Thanks for a great overview on this pack , the way u did it is the way it should be done , SWD should be proud of this video

david sawmandave thanks. I appreciate the kind words. SWD makes a great pack. I have been very happy with it. My husband did an overview on his as well. You can find that video on our channel. His is a little newer than mine and has some different features.

Thanks again , I want one as well , same.pack like yours with all the bells and whistles, I have gone round and round with all the pack makers , and this one seems to make good sense, did u 2 eventually seam seal them , that's the only thing kind da hanging me up , I am.just a weekender and was wondering how it stands up to a good rain shower
@HusbandWifeOutdoorLife5 жыл бұрын
david sawmandave never seem sealed it. It’s been through a lot of rain now. Never leaked. I do use a nyloflume bag to line it just in case.

Let me know if you have any questions about the swd. I still use it and still love it. My husband bought one for himself too. His overview is on the channel as well if you need a look at a newer version of the same pack.

Really digging that top pocket you added. I could see myself opening it, putting my keys and wallet in there and never opening it again for piece of mind. Really enjoy that Y strap on the top. Way more secure for gear than a single strap. Very nice pack. The colors look great. Looking forward to seeing it on upcoming trips.
@HusbandWifeOutdoorLife6 жыл бұрын
Yup, that’s exactly why I added the top pocket. Love it so far. I think a single strap would hold everything inside just fine but if you wanted to strap a bear can or something to the top the y strap would be better. So far I’ve not really used it to strap anything down. I had plenty of space on the inside + mesh for it all.

My wife's pack is 4 years old and she is in need for a new one. I have looked into the Superior Wilderness packs and it's on our list of possible choices.

From a women’s perspective the pack was very comfy. If she’s a medium torso/medium belt she is welcome to try mine on. I loved the ability to customize.

Yesss! Thank you for doing this first impressions video. Very helpful. Are you happy with the size capacity? Too big or just right. Any changes you would make hindsight. I too backpack mostly in Michigan, base weight is currently around 12 lb. Not sure if 50 liters might be too big. Thanks so very much for taking time to share this info👏👏👏
@HusbandWifeOutdoorLife6 жыл бұрын
My base-weight is around 9.5lbs and I am happy with the size. I went larger because I know I can cinch it down to a smaller pack if needed (and remove the frame if I want). For me the weight penalty of going larger wasn't that big of a deal. I will need the capacity for a 10d/9n trip coming up. I am happy you saw the video, I believe you were the subscriber that asked for the overview! As far as changes, at this point I don't think I would change anything, but I haven't used it enough to tell for sure. I did add the zipper pulls and would suggest that 100%. As far as I know SWD doesn't offer them, but if you email them I bet they would try to accommodate. They take a lot of customization requests as long as they are not outrageous.
@renaecummings80686 жыл бұрын
BTW yes that was me that requested the video. Now if I could only get a Zpacks Triplex for me and my hubby, I too could hit that below 10 lb base weight 😉 Happy hiking, keep the videos coming 👍
@HusbandWifeOutdoorLife6 жыл бұрын
We could be tent twins. Haha. Good luck with that baseweight. Took me a while to get mine below 10. I’m glad you requested the video. Seems like it was helpful to at least a few people.

I noticed in an Isle Royale video that you were using a pack cover. I thought the xpac was waterproof (though seams aren't sealed on the pack). What kind of water do you see inside the pack without a rain cover that caused you to use one? I'm about to buy this pack. :)
@HusbandWifeOutdoorLife5 жыл бұрын
bonza4clarinet I haven’t had it in a downpour without the cover. But in light to mild rain I haven’t had any water get in. The reason I used the cover in IR was because I had stuff in the mesh outer pocket that I didn’t want wet (easy access camera gear and such).

GeezerGamez This company caught my attention. 1. Made in America 2. Mom and Pop shop 3. Ultralight Packs as light as 16 oz. 4. Waterproof pack (seal your seams) 5. Customization on packs 6. Owners hiked the PCT with their own packs for research and improvements 7. They work with you thru the entire process 8. Less than half the price of other ultralight packs! 9. More info on packs than any other website I have found I hope they start to design their own tents too!

Do you use a pack liner for this one?
@HusbandWifeOutdoorLife6 жыл бұрын
I put a trash compactor bag inside for my trips. Nothing fancy. I stopped using stuff sacks for my quilt and such. It all just goes in the trash bag if it needs to be waterproof 100%.
