Ghost Mick got him to get up, but like every Rocky movie before, Adrian got Rocky to win. Granted he was doing good and holding his own, but the second Adrian and Robert showed up and Adrian called his name for what we don't know would be the last time she ever did that, that's when Rocky started going for the knock out.

Tommy only gained a brief upper hand and beat Rocky down temporarily jumping Rocky from behind. Like a coward. Tommy was no coward or weak but not shit to a pro street fighter, ex-mob leg breaker and true former professional heavyweight boxing champion like Rocky. And lost still after Rocky got up. The interesting thing about this street fight is that it shows that, as powerful as he was, Tommy was not on the same level as Rocky's other rivals. Against Apollo, Clubber, and Drago, Rocky was in a struggle for survival. Those other fights, you could tell there was no way Rocky would win if it came down to a judge's decision. He would have to have the knockout. But here, against Tommy...when Rocky faced him, and Tommy had his full attention...Rocky took him down with relative ease. It was only after Tommy jumped him from behind...basically the equivalent of a mugging, something that he couldn't have done in the ring...that Tommy gained the advantage. In the ring, Rocky would have been clearly better than Tommy...in a street fight, it was closer, but Rocky is still champ..

The Rocky movies built an amazing character with a no lose attitude, a no quit spirit, he was willing to die to win the fight. Rocky IV (4) he flew to Russia to take on the invincible Siberian Express, Ivan Drago in a time of the cold war when the USSR was still powerful. I've talked to alot of people that say they did not like Rocky 5. I thought this film was fantastic! Sure, it didn't live up to the action film that Rocky 4 was, and was a little slower, but the story was great! Rocky was forced to come back down to earth and go back to his roots and teach his son how to survive the street life that he himself had to live in the past, at the same time, carry on Mickey's legacy and teach a new fighter the politics of the business and what to be cautious of and when to recognize a scam, while protecting him at the same time. I don't know why people don't like this film, but it was fantastic as far a I'm concerned
@tgriffin3059 Жыл бұрын
I liked it. I just liked the first 4 Rocky movies MUCH better. But Stallone does some good things here. I DO wish he had remained with a musical score that was more in keeping with the tone of the previous films. The urban style of music didn't really feel like a Rocky movie. But the cast-as always-was outstanding. Stallone, Shire, Young...they are all perfect at their roles. By any other standard, this is a good movie. Like I said...I just like the others better.
@nascarfanatic2425 Жыл бұрын
I think most of the outrage with this movie is mostly comparing to the first 4. There just seems to be a lot of inconsistency with characters and motivations in the movie, in my eyes. The biggest issue I had was with Duke. Like, I get he wanted Rocky to fight because that was a big money-maker for him, but considering it looked like he was going to make just as much off of Tommy teamed up with Rocky to take on Union Cane. It seemed like they were trying way too hard to make Duke-- and by extension, Tommy-- the villain of the movie. If this was its own movie, I would be much more forgiving of it, and probably even like it, and maybe that's why a lot of people like it. Being it's a Rocky movie though is ultimately why I was disappointed. And no, Rocky retiring wasn't a problem. It was understandable. Drago practically destroyed his brain. But let me put it this way: Creed IMO is what this movie should've been. That all being said, this movie is Oscar-worthy compared to a lot of recent crap that has been coming out; especially from Disney.

Agreed. And this movie as a whole isn’t half bad. It’s just not as good as the others and there’s some legit silliness. I mean, i never felt Tommy was much of a threat to Rocky if Rocky had gone through with the legitimate fight. The guy beat Ivan freaking Drago for crying out loud! The satisfaction in this fight is not so much about him overcoming the odds, but more along the lines of a delivering a well deserved beat down.
@williefaulker Жыл бұрын
@@abehambino yeah, this movie lost some slight credibility in the beginning because of the writing. This Rocky old middle aged, brain damaged, untrained and far past his prime still mopped the floor with Tommy in a bare knuckle street fight despite Tommy gaining the upper hand in the first half of the fight only by sucker punching Rocky from behind after Rocky floored Tommy easily head on. Yes, Rocky in his prime would've obliterated Tommy Gunn in seconds fighting dirty regardless. Tommy was very strong, resilient and a very skilled, capable boxer and a fairly good, experienced street brawler from the streets of Oklahoma but easy work to a pro street fighter like Rocky or all of Rocky's past opponents. (Ivan Drago, Clubber Lang, Apollo Creed in his prime or long past his prime.)
