This house was one of the most difficult houses by Lautner to understand: a very complex lay out, that was changed many times over the years, and only a limited amount of photos available. It took me 1,5 years to make this video. But all the positive comments and heartwarming reactions made it worth all the trouble and hardships that it was to make the video. Indeed a video always provides a better overview of a house than images in a book can do. That's why I started this channel: there was so little information available a bout the houses by Lautner... more videos will come up soon. Next video is about the Zimmerman house by Lautner.

Has anyone else been watching the fire coverage from LA? It looks as if the Segel house was very close to the western edge of the Palisades fire. I believe it survived - I tried to compare the fire map and news helicopter footage with Google Maps. On a similar note, the Eames foundation, and its 4 Case Study houses (Eames, Entenza, Bailey and West, all reviewed on this channel) were on the eastern edge of the fire but I believe also survived. But all of them will probably need cleaning for smoke damage.

oh wow was this just an outstanding video!! what amazing photos! you must really put your all and some into making these videos. nobody could see how the house is laid out or know all of the stunning features Mr. Lautner included in his design. ive been taken back at how little photos and real descriptions there are of what i call the pch trio. thanks to your videos i have a clear idea a visual ques from this and the beyer video. im such a fan and your videos are the only way i have to really understand how amazing his work was and definately still is. sadly i think the third of my trio will go on with very little access to it. it being the Levy house but i also understand that having that house and being involved with its design has got to be such a personal and private gift so i am on sad that its not mine. at some point it will become open for other to see but i will admire it as well as this and beyer from a far only to now but so much more aware of the design and history of them thanks to your tremendous effort and dedication. we all owe a great deal for without you we wouldnt be able to appreciate his work nearly as much and that is a great gift you have given. thats a pretty great legacy for you to have. these videos are to only thing to come close to providing an overall idea of what these homes are. a gift from you both. a sincere thanks to you sir. have blessed end of year times. cheers

And there was hardly no information available. So I started my own research and now I share the information about the houses with people who were as curious as I once was. - Some houses are hardly photographed at all. It's a dream of me to make a video about the Levy House (aka Concrete Castle/ Pacific Coast House) but only a few photos do exist, so it will be near impossible to make a video about that home. But I hope I will succeed in doing so, some day. - New video will come up soon. Next video will be about the Zimmerman House. Best wishes and have a merry Christmass!
@gregoryfranks734718 күн бұрын
@SuperJobbel I am grateful that you started this channel. You're also right that there is some houses that are very very very very very very still unknown believe your house being one of them. But I do understand not wanting people to be able to see every little thing inside of the house. John Martin was such a magnetic figure and apparently that house was like giving birth while they were designing it and it's probably very special to them and they want to have a private so it's you know more special and it's their little secret from the best architect that's ever lived. Your videos are so impressive because to have the information that you have and to have researched it and found all of that is just as amazing it's obviously hard work and you must be extremely dedicated as well as having just a tremendous passion for John Lautner's work I've watched most of your videos many times each I would have to say the marbrisa is my favorite and that's such a great video I would have never realized how the house was laid out without watching your video. I'm also a huge concannon fan and was very sad when I found out that Mr Goldstein knowingly tore it down to put a silly dance club at the most famous John Warner house. My opinion is that's very disrespectful but he did have the blessing of John Walter so that's him in my opinion doesn't mean anything to anybody but I was honestly just offended. I think if you have a significant property or something significant in history that you should honor it and make sure you don't do anything that doesn't fall in line with the history and the respect that the house deserves. And to tear down one to make another bigger I don't think is right especially that house because it was just such a unique and beautiful house. The young lady that rented it for his last several years had a video that I have searched over and over and over and cannot find I sold it a couple years ago and she walked through the house and showed all of the the design of the house and it was a great video but for some reason I cannot find it. And I'm very disappointed because that was the only real footage captured in that house with a video camera your video is the most in-depth video about that house that's ever been. I have a tremendous amount of respect for you and the work that you put in to do these videos so accurately which I can't seem to find so I truly appreciate it and I truly enjoy it. Cheers

Interesting house, although I think it is by far not his best house. The angled lay-out in combination with the concept of curves in construction and detail lead to many difficult encounters, which are impossible to 'solve'.
@SuperJobbel20 күн бұрын
Thanks for your interesting comment. I think however that it's one of his best designs: the many curves and corners make a large house feel very intimate and homelike: like sheltering in a cave, yet still the magnificent view over the ocean is present everywhere. The complex construction and lay out make the exciting and unusual. But I understand it's not the most practical house. Some people prefer the ''international style'' with straight lines, transparancy and symmetry. This style is cheaper and more practical. I also like that style: but I'm a real lover of organic architecture .

Lautner was and is a genius. This house is beautiful in many ways but fall short in sensitivity to surroundings (a pond by the sea?), use of material, and attain ability of most of us humans. His earlier work was much more accessible. Why does rich clients warp one’s sense of ideal? Certainly he had to make a living but he seems to have abandoned the aspects of his design that made him so creative AND build able by normal human beings. This, for me, is the great disappointment with Lautner.

This is an absolutely beautiful design, just brilliant. I love organic architecture's integration of natural elements and shapes, and this is one of the best. Thankyou for so competently explaining the layout, design features and changes over time. Really incredible work to make such a complicated design so easy to understand. And yes, I prefer the garden too (btw: I feel the pool would have been better if it was set into the floor at the very least; and preferably instead of a lap pool, the pool curved to mirror the original outer walls, with the pool building leaving a metre or so strip on the outside for a garden of dense tall vegetation, which the pool room looked to through large windows. If they had to have a lap pool, it would have been better to put it on the edge of the property and keep as much garden as possible between the pool and the original building).

Thanks for your reaction. Yes, I agree a curving pool in the ground was better. And the garden had to be kept in place someway. Still it the pool now looks okay. It's indeed a brilliant design. Great that you liked the video, it was a lot of work to figure out everthing and make such a complex design easy to understand to the audience.

Fabulous and intricate design. The round and curving spaces with varying roof levels truly allow the natural environment to shine. Not terribly fond of the 1986 guest room addition: it looks cold, clinical and barren. Your presentation, as usual, is wonderful, calm, informative and thoughtful. On its own (and speaking as a swimmer), I think the swimming pool is divine. It is clearly intended for someone who swims and not as a wading pool. As it is situated within the property, I do not like it. The ponds were more aesthetically pleasing and in Malibu a pool belongs outside!

Thank you that you call the video wonderful, calm informative and thoughtful. That really stimulates me to make more videos. Yes, the pool is indeed intended for someone who swims on a daily base, also the windows of the pool can be lowered so you can swim in the open air. It's truly divine; but still the prefer guesthouse looked better. If would have owned this house, I would kept the guesthouse in place, and used the guesthouse as an art studio.
