A man with no powers who can stand up against Homelander and yet teach him important lessons about life , he is probably the father that homelander never had
@Nicholas_Chen_11 ай бұрын
A very toxic father-son relationship but yes, he is essentially the only real father figure Homelander ever had. Homelander always craved for a family but all he really had is the corporation that is Vought.
@q9414111 ай бұрын
@@Nicholas_Chen_ Yeah, pretty much every sort of “active” parental figure Homelander’s had in his life has been a toxic piece of shit. Their particular brands of raising and nurturing him was practically a recipe for how to make a mentally broken serial killer: There’s Vogelbaum of course as the head scientist responsible for molding Homelander into an ideal Vought product through isolation from society and inhumane experiments, and who only really started to feel any sort of guilt for the living hell and torture he put Homelander once he was old, retired, filthy rich, and bored with his life. And then there was Stillwell, whose relationship with Homelander as both his mother figure and lover was particularly disgusting. Especially since, as was heavily implied in the canon final episode of The Boys: Diabolical, their “romance” didn’t start off as consensual on Homelander’s part and likely began when he was underage. I kinda wish the main series would’ve placed greater emphasis on that fucked up part of their whole dynamic. In hindsight, Homelander killing her in the season 1 finale is probably the only action of his that we can actually side with him on. He probably had A LOT of subconscious resentment toward her built up over the years, and him being violated like that gives strong context to his own issues with respecting others’ consent. And, even though he wasn’t as “active” of a parental figure as Vogelbaum and Stillwell were, Edgar was similarly toxic toward Homelander, given that he was responsible for Homelander’s only known biological family member being shipped off to Russia and pretty much ensuring that Homelander would be utterly alone in his life. And, as badass as the scenes of Edgar standing up to and berating Homelander with absolutely no fear are, there’s an additional bit of twisted reasoning behind his lack of fear, besides his thinking of Supes in general as mere products of Vought. Edgar likely oversaw and bore witness to a lot of Homelander’s horrific treatment as a child and will only ever see him as the scared, depressed child locked in a cage whose only purpose in life was to serve as Vought’s tool.

It’s kinda like Batman and the Justice League or Iron Man in the Avengers. The real power is the power of wealth, respect and influence, which is even more impressive. I’d actually put Black Panther in this category as he is a literal KING and just commands respect, but he has powers.
@Xylarxcode7 ай бұрын
Someone hasn't been paying attention to Edgar's speech to Starlight. Real power isn't super strength or laser eyes or supersonic flight or anything else the supes can do. Real power comes from influence, respect and an ability to not only hold onto that, but to make it grow and prosper by making smart moves that benefit you in the long term. Real power is getting the masses to like you, buy your products and install your brand into their homes and hearts, so they keep coming back for more. A man in a suit at the top of a powerful company can do a lot more damage than Homelander can ever do with his powers.
