I've played guitar for 35 years and still absolutely love listening to a good guitarist, Andy Rourke is very talented and underrated. The UK has produced some amazing bass guitarists but for me Andy isn't like other bass players he effortlessly makes the bass sound as important as the lead guitar and his skill in complimenting and enhancing the lead guitar is quite special. Nowhere fast, meat is murder, this charming man incredible bass lines. It's a shame his are not being taken advantage of by another band because he can hold his own with pretty much any of them.
@GC-xz7vh2 жыл бұрын
Marr claims he wrote the bass parts )in his biog).
@lifelongred70562 жыл бұрын
@@GC-xz7vh I did read somewhere that Johnny insisted on Andy tuning the bass guitar a certain way but I'm not sure Johnny wrote the bass parts. A couple of people have said Johnny, Andy and Mike were close especially in the studio,I may be wrong but I think I read the three of them would work together on the music and morrissey just came to the studio to lay down the vocals then leave again. The inclusion of Craig Gannon in the band was interesting but he quickly came and went which is a shame because I think with him onboard Johnny would have had more freedom to experiment with the smiths sound,I also read somewhere Guy Pratt was close to joining the Smiths he to is an incredible bass player but he went off to to tour with Pink Floyd. You have to hand it to the Smiths in many ways because they arrived in a time where we had new romantics, synthesizer bands and punk hadn't been gone for long plus the invasion of hip hop and break dance music from America, yet still the Smiths seemed to explode on to the scene instantly with a fresh sound. 80s Manchester was incredible for music as was Liverpool, the 80s in Manchester spawned new fashion trends, new music,amazing night life and a generation of talent I believe were unparalleled by any other decade of music. Music today seems like bands have run out of ideas and have no real stage presence, not all obviously because there is some incredible talent about but in my opinion for a band to stand out they have to sound good live as well as in the studio.
@GC-xz7vh2 жыл бұрын
@@lifelongred7056 agree. Marr and Morrissey claimed they ‘wrote’ everything, particularly when the other Smiths took them to court. But anyone who’s been in a band with a real drummer and a bassist knows it ain’t really like that!
@lifelongred70562 жыл бұрын
@@GC-xz7vh if I was a famous musician which im not I would insist all band members have equal pay, equal say no back biting that way or ego like morrissey. I remember an early interview where morrissey when asked about Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce said they are very capable musicians which at the time struck me as being odd, it was as if he was saying we got the best of what's available and we are stuck with them. Morrissey would be happier if he got everything and the other three nothing. Devious overrated plagarist with a big nose.

This was played at their last concert ever but their last official song they played was Hand In Glove
It’s not: at just after 0:49, you’ll see a cut in the video. The only way that could happen, and have a continuous audio (with no cuts), is if there are 2 cameras. In this case, there’s only 1 camera. So this audio doesn’t belong to this video. What probably happened: The Smiths released this audio, and someone found a video, and attached it to this. If not for that cut, you’d never tell.
