gautama, several billionaires that have left all their money in their will to charities). A-train’s brother is a perfect example. They both grew up in the same situation, but his brother refused to work for Vough and instead started coaching at a local, impoverished high school, when he became a murderous celebrity. Would A-train tell his brother that “he doesn’t understand cause he grew up with money”?
